...i know this is a corrado forum but its the only forum i use. hope someone can help... got a 2000 2.0gti - looks and drives like a new car - except... twice now i've jumped in and tried to start it - turns over fine but its as if theres no spark - turns fine, full of petrol but nothing at all. if you keep cranking it, after more than 30 secs the dash board "STOP" light comes up with oil pressure light - is this a normal mk4 thing? the bottom end seems fine. the first time it happened checked the timing belt, plug leads etc and found it was very low on oil so topped it up and it started a few minutes later. thought it was some safety feature when it was low on oil to stop it starting. changed the oil and its worked for a week but droe 3-4 miles last night, stopped for 30 mins and then it wouldn't start again. got to go back today to see if it starts or if i need to tow it away. the car is totally mint with full vw history and give no indications of any engine issues. any suggestions???

i reckon a charger or turbo will sort it sharpish....... -
was looking for a corrado 16v or something but got this. Absolute star of a car, full service history, immaculately looked after and so smooth, quiet etc and easily pulls 40mpg tootling to work at 60-70 mph, drives like new - really - !!!! Even if not being careful, pulls 33-35mpg. hasn't even suffered from trolley dinks and is totally straight, 2 door black. it will look superb once polished..... £1800 ;-) anyway - needs a bit more poke (sort of defeats to principle of a sensible daily drive but so what.) any recommendations / good golf forums? also, how do i easily establish the engine code cos i want to fit cruise control......?P7200794 (Small).JPG[/attachment:146nlg9h]2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfP7200796 (Small).JPG[/attachment:146nlg9h]

i did remove everything as the plastic broke - but i have all the parts - anyone got a decent shot of the assembly of all the parts together to check its correct?
-
just chaned all timing gear, flywheel, clutch etc and out all back together but have a problem with the geaer linkage. The linkage and counterweight are very loose and the gear selection very sloppy. It seem correctly put together but its far from good in operation. looked at pic in the wiki but can't see anything incorrectly assembedl. anyone had suc problems or suggestion toe resolve slopy linkage/loose counterweight ?

i don't know how some of you chaps drive but i can get 30 mpg out of a vr on a commute run when driving carefully, 35 easy on a run. hoofing about onviously destroys that but some of the figures quoted here seem really low. even my charged vr with a sh1t map can get 25mpg easy - when driven sensible but at least its got the power for fun when needed or wanted. all in all, i think the vr is a remarkably fuel efficient car for the engine cc and performance it gives.

I bought a complete timing chain kit from Four Seasons Motorsport in the states for £90 delivered. Its all VAG parts too. i don't think a paid much more from VAG parts without the wait
-
strange you should mention that but i ended up with chain bits in the sump, hence the replacement... had done a few more miles than 50k mind and the bolt that chrisvr6nos dropped down the timing chain cover didn't help either :nono:
-
never had any problems with the aparts supplied from http://www.vagparts.com/ and they were a good price, quick UK supply with the mk4 banana and tensioner bolt - highly recommended

i do remapping via obd port - you can then remap altering timing, fuel and air/boost. those boxes are not a good idea as all they do is fool the ecu by altering the signal for air volume to overfuel the car - can cause long term damage, bore washing and black smoke. i can sort you out with a proper map tho ;-)

approx £145.50......

i lik ethe torque of a vr over a revvy 4 - as you say you have to rev the tits off them. i've been in one and found it hard work and like a buzzing sewing machine......vr for a couple of grand at the mo or ctr - a few more grand no doubt?

i am amazed at the extremes of reaction this thread has produced. how i and others really like the A5 but some view it as puke is bizarre to say the least. i am a one for understated looks hence my motor has no bling and the a5 i view as understated elegance. for those that don't like it, do you prefer more bling, in-you-face shouty looks? each to their own, not having a dig but surely the A5 can't be perceived as worthy of a :pukeright: smiley????
-
the one i saw was in white - looks better in the flesh than the pctures, which themselves are nice. can't understand the negatives - think they are rather tasty
-
saw an audi with the R8 style headlights behind me but when it came past, the side profile and rear view weren't what I expected - looked at the boot badge and thought I was mis-reading - A5 - i've obviously not stayed in touch with things as I didn't know about these but now i do and i like - A GREAT DEAL!! to me, this is more like what the new corrado/scirocco should be. i love the subtle curve of the swadge line from the front wing, straight through the door and along the rear quarter. I want, i want, i want.

Any suggestions for a MONSTER to thrash round a field?
H8RRA replied to staffs_til_i_die's topic in General Car Chat
sierra sierra's, cortinas, mk2 escorts, bmws, granada's, scorpios, old cavaliers/manta's. trouble is, most of these rwd cars are now becoming colectable. i wouild have thought the easiest to get would be sierra's and bmw's someone up north got space for a re-surgence in grass tracking???!!!!! -
