  1. Its looks great, the heater dials look a complete b#tch to do. Just been looking at them, the lightpipes light up green not just the disc directly behind the cover panel. I'll investigate more, hopefully theres just another filter behind there somewhere.[/quote:22ddb] unfortunately the green filter is a coating on the back of the position indicator film, it can be removed by carefully sanding the green layer away, you will have to break the facia apart to get at it though
  2. Help - I'm still confused! I want the blue dials and red LCD's, but the reversed ones. Getting the dials looks dead simple, but I still don't understand how the LCD's work. How do you get just the digits to glow? you need to dismantle the clocks remove the lcd screens (screwed on from the back of the circuit board ) carefully peel the thin plastic clear filters off the front of the screens clean the adhesive off the clear plastic filters and the lcd screens re-fit the plastic filters on to the lcd screens but the other way round (with the side that had the adhesive on facing outwards then re-assemble and hey presto light digits with dark background
  3. can't you get different colours of i-pod?
  4. depends what you want if you want to spend the extra and get the alpine one which would be fully controllable from the headunit and probably display track info on the screen and probably sound and look better or go the cheaper route and use an mp3 player, i-pod or a seperate hard drive system they do a car kit for the i-pod dont they

    Dials Question

    Dials Question

both have clear bulbs with green tinted film the film needs to be removed and the bulbs swapped with led's of your chosen colour or just change the colour of the film and keep the clear bulbs
  7. most garages would change the whole alternator not just the bearings, not sure about the vr6 as far as removal of the engine their golf was only a 1.6
  8. sounds like either your water pump, alternator, or power steering pump have seized up for some reason unless your belt has gone slack for some reason ? the alternator bearings seized on my parents golf which caused the same symptoms and just needed new bearings which cost a few quid.
  9. remember the 6x9= chaviness debate do you think 5 pairs of 6x9's = 5x the chaviness   i would just love to know how they are wired up and if they are in their own enclosures what a muppet
  10. any idea where i could get hold of the polarised film as i might try making some kits up with the rgb led's ready to fit .........around 25 quid per kit :)
  11. did you find that on the talk audio forum? i noticed you where a member when i joined the other week?
  12.    he cant actually think thats cool can he   what a joke   ooohh a boss sound amp havnt seen one of those for years ....infact the last one i saw had set fire to the car it was in
  13. cant be as bad as the bond bug i actually ended up on two wheels in that thing a couple of times in strong side winds  not really surprising as you didnt even need a jack to change the wheels
  14. i never had a problem seeing mine even in the brightest sunny days in summer if anything i though they where easier to see compared to the ones in my caddy which are the same as standard corrado lcd's, black on white there may be a problem with the glossy finnish to the display when turning the film around but that can be sorted by spraying a light coat of etch effect spray over the film to give a matt finnish 8)
  15. my mates westfield with a 1.8l ford engine and weber twin 40's would be lucky to get more than 20mpg and had to be re-tuned twice a year with the changes in temperature, it also had a nasty habit of firing back out of the carbs and blowing the foam filters off the carb trumpets  carbs are just a crude way of getting plenty of ponies out of your engine and are better suited to track cars but can be quite reliable if well set up
  16. with the fine tolerences and mega high rev's in f1 cars, carbs just aren't up to the job they do provide plenty of power but at the expense of fuel economy and reliabillity
  17. When you say reversed LCDs, you mean with the lights off the screens are black with white numerials? yep and when the lights are on the numerals illuminate and the background stays dark just need to carefully remove the polarised film on the front of the lcd screens and turn it around or find somewhere that sells the film and just put it over the dials as they are, and it should have the same effect
  18. petrol......................and a match
  19. what colour wire are you using from the car? if it is a faulty ignition switch it would probably be worth changing it as you may start developing starting difficulties as well
  20. it really does need a good whack with a copper faced hammer, after about an hour of fannying about i started to get really p*ssed off with it and hit it really hard and it came apart with a satisfying click as the circlip unclipped  so a good tip is to get angry first, try stubbing your toe on a doorframe or standing on an upturned plug with bare feet that should do the trick
  21. thats why i though of it after seeing the noble at the motorshow 8) couldnt remember how to do it though :|
  22. i was toying with the idea of having them change colour with the revs so they change from blue to red gradually i got the leds dirt cheap from a guy on ebay i will try and dig out a link for them
  23. the circlip on the outer cv joints is in the middle of the splined section of driveshaft inside the cv joint and unclips with a good whack from a decent sized copper faced mallet, its possible to shatter the cv joint if you use a normal steel hammer so copper is safer
  24. rgb led's and a rotary switch, you can also combine the colours to make other colours including white :D i suppose you could also have variable resistors to vary the amount of colours even further :|
  25. looks better with red reversed lcd and blue illumination IMO or you could have it on a switch like mine, colours too suit your mood then. 8) mine are red most of the time with the christmas traffic at the moment  there are no bright spots normally it just shows up in photo's
