  1. Picked it up AGAIN today - the small patch turned out to be just the surface of the laquer, the guy has polished it out a treat. Although he did say Moonlight Blue Pearl was a bit of a nightmare to paint, considering he was only doing select panels and not the whole car :)
  2. Best of luck to you. If I get the time I might right the Citizen's Advice Bureau and see what they've got to say about it. Did you find out about uninsured loss recover/legal cover through Elephant? Just wondering if you can speak to them, it would certainly be amusing to use it to file a claim against Elephant themselves... :)
  3. Yeah, but that's got nothing to do with my point - my point being that you've still got a year's worth of insurance paid for, so it SHOULD still be valid to transfer to another car. It's an ANNUAL insurance policy, not a "one claim" policy, do you see what I mean? The remainder of the policy should be suspended rather than cancelled. That's what I mean about getting some legal advice, even if it's just a free call to the Citizen's Advice Bureau. Definitely worth checking out.
  4. I like the sounds of these 'no lag' chips, but I'm not sure I want to go to the extent of a smaller pulley. Are they still beneficial without the pulley, or are they mapped only to suit pulley'ed cars? Sorry if this is a stupid question but it's not something I've ever read up on before, hence I don't really understand the issues... Cheers :)
  5. I can't believe they can just CANCEL the policy because they've made a payout - you've paid for a year's insurance. Insurance means exactly that - it doesn't mean they can just cut their losses when they feel like it! I see where you're coming from with the car - if you're leaving the country anyway then this is the least hassle. But I would be getting legal advice on the insurance situation, that just sounds wrong. Of course, if you're leaving the country in the next month (say) it doesn't really make any difference - to answer another question no, if you've made a claim you can't cancel the policy and recoup a pro-rated portion of the premium. But at the same time I don't think THEY can cancel it without compensating you either - after all, your 12 month policy is basically a 12-month contract. Would be interested to know the upshot of this...as it affects us ALL...
  6. Jim, I think it was you actually, thinking about it! Cheers for the suggestions. I've got Wonder Wheels, but it's frankly a pain in the rear when it comes to cleaning those BBS. Something like that foam stuff sounds like a great idea...or do you still need to get on your hands and knees and get a toothbrush on the wheels? :)
  7. Someone mentioned to me recently there's a new alloy cleaner out on the market that shifts brake dust really quickly. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called...! To make matters worse, I can't remember who mentioned it... I *think* they said it was a foam. Anyone got any recommendations?
  8. And here it is afer a bit of Paintshop tomfoolery ;)
  9. AFAIK (or what I was told anyway!) if the lambda senser is inoperative the car goes into 'limp home' mode. I had this on mine once - not exactly 'limping', just lost a lot of power. Very flat. Once it was repaired it was like a different car :)
  10. I'm sure there are rules about use of bad language on here, which is a shame as it prohibits be from telling you what a ****ing little **** that ****er is, and how he deserves a ****ing good shoeing with a huge great pair of hobnail boots. Gutted for you. I just hope they catch the little turd. It's also a real shame that your insurance company have decided to write it off - was that after getting quotations for repair or just one of those bean-counters with a clipboard from the insurance company giving it the once-over? That rear panel would beat out, stick a new (or second-hand) door on and Bob's your uncle. Is there no way of negotiating with them a way of reducing the cost of repairs to the ceiling they set on it being worth repairing? Also, do you have uninsured loss recovery? With regards claims - yeah, it'll go down against you, but with the witnesses the silver lining is that it will be a 'no fault' claim. Keep us posted - I want to know if the coppers manage to track him down. There can't be THAT many white G-reg Toyota Corrollas with that number in the plate - especially ones with recent accident damage...
  11. Yeah, you could do the prep if you want to keep costs down. I just had mine sorted out, he didn't spray all the panels (because they didn't all need it), but to get the paint match spot-on he took the paint code AND sent the fuel filler door off to get an exact match. Looks spot-on to me :)
  12. I'll reserve judgement until the door's done properly - to be honest, I was a bit cheesed off that I went to pick it up and found that. To my mind, he should have noticed it and done it already. Having said that, he didn't kick up any fuss about doing it again, and did say that the reaction must have occurred recently as he'd inspected it after painting it and it was all OK. He did also say to examine the rest of the car just in case there were any other reactions and he'd sort them out too, so he seems OK. I probably WOULD recommend him now, but I'll wait until it's all done to my satisfaction :) As for the roof gutter trim, I trimmed mine down as other people have done and will try that first. James Renshaw did the same on his, and I didn't even notice the difference until he pointed it out! Yep, Moonlight Blue Pearl Cheers David - and I agree, it's probably my favourite colour as well - I love the way it changes depending on the light and the angle. It's almost like a very subtle flip - most people think it's black, but catch the light right and it's a vivid Aqua Blue colour. Very nice :) I DO love Mystic Blue as well too...:)
  13. Well, here we go - picked it up yesterday, and it's looking nice and tidy now! I haven't fitted the side rubbing strips yet - not sure whether to or not, I prefer the look without them BUT I want the sides to have SOME protection, and I also want the car 100% standard (apart from the clear repeaters ;) ) The roof strips aren't back on yet either, but I've just picked up some trim tape to put them back on (I was a bit concerned they might fly off at speed otherwise). There IS one small blemish I found on the passenger door where it looks like the paint has reacted - a very, very small patch of 'orange-peeling', smaller than a 1p coin. It's going back in on Thursday to have that door repainted (if a job's getting done - and being paid for - it's getting done right!) Anyway, here it is for now - yes, the wheels need a clean, but I've not had time just yet..! Looking at 'Corrado1.jpg' - just had to take that shot, the sun was at the right angle to bring out the blue mix in the paint. It looks like Aqua Blue Pearl in that shot, but it's not :) Now I've just got to decide whether to sell or keep...it looks so good now I'm tempted to keep, but I'm also tempted by CliveyP's VR6. Decisions, decisions...I guess if the right offer were to land in my lap, I'd be paying CliveyP a visit...:)

