  1. No good I'd say, as you need the throttle position sensor. You wont have one on your 16v engine.
  2. I'm using a 2e throttle body on my 20v inlet.
  3. More importantly, it's a Mk2 Golf dash!!

    Gearbox Rebuild

Didn't think you'd have much problem slipping it in, Tom
  5. I don't know about grotesque, but it does look like a Aston Martin on stilts! not quite sure what the point of it is? Maybe it is the new Chelsea Chariot?? Still it'll sell, that's for sure. :?
  6. Looks pretty good dude, I'm sure it'll be a minter when you've finshed with it, going on your previous work 8) 8)
  7. Good work. I can hear the horses galloping your way! 8)
  8. Looking good dude, making some healthy progress there! Is that Turbo-technics type setup?

    Gearbox Rebuild

If you get another box, I'd be interested in your knackered one. I fancy doing a 2.0l 16v box with a VR final drive.... :study:
  10. Indeed it isn't. The problem I've got is I'm only going on what the American's do with the ABA (IIRC) block that apparently is the same as the 2e. They just drop the 16v head straight on, so it begs the question of wether the ABA and 2e are indeed the same, and if so how do they over come the valve/piston issue?
  11. Well, I'm using a 9a head (pretty much the same apart from the casting seems a little different in the port area) and the inlet valves are indeed angled. I did ask this question in my Members Gallery thread. There are no reliefs cut out of the 2e pistons, so was unsure if I was going to end up with an 'interferance' engine? The 2e pistons are dished, but the crossection looks like this
  12. Excellent...even more good news.... :D
  13. What type of valve dude? Stepper motor?
  14. Had a good chat with a collegue from work and he has suggested that I completely rewire the whole front end of the car. It makes perfect sense to me as I will have to do the wiring loom for the squirt anyway and the existing wiring is nearly 15 years old and likely to be a bit buggered anyway. So I'm going to make use of the Rally spec wiring we have at work and do a proper job!!
  15. Cheers David, looks like I'll stick with the standard 2.0l one I have for now, and invest in a decent clutch. Question 3: Driveshafts....Are the 2.0l 16v ones up to the job? Are the G60 ones different/better?
  16. re question 1, etka has 053 103 157 A oil spray jets listed agains 2e,abf,aep and ady engine codes. Game on mate. How lucky is that! More by luck than design me thinks! Need to get this done so I can take you and Toad out in it next ED38 and make you fill your pants like you did in junkies G
  17. 'Bout bloody time dude.....lookin good :afro:
  18. Tom, this is the 2e piston.... This is the 9a piston.... So we have to change the crank pulley, intermediate shaft, oil pump, dizzy block-off plate. Here is a piccie of the two intermediate shafts. They are pretty much identical apart from where the pulley mounts.... Intermediate shaft bearing shell a lot more healthy looking that the 9a one :D The crank pulley has to be changed along with the intermediate shaft to allow the 16v head and cam pulley to work. Here is the 2e one... And here is the 9a one, note the 9a one is wider... Two oil pumps are different. 9a one is at the front... Also removed the carbon canister and some of the wiring not needed and discovered this.... Clearly there has bee a problem with shorting out and funnily enough it is the wiring for the headlights! A lot of the wires underneath that manky insulation tape, the insulation has completely disintegrated!
  19. Yeah they are, but around the circumference of the piston they are quite raised. Check the pic above ^^^^
  20. I'm not too sure about the TDC between the two, I'm pretty sure they both come up to the 'deck' of the block. Is the 2e head flat, Tom? As far as the design of the 4-pot blocks, the two I've got seem pretty solid.
  21. I have two questions: 1) Does the 2e block have oil squirters onto the bottom of the pistons? How do I recognise them if I take the pistons out? 2) What gearbox would best suit the 16v turbo characteristics? Standard 9a any good? Or would it need to be stronger? G60/VR boxes? Or would a 6 speed out of a mk4 turbo be better suited?
  22. I offered the 16v head up to the 2e block and drops on, no problem the two locator pins are even in the right place!. The only thing I need to check is; the 2e pistons don't have any cutouts to clear the inlet valves. Are the valves likely to hit the pistons?
  23. Just send an email to Bill and ask him how much dude...here is his email, he mostly answers his emails in the evening... bill @ shurvinton.fsworld.co.uk
  24. Really good to chat to you at ED38 Dave, really impressed with the turbo'd VR and your efforts with the standard ECU. Its actually made me think about using the Megasquirt and possibly developing it further, once I've got it up and running, with a better microprocessor.
  25. Made a little more progress tonight..... Engine number two.....stripped block down, just need to get the pulleys off, but leaving them to soak in WD40 over night.. Bores look in good nick too :D Pretty sure you can still see the honing marks Hmmm loads of 2e parts.... And loads of 9a parts....
