    Top Gear!

Meh. More cars please as we've just had an episode of c0cking about. I want to see the Level Crossing feature though....
  2. I'd wait a month for the sun to come out, and then sell it with 11 months MOT & all the still new bits. If you just need a cheap hack, get something that you won't care about remotely, on which parts are cheap (eg. Saxo), that has at least 8 months MOT and then flog after 6. Bangernomics works.... The only downside is that you may find that your hand is forced by your hatred of your drive & you come back to something you care about which then costs you money. If you go down the bangernomics road, be stong! Cheers, Tom
  3. MoonlightBlueVR6, I'm guessing it's a VR by your username? :-) In which case I'd say you're about right with the price, espcaially as you've just had the chains etc. done.
  4. Welcome to the forum man, looking nice...
  5. Good work that man! Sounds like a busy day, and it must be slightly worrying to find 10 crack pipes in your car though. Still, according to 1 motoring journalist over here, they always had a reputation of being a dealers car :-) Pics please (but not of the paraphenalia)! Tom
  6. Our pool car is a new shape Focus, and I must say I really like it. Comfortable, handles nicely, and the TDCI engine is a gem. A vast improvement on the Astra we previously had!
  7. Jim, if you haven't changed your tyres yet, try your local scrapper. £20/corner including fitting & balancing for some Pirelli part-worns with 6mm of tread left can't be bad... Having said that, I just had to buy 4 new ones as I boned 2 of my tyres (and kerbed an alloy) while visiting a mate 200 miles away.
  8. I found my 'rados a lot easier to drive than my Mk2 tbh. 1) PAS is, I think standard on all 'rados wheras my Goof has none. 2) The brakes on the 'rados were WAY better. Even now I've upgraded the Golf brakes, they just don't compare. 3) Clutch on the 'rado was lighter, although not by much (now I've fitted a brand new one to the golf :-)). The valvers are no slouch, a standard 2.0l will top out at an indicated 137mph :-) Not as fast as a VR, but not as pricey to fix IF they go wrong.... Good luck & welcome to the forum, Tom
  9. Welcome to the forum & good luck with the restoration!
  10. ziderapple, I'd recommend subscribing as they give you stuff & it works out cheaper. Cracking magazine.
  11. Nope, but have had a stub axle go on the rear.
  12. Good man! Keep us posted & http://www.vwdiesel.net is a good place for research...
  13. Although a long while back, I believe Henny was contemplating putting one together.... chubbybrown, amen to the intercooled turbos! :-)

    HELP!

If it's the fault of the other party entirely, I believe you can take them to the small claims court for the full value of the repair of a cherished vehicle (if under £5K), even if the insurance co. is unwilling to pay out. Check the Daily Telegraph Motoring section under Honest John for details. Good luck with it, and it may work out cheaper to get a partial payout, buy it back & have the work done yourself, so while the crash is bad news, it may work out OK. Cheers, Tom
  15. I've always bought outright, but then again, I've never paid more than £2K-ish for a car, which I saved up for for a while before buying it. I know that I'll always be driving an older car that will always need bits doing to it, but I prefer it that way to owing money. Just personal preference tbh.
  16. mrbeige, it sounds like a glow plug job tbh, although the good news is that if it still starts without them (eventually) it sounds like your compression is good! It's an absolute swine of a job to do on most diesels, but the best advice I can give is that once you've cracked off the initial resistance in the plug with a spanner, use a long handled screwdriver to coax it around anticlockwise until it comes out. Saves on the knuckle skin. I'd also invest in one of those extendable magnetic pick up tools, one of the best quids I ever spent! Good luck.... Tom
  17. You'd need more than 101 puppies for that! duke_st, I'm not sure if I still have them, but I had som e great shots of the supermarket car park at Le Mans last year. Supercar-tastic!
  18. I love it. Talk about crashing a party and becoming the star of the show.... :-)
  19. If I'm delivering pizza, then there are no excuses for p1ss poor driving.... "Out of my way oxygen thief!" "Encouler putin merde!" (sp?)
  20. Seems a little harsh on the SMCC to be honest. I can't think of anyone that condoned his actions.
  21. Sounds like it. Are the main lines plastic or rubber? If you're considering running any form of biodiesel blend, I'd recommend nylon lines as a replacement for OEM ones. Cheers, Tom
  22. Not sure if this is similar to the Golf GTi or not, but IF it is, then it's not too bad a job. The biggest ball ache I had was getting the new end back into the wishbone. Plenty of all purpose grease should help! :-) Cheers, Tom
  23. Yup, glad it's sorted indeed! Hurrah!
  24. In one sitting?! Well, put it this way, when I did the ones on my GTD, 3 out of the 4 caliper bolts had to be persuaded off with a set of mole grips and welding gloves, as the insides of the bolts were so rusty they just rounded off.... When I did my mate's it was only one that I had to do, but you get the idea... Good luck, Tom
  25. There's a good looking '89 valver in the For Sale section at the moment for £1800 (less without the private plate).
