    Smoking VR6

spoke to a golf vr'er who rebuilt a head then changed the engine because of smoking probs. Turned out to be the lambdna probe with a dodgy connection, overfuelin, chucking in too much fuel into the cylinders which escaped down the bores, thinned down the oil which then exitted and caused smoking.... think thats what he said anywasy but its worth a check.

  6. broony, vw dealer gave 15% discount - sure it wasn't more than £45. Go to the mill on newcastle road heading into sunderland - i'm at east boldon and thats where i got mine.
  7. most passats don't have the autoclosure and i don't think they go straight on, do they? when this happened to me, i checked out passats and toledos and the levers are dfferent lengths. ended up buying new - good tactic is to go to vw and say you can get cheaper at eurocar parts and they'll give you a decent discount cos they know they're loosing lots of trade to e-c-p. still paid about £40 though
  8. Theory about methanol is interesting. My initial thoughts about using meth/water mix was that this was done to increase the octane/flammability of the charge and not for cooling, which is the whole point in having water injection.
  9. couldn't make the meet but here's another NE corrado'er
  10. the latest craze is white front bumpers then??? :? so is that the n reg one for sale then chris? - which user is that?

  13. believe it or not!!!!! i'm paying £320 fully comp for a VR with Halifax. They give 10% discount over the web and by paying with a halifax account/credit card. How about that for a deal!!!!
  14. I have the same issue - ABS sensor was knackered - either £41 or £60+ - just bought one today.

    Dash swap!

did it in mine and didn't find it too bad to be honest - couldn't detail the steps from memory - the only big issue was two retaining nuts which we didn't trace and found were only accessible from the engine bay but not very easy to spot without instruction. Apart from that didn't find any great issues.....
  16. and me - fromlerly had red s/charged featured in PVW last year - andys car now. Now just got NO2 :D but will possibly be fitting charger and chargecooler :D :D :D Don't worry your not alone - we'll organise a meet some time - i've pm'd you. James has

ANYONE KNOW WHY MY MFA doesn't display outside air temperature??? Nothing displays at all at the last press of the button and just returns to the time???????
  21. Dan, The Vortech is a bit more involved than the Z-charger but is a better and more comprehensive kit altogether, one main difference is that the Vortech uses an oil feed from the engines pump so a 'T'off is needed to deliver the oil feed then you have to drill, peen and tap the sump, the punch and tap are supplied with the kit so there are no mistakes! A re-circ dump valve is incorporated to balance the pressure and not damage the MAF meter which was a problem with the Z kit. The Z kit was good in that it installed with only 5bolts and a belt but was limited in power terms and slipped although the stageII development reduced this. No is the answer but the benefits are far better and the result is more satisfying and reliable! Be a  dig deep and lets get some kits on our cars and make them even more special  (Thanx to Paul letting me use his pc) Regards Chris.
  22. Chris - were you successful fitting the aerial without removing the headliner???
