  1. Seems to be running better today as last night my boyfriend turned the timing back a bit but the CO hasnt been touched yet. When idling it does sound lumpy through the exhaust but isnt stuttering like it was and definetely more power in it today. It has a full stainless exhaust which was fitted a few year ago but I didnt notice any change in the speed the revs dropped from the standard exhaust system. Maybe I'm being too fussy though over the revs dropping thing as I'm always comparing it to my MK11 Golf Gti I had where the revs dropped really fast , but maybe in comparison the Corrado's are just like that? Thanks for your help
  2. Hi Guys, Just had the head changed on my 16v C and it is not running right at all. I am guessing that the timing and CO will need to be adjusted and this should hopefully sort out the stuttering when I take my foot off the accelerator? I did try to find a decent garage to get the timing and CO set and some of the questions I got were....."Are you sure you can adjust the CO on these cars?" !!!!!...and "The car might not be running right cause the timing belt has jumped a tooth"...lol. I am always nervous at the best of times letting anyone work on the car. Anyway, I think I have found a place to take the car to at the weekend. The other problem is however that the revs are taking ages to drop. It has been like this since I got the car 7yr ago (and only now I show an interest in solving this!!!). Is this worse though due to the timing etc needing set, or could it be something else? Julie
  3. Cars fixed....was the starter after all!! Thanks guys :D
  4. He gave it a try with the clutch down and said that it didnt have an effect on it ...
  5. Hi Roger, The battery was taken from my car just to test the Golf and is only a few months old. The starter was a reconditioned one but my boyfriend suspects that the solenoid is to blame. All the terminal connections to and from the battery have been checked cleaned and seem to be ok. The lights in the dash die when attempting to start, sounded at first to be the timing. Timing was checked, top and bottom pulley and gearbox timing marks all line up, distributor pointing to number 1 lead. When all spark plugs removed and put back into HT leads, when cranking all plugs firing, engine turns freely. (None of this makes much sense to me...as its my boyfriends description over the phone lol) From what you and the others have said though my feeling is with the starter motor but it will be tomorrow now before we can get a new one so fingers crossed. Thanks for your help and advice Julie
  6. This is the first there has been any probs since fitting the new starter motor, and the earth strap has also been checked and is ok! lol. Cars can be very annoying at times! Anyway....still sticking with the thought it might be another dodgy starter. Any other suggestions though then please let me know
  7. Thanks for this guys.... The distributor has been checked and cleaned too.....the starter motor however was replaced around 2 months ago, buts that not to say that isnt the problem. Gonna try another starter motor, just incase, and see what happens from there...... Julie
  8. Hi Guys, I am looking for some help to get my boyfriends car running so that I can get my Corrado off road to get the engine sorted. The car in trouble is a mk 11 16v Golf. It was parked in the garage at night and the next morning it just wont start. When turning the key it is trying to start but turning very slowly, then it just floods. The battery is fine, and the starter should be too as it has recently been replaced. Obvious things like plugs, leads etc have also been checked and are fine, Any suggestions?? Julie
  9. My car is lowered 60mm all round with Raceland adjustable suspension. I have tried various different springs but have found the Raceland stuff to be he best so far, and for the price you pay for the full suspension I think its worth it rather than just buying springs  Julie
  10. Had an idea you were gonna say it was them! I know where they are, been in before so I will definetely drop in and see them again ....they are one of the few garages I've found who know what they are doing! Thanks Julie
  11. Yeah I have the same problem too! Got a custom exhaust fitted about 2yr ago. For the first year it was fine, but now I need to keep replacing the rubbers to keep it from hitting the rear axle. A more permanent solution would be great as this is starting to really annoy me now....so would appreciate it if you could give me the contact details Thanks ____________ Julie
  12. Hi Fraser............that would have been mine then!.......and I drove the car all the way home before I even noticed your note on the windscreen (blonde hair moment) lol!! I actually found this site around a year ago but for some reason forgot all about it. Glad you reminded me about it though as I am looking for some car bits and there is good chance of finding them here, so thanks for that, Julie