    nice lights

    The mind boggles ;)
  15. Hmmmm....I've not driven much that's been worth writing home about to be honest, probably the best was a TT 225, but I preferred driving my mate's Corrado VR6 truth be told.
  16. Me neither :) Next time we meet up at the Saxon Mill I won't have to be ashamed of the only Corrado with the scratches and bodywork covered with masking tape ;) But then...I think I'm going to want to re-furb the wheels. It's never-ending...!
  17. That's it, the car's in for its bodywork. Popped round today to have a look and the guy has been steaming ahead with things! The scrape in the passenger door/rear quarter has been tapped out and just required a skim of filler to smooth it out :) The rear bumper is now lovely and smooth, all prepped for paint. The nick in the front panel has been beaten out and smoothed nicely. The lower half of the front panel was being painted as I was there - he took the front bumper off for prep and found that apparently they're powder-coated (I didn't know that!) and over the course of its life the powder coating has become loose - so he took all that off and is sorting that too. Looking good so far, can't wait to see it finished. Off to the US with work tomorrow morning, back a week later and it should be ready for me. Woohoo! :) Will finally post some piccies in the Members Gallery when I get it back, along with some "before" pictures...
  18. Get them in the classroom, lock the doors and open the gas taps :)
  19. Must admit I've never been a big Pink Floyd fan. I tried...although maybe it was something to do with my mates from Uni just boring the fecking arse off me about them every time 'music' came up as a topic of conversation :)

  21. So if you're starting with a G60 in the first place...just the rebuilt charger, rebuilt 16V engine and a chip? Would you get more power and/or torque out of a 2.0 16V, or are there disadvantages with that engine? Sorry if these are all stupid questions, but it's been on my mind for some time. If I don't sell up and go the VR6 route, then my currently standard G60 will be seeing some non-standard parts...;)
  22. So...if I had a Corrado G60 (which I do!) would it be relatively straightforward to swap out the 1.8 8V and sling in a 2.0 16V from the later cars (after reducing the CR)? I can imagine a chip would be required, but what else?
  23. 35 :( 17: Golf Mk1 1500 GLS 23: Golf Mk1 1800 GTI 29: Corrado G60 35: ? (a VR6 has to be on the cards to keep the pattern going!) Not bad, 18 years of motoring and only 3 cars :)
  24. I had this in my Mk1 GTI driving through a sh*t part of Leicester - almighty bang right by my face, saw some kids scarpering, drove round but they'd gone. They'd thrown something large (half a brick I reckon) at my car, it hit the top part of the door frame (and possibly the window too, although it was the door that was dented). If it had been an inch or so lower it would have come through the window and hit me in the face... Bunch of little "ladies-bits"...a good shoeing just isn't enough...
