Cool I would like to own a red/dark blue espirit S4 one day, I do have that feeling though they might double in price in the next 5 years or so as people realise thy are a bargain alternative to a air cooled 911. They have all ready gone up a good chunk all ready. Have you the tartan interior in your S1 , got to be one of the coolest interiors ever made.

Yes the leathers go for a pretty penny ! Would you mind if I ask what other cars you have in your collection ? Cheers.
-
That is true but you have good mileage on the car and it is a hobby , also you would loose a couple of grand annualy easily on a modern car in depreciation and maintenance , therefore it's ok in my opinion if you enjoy and own the car for a few years.
-
After reading your to do list I would estimate with your purchase of car more like 15k-18k and above. Paint job and your recardo leather seats on there could be upto 4-5 k easily on its own if done to a high standard.

The best mechanic that could work on your car is yourself but the catch is you have to learn and have the facilities, know one will care for your car more then yourself, even garage owners that have a good reputation have to rely on their staff and things do go amiss. Many a time I have considered going down the lease option and dropping my classic car hobby as have had a couple of run ins with mechanics who have butchered my car and wrecked the whole whole ownership experience, even though I sourced a specilaist in that particular car. It can be extremly hard to communicate with some of them and I have even gone to the effort of writting clear instructions with photograps but they do not even bother reading them half the time, you just end up with a huge bill for diagnosing and changing out parts.

Sounds like a great plan for your rado , wow Fife is a far way to travel to get to Stealth racing, you probably saw my black magic Vr6 when you was there, Vince has had my car the last few weeks, complete new supension , bushes, mounts and exhaust system, Shrick refurbisment, subframes powder coated, sounds like your spending an absolute fortune on yours. Good luck with your project.

[ Hi mate, If you need any tips and what to look out for feel free to message me i know these cars like the back of my hands, had a couple of 996 , at a miniumum make sure you get the the cylinders boroscoped as it's not a rumour they are like choclate, I had a 10 k rebuild on a 996.2 2003 c2 with only 62k on the clock and full dealer service history and I really do look after my cars. Still love Porchse when they are working but I stick to a Merc pre 2000 V8 now for the reliability and there tiger tank build quality. If you can strech it go for the 997 Gen 2 , I actually am a bit odd though and prefer the look of a 996 compared to most. My biggest regret was not getting a 964 in white with blue leather back in 2004 only on for 12k but ended up buying some scaffolding instead:bonk: QUOTE=GUS;1215505]Sadly I'm selling this next April onwards. as I've decided to make the move to a Porsche 996/997 I'll post up my own detailed classified add in the New Year, but here's a little preview. So after purchasing my Raddo VR6 from Gibbo back in Nov 2015 @ 120,193 miles, even though there was no sound of any rattle or anything . The paranoid freak in me could not relax until I new the chains/tensioner were sorted. So was booked into Stealth 7 months later @120,681 miles. Was also talked into getting the SP 263 cams and clutch at the same time. I've spent close to £3,500k on it in my 3yrs of ownership. Its now just over 122k Miles, not been driven hard at all, and not even decided what I let it go for. Some guidance here would be appreciated. PS: Gibbo if your still on this forum and interested in buying it back let me know, she's still lookin tidy as when you owned it. Gus.

It is odd it might be a part that fits other models who knows.

If it was a VR6 this would be a great kit to change with the radiator. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thermostat-VW-Golf-3-Passat-35i-Corrado-53i-2-8-2-9-VR6-Motor-AAA-ABV-Syncro/371097522774?hash=item566722d256:g:sCUAAOSwg9dZwViq

Don’t think that if it is from VW Heritage that it is top notch some of their parts are great but some are exspensive and bottom of the range , ring that rad company and ask what brand it is . I tend to use heritage for Vw classics Germany , all other parts I try to source Febi,Bilstein, Bosch, Lemforder, Hella etc , topran and such is the last resort and parts with euro flags that don’t even tell you the source of the part or manufacturer.
-
Like fend said though worth asking them the brand they have in stock Hella would be a big yes.
-
Its getting cheaper by the post ha. https://www.adrad.co.uk/prices/prices.php?type=radiator&id=VW357&model=CORRADO&make=VOLKSWAGEN

There is also one on France ebay that is £20 cheaper.

How about this is it the same Hella model from Eurospares you purchased for your G60? Manufacture part number 8MK 376 715-011 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HELLA-ENGINE-COOLING-RADIATOR-8MK-376-715-011-I-NEW-OE-REPLACEMENT/153431100182?epid=650682589&hash=item23b934cb16:g:p~IAAOSwW4hcnB3d Hold on just realised the seller advertises as London but look closer in Lithuania but I think that is the rad you need. Mine is a aluminum aftermarket one that is a litlle large but don't half keep the engine cool, only down side is you have to modify the brackets to fit, well the mechanic did,

Also Voo if your after insulation 20 mm thick . I went for the 10 mm thick option as the Shrcik VGI has bad clearance on the bonnett as they were really designed for the golf MK3 engine bay, you even have to modidy the bonnet so the Schrick inlet manifold can fit in but bloody worth it . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Corrado-Facelift-FL-Buckel-Dammmatten-fur-Motorhaube-t-20mm/292428993493?hash=item44162053d5:g:4ooAAOSwm~daUk6J -

Yes rust is a bugger totaly agree P , the R107 have terrible rusting on the bulk head , engine out job to replace and very hard to inspect pre purchase, youll find out when water starts coming through the dash . there was one really rare R129 the SL73 which was an AMG pre merger car that Merc sent to them at a customers request , it was a bored out 6.0 litre V12 to 7.3 litre just an absolute animal , most went to Saudi Arabi but there are a couple in the UK I believe but never come on to the market. there is also a very rare AMG SL60 and SL55 which were the bored out V8 engines with sport suspensions.
-
Strangley enough the Merc independent I take mine to owns a W124 estate so I guess must be a great model. You can get a R129 SL320 for a great price at the moment either the inline 6 or V6 variation but i would stay away from th SL280 very sluggish. Love the 560 sec with the AMG kit holy cow they look so unique and aggresive, and lets not forget the 190E Cosworth all ready asking silly prices on them though unforunatley. When I used to walk to school it was the Corrado and R129 which were wow they are amazing ! To be fair the R129 are ok to leave outside you have a hardtop, the only thing that really gets rusty are the front wings which you can still buy over the counter, however the model before the R107 do need to be garaged absolute rust buckets and the one after the r129, R170 are well no comment.

I thought black tips was a relativley new thing but my SL R129 1999 actually came from factory with a black tip suprisingly, mind you still on the original exhaust 20 years old, this car will outlive me ha ! Apparnetly they have never had to change out/replace a V8 block from the R129, maybe the most reliable V8 engine ever made I guess, when a Merc was built to last for ever and they believed the best advertisment was an old merc on the road, before they merged with Chrysler. The original receipt was a whoping 74k in 1999, I really recommend anyone looking for a second classic to invest in one of these they have a very bright future and very affordable at the moment.
