  1. You know how I joked about not having that misfire (yet) at idle.... well guess what you get for tempting fate. I've spent the same amount of money, and had the same shopping list as you Neil, and still have the same problems....   2. 3 for me too; An M reg 2l 16v (written off by a friend rolling it down a hill) An H reg 1.8l 16v (previously owned by Coullstar and sold to buy an engagement ring) and the current K reg VR (I meant to buy a G60 but got side tracked)! The 2l valver 'felt' the fastest & most well balanced of the 3...but the VR makes the best noise by far! Cheers, Tom
  3. If you can't hear it at idle in the engine bay but could hear it while moving, I think it might be something other than an air leak. However, it could be a part moving under load creating the hole! Common places are the large plastic air intake elbow that runs from the MAF sensor to the back of the block (lots of junctions to break) and the Idle Pot Damper Valve. I found mine by moving parts around while it was idling and seeing what hissed! Good luck, Tom

    Shakey/Lumpy VR6

    I've got a dizzy VR and according to the garage currently tracing my misfire, the cam shaft sensor is located behind the distributor itself. I'm sure they labelled it the [strike:2l6t5bwf]lambda sensor[/strike:2l6t5bwf] sorry hall sender rather than the camshaft sensor, so perhaps a difference between the two? Cheers, Tom EFA

  7. My experience is limited to a CBR 125 I'm afraid which as previously mentioned might not suit your frame! I must say that I find riding it round town a doddle, and if you're not going to be out of 30/40 limits most of the time (in London) a 125 will probably do you fine. It has enough poke around town to be comfortable and the good thing about the smaller bikes as that filtering is easy and you can fit through gaps in traffic that are almost bicycle small (Leeds rush hour has taught me this :) ). The only place I feel slightly uncomfortable is dual carriageways as I'm wound it with not much more to give by about 70mph! Have a poke around the Biker Banter forum on Pistonheads for some friendly advice. WRT kit, keep an eye on eBay, as I got a leather jacket, boots & gloves for about £30 and picked up a helmet from Hein Gericke for £60 so you can get the kit all in for Have fun! Tom
  8. I've used VHT paint with a pot & brush on the downpipe of my CBR before with not very good results. It's because I was an impatient git though, and didn't clean up the downpipe sufficiently. Make sure the engine is spotless before you paint it on, and leave plenty of time for it to dry otherwise it will just smell bad & flake off when you apply heat. Good luck, Cheers, Tom

  13. Thanks for that, most helpful! It's been bodged in the past by the looks of it so it's time to splash out on a new part... It's certainly down on power, but has been for a while (another bust hose and possibly a cam position sensor as well), so I can't tell the difference :) I'll see if I can find the part online to get an idea of the price...   15. Just an update, ever since getting back from the garage, it's been running worse than it was before. I know one of the knock sensors is gone and needs replacing, but now while still popping on the overrun at about 1250rpm, it now stutters & spits when pulling of from junctions in first, or under anything but the most gentle of throttle applications. The misfire wasn't there before, and I'm thinking might be sooted plugs (I'll check ASAP) but it doesn't do it when cold, only when warmed up, so I'm thinking it must be sensor related. I'm putting the popping of unburnt fuel down to another vacuum leak, which brings this rambling post to some sort of point. Can anyone tell me what this PTFE tape wrapped device hissing like a cobra under my bonnet is?: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00019 [800x600].JPG[/attachment:17c016st] DSC00020 [800x600].JPG[/attachment:17c016st] It's obviously leaking and needs either re-binding as a bodge or replacing, but can anyone tell me what it is any how expensive it might be please?   16. I know the rear one's supposed to be a doddle, but I thought I'd ask from the horse's mouth, just how much of a sod is the front one to do? Some of the posts in the search suggest taking the front end off the car is the best way to get at it. Is is possible to do with everything (bar the oil cooler) in situ though? Also, can some kind person point me in the direction of the cam position sensor, as apparently that's gone as well... Cheers, Tom
  17. Unfortunately my grandad passed away on sunday morning so I had to cancel my test ride as I spent the day with my parents. I'm booked in again in 2 weeks so I'll have to let you know how I get on.   21. Finally got the connectors I needed to hook up the radio (after 10 months of laziness) only to find that all I can receive are Radio 2 & Minster FM. Time to invest in that DAB aerial set I think! Booked it in to the Garage to get my overfuelling problems sorted (I think it needs an ECU reset...) Cheers, Tom

  24. I bought a specific tool for this after doing the calipers on my Golf and encountering a similar problem: The Bionic Grip and they have proved useful on a number of occasions! If you're in a rush though, I found a set of these babies or similar combined with a decent set of gloves to enable you to get a really good grip without lacerating your hands worked as well.
