Excellent! Very pleased it's still running well for you. Roll on the spring & summer (especially now I'm fully committed to 2 wheels!) Cheers, Tom

Superb cars, and nippy with it (more so than you might think). Any lack of straight line performance is more than made up for my their sure-footedness. I'd echo what others have said about getting a Mk1 Eunos too, a friend has just picked one up from eBay and it's a corker. Cheers, Tom

...and it did me fine for a year before that (track day included)! I'm glad it's given you no trouble, did you ever find that second key though? Still not turned up at my end I'm afraid. Cheers, Tom

I agreed that drivers on the continent seem better than those in the UK (with the possible exception of the Belgiums who will be 3" from your rear bumper at 80mph in a cloudburst...). I had a thoroughly pleasant time driving to Luxembourg and then on to the Nurburgring a little while back. Definitely worth the detour, but I'd treat it as a gentle excursion and just enjoy the experience of driving it if you have any distance to go once you've been there... I managed 4 laps in the Golf with only slight wear to the tyres and got all the way back without missing a beat. Have fun! Cheers, Tom

That's it, it's sold.... :pale: My daily driver is now a 75 year old Morris!

I agree on the potholes having been out on the bike yesterday. There were a couple of corners that really shook it up! Still, the tax on a 125 is only £15/year, so I can't complain, I don't think that would pay for a single pothole! I can thoroughly recommend it as a cheap mode of transport though, and if I had to commute any distance to work, 105mpg would easily sway me! Cheer,s Tom

What are your plans for this bank holiday weekend
TomB replied to WigsVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Modelling the slope stability of a clay core dam and the slopes of the reservoir that it's to contain. If I finish that, I get to do settlement calculations for the spillway & pump house design as well. I lead an exciting life! Meeting a forum member tomorrow though to discuss the sale of the VR so it's not all bad (apart from having to sell it of course). Enjoy the sunshine all! Tom -
Not sure I can help with whether that's a good price or not, but hell that's some damage. Sticky rings causing eccentric loading (just a guess mind). Good luck, Tom
-
...put it up for sale and had a little moment.

Does it only do it on partial throttle ( Just wondering if it's a fueling problem... Cheers, Tom

One way ticket to hell needed here please :D

I'm glad to see another one back on the road, and I'll keep my eye on the for sale section, as I need a few parts...

Attached the leads properly to the plugs, washed it and then took it out for a drive to see if the misfire was cured. It is!

Old car scrappage scheme - it's kicking off!
TomB replied to Sonicriot13's topic in General Car Chat
Yup, same principle with buildings, bridges etc. Anything with a high embodied energy value which has already been constructed, should be kept in service as long as possible IMO. By all means replace broken/written-off vehicles with lighter more fuel efficient ones, but scrapping servicable vehicles because they're 'old' seems foolish and wasteful. /2p -
Yup...I took it out for some spirited testing and it turns out that connecting up the plug leads properly has cured the misfire (unsurprisingly). I hope yours is as simple Neil G60... Cheers, Tom
-
Continue testing for the source of the misfire.... I'm coming up with a theory but it doesn't make me happy... :bad-words:

Well, I might have found the cause of mine, so if your hasn't gone already it could be worth checking to see if it's the same. Turn's out after a new dizzy, plugs & leads, the verdamdt garage hadn't fitted 4 out of the 6 plug leads correctly, and they were arcing to the block. :censored: I'll do some more testing though to find out if that's definitely the case.... Cheers, Tom P.S. If you're using the metal plug lead removal tool with a running engine in the rain, make sure you're wearing rubber soled shoes (and don't put your right hand on any earthing point of the car either... :) )

Thanks again gents, that's really helpful. When I get the chance to do it, I shall use those settings. Time to get it off the road for a months to do all those little jobs methinks.... Cheers, Tom
-
Yup, it's just had a new set of plugs and leads (and a dizzy too)! I changed the air intake elbow after I bust the original one at the track day  however that's a good tip as to where to check it. I shall have a look prior to giving it an Italian tune up with a bottle of injector cleaner tomorrow.... :D Cheers, Tom

I've never owned a G60, but everything I've owned tends to get a decent quality 10w40 semi-synthetic, changed every 6 months. If it meets (& exceeds) the manufacturers recommendations (I think VW run from 500 onwards). Your local motor factors should have something relatively decent that doesn't break the bank. I use Unipart's 'own' brand (because there's a branch just down the road from me :) ). Cheers, Tom

...and I for you man. I'll be calling my garage in the morning, and if they find out what's wrong, I'll post up what it was to make things easier for you. Currently eyeing up the ECU & Fuel pump relays as my next 'cheap' fix. Good luck! Cheers, Tom

Much obliged Kev, thanks for that. I assumed that it was a sod to do, however, it's unlikely that the knock sensor is the cause of the misfire, so it can wait for now... Good to eliminate the possibility of having an incorrectly blanked off part causing the popping on the overrun. Let the hunt continue... I think the cam position sensor forms part of the distributor on the dizzy models, so that's one down! Cheers, Tom

Just a further question/favour for anyone with a VR6 please. The new damper valve has a main 'in' and 'out' (about 10mm connections) but also a much smaller pipe which is blanked off, but still has a hose to attach to. The old one also seemed to be blanked off about 7mm down the pipe where it joined the main body of the valve, but I couldn't say for sure. Can anyone confirm that this third pipe should be blanked off? If so, can they explain (just to satisfy my curiosity) what the purpose of having a hose connected to it is! Cheers, Tom

Paid the garage to fix the misfire: New plugs, leads, distributor, temp sensor. Took if for a thrash....and howled in frustration as the misfire came back even worse! :brickwall: For 25 glorious minutes though :luvlove:
