  1. Load of old staged schitt, as usual. Falklanders were obviously tipped off about it and some over reacted. It's just free publicity.
  2. Went up to Stealth today to fit a couple of goodies and see what map my ECU had in it, and then get Vince to remap it. Starting with the goodies, we have the infamous "WALK" (WhiteLine Anti-Lift Kit), my old favourite Vibratechnics for the dog boner, and last but not least, a GFB DV+ to replace the OEM diverter valve (aka "dump valve"). The WALK replaces the OEM voided console bushes. A known weak point on this platform. I can see why VAG do that. It reduces steering wheel kick back and smoothes out assorted twitchinesses, but at the cost of feel and precision. The WALK doesn't increase vibration or add any unwanted bad behaviour. Unbeknown to me, the previous owner had already fitted a VT boner (the man has good taste!), so we didn't bother with that. It's a testament to Vibra if I assumed the mount was OEM, because I can't feel the engine at all in the cabin at idle. The WALK did it's job perfectly. Steering and braking are now epic, not that it was too shabby to begin with :D The engine didn't feel quite right with the GFB DV+, so I've gone back to the stock one for now until we can figure that one out. Now onto the mapping shenanigans. My ECU was indeed revo'd by the previous owner as I suspected. Thank god I went to see Vince. Long story short: without him, it would have been extremely difficult to have any map other than Revo in it. That and some other reasons really have put me off Revo & generic flash maps for life, not that I was a big fan of them begin with. To give you an idea of the mental torque curve (more on that later) this was the first power run "as it was" when I arrived. It was a map with everything turned down that Revo forces your ECU to do if you disconnect the battery :censored: Vince then managed to re-flash a stock file back into the ECU and it then made 245hp. Standard ones make nearer 260hp in the winter apparently :D Oh, 0.9 bar is the stock ED30 boost pressure. Finally I know! A few runs and map tweaks later, we discovered the high pressure fuel pump can't keep up with the demanded rail pressure. What that means in english is, I need a new pump :( But before we discovered that, the car started climbing out of the dyno with Vince's map!!. It had to be tethered down at both ends. Not something I've seen before on their rollers, not even a VRT! They've only seen that happen once or twice themselves, with 500+hp cars. The reason for it, we think, is partly because of the way the torque ramps up so damn fast and because of the way their new dyno software controls the brake retarder. Anyway, with a tired pump, we called it a day at 300hp and 334lbft. The midrange was dangerously lean, so Vince wound it back to 280hp and 300lbft for safety until I get a new / uprated pump fitted. Luckily the ECU throws a fault code if the rail pressure is too low, so I'll keep an eye on it. Vince showed me another ED30 plot running his map which made 338hp, so that's what I'm aiming for :) I'll update this when I get a new pump and the map turned up to the full Bovril level. For now, Ovaltine it is. Another shout to Vince and the guys at Stealth. Legends. Firstly, I always leave with a tonne of new knowledge, thanks to their knowledge sharing and skills. I learned more about TFSI engines from Vince in 1 hour than I did trawling the net for 2 weeks :notworthy: Secondly, their prices are always better than reasonable and lastly, Vince's maps never fail to amaze me. Impeccable manners, creamy smooth and ballistically powerful :D
  3. That means nothing I'm afraid. ALWAYS buy genuine where critical parts are concerned. VAG had a bad batch of tensioners for both 12 and 24V engines not long ago and they've been revised numerous times. Chances are ECP sold you a duff un (unbeknown to them). Buy a genuine one... from VW. PLEASE. With a cherry on top. Buying from a dealer means you get the latest part. Thank god you found the cause before further damage occurred!
  4. That was the best exhaust for Corrados, ever! Loads of flow for good top end power and just the right balance between noise and refinement, and zero drone.
  5. Nice one! That's the thing with Audis these days. It could be a 4 pot derv in your rear view mirror, or a B8 S4 that's been fettled! You should put 2.0 TDI badges on the back to really upset people!
  6. There is still oil in the sump isn't there? I know that sounds silly and obvious, but just wondering if you lost a load on the 5 mile journey home? Did you clean / replace the little screw-in valve in the block?
  7. Hot oil pressure at idle should be 2 bar with a 10W/40 oil. 4 bar when cold. Pressure should rise to about 4 bar at 2000rpm iirc. 1.5 bar won't set the pressure warning buzzer off though. Are you using the older style upper tensioning pad and tensioner? Did you bleed and fill the tensioner before fitting? Kind of sounds like oil starvation up top to me. Was there any play in the intermediate shaft bearing, did the oil pump drive spindle turn freely etc? Something similar to this happened to MikeVR6 a couple of times, iirc. Rod bearings kept spinning because of oil control issues. No one knew why it happened and it stumped Stealth Racing as well as they were tasked with changing the engines, twice, I think! Really sucks mate. Something like this can easily leave a bitter aftertaste and destroy the bond you have / had with the car but kudos for sticking with it.
  8. De-cat = de-torque. The noise is OK for an hour but the horrendous drone and obnoxiously loud show boating noises wears REAL thin..... especially for your neighbours
  9. Funny how some people get sentimental about tax discs, but resented paying for them. What next, framed Council Tax bills when the government update that as well?
  10. Cheers guys! Swap meet list MK1 and MK2 GTIs, and a Corrado, but they are nearly twice the price of Otto direct! Plus the MK1 GTI in Mars red I want is £200 on there, sod that! :D Yeah ordered myself an E30 325i and a MK5 Golf W12-650 (because they don't do 'normal' MK5 GTIs yet) from Otto :) I am a member of Club Ottomobile but all that confuses me to be honest. Not an easy site to follow.
  11. Took mine off today. It's weird, almost like not wearing a belt or going commando.....something missing.
  12. Speaking of Corrado models, anyone know what the score with otto mobile is? I'm trying to get a model of every car I've owned (well, the good ones!) and every time I try and buy a MK1 GT1, MK2 GTI and a Corrado, they're permanently 'sold out'. I've noticed a few UK model resellers selling various otto mobiles at greatly inflated prices. Are they just buying them up in bulk or something? http://otto-models.com/en/volkswagen/103-volkswagen-corrado-g60.html
  13. All those years of using rust removal products when I could have just rubbed lemons and limes onto my cars :D
  14. We live in a very superficial world. It's all about spending 5 days in a week in the gym, Plan B / The Script haircuts, tattoos and having a leased Audi. F'ckin sheep. Kicking back in an old 7 series is seriously cool :)
  15. I think it was something to do with radio interference suppression in the 80s/90s. Just rip it off!
  16. Cheers chap, good info. A B5 is on my car Bucket List which I'll probably move onto when I'm done messing with TFSI engines. It depends on how much Audi have locked the ECU down etc. Development costs of hacking into it to recoup etc. There's also the labour and parts involved in fitting the smaller S/C pulley. A typical Golf or Corrado map with no hardware changes is £350-£400, yep. I think it also comes down to how much people are prepared to spend on cars. Some of my most well off friends / family drive around in beaters :D There's plenty of people in Essex prepared to spend £400 a month on a white Audi with gun metal wheels though.
  17. Does £1500 get you another 140hp on the B5, inc mapping? I thought the stock K04s were only good for 450? Swapping those out for bigger snails is waaaaaaay more than £1500. The B8 is a proper weapon and ripe for a spot of compound charging. Supercharge it to 480hp and then a massive turbo kicks in
  18. Yeah in that case, no gasket on the pump end. I guess machined surfaces and thick oil doesn't really need it?
  19. Do you mean the transfer pipe? The S shaped pipe that bolts to the block and the output of the pump. There is no gasket at the pump end but the pipe has a built-in O ring on the block end.
  20. 11 Audi Quattros scrapped, but only 6 Allegros? :D The 64 Corrados were probably dogs and deserved to be put out of their misery!
  21. Sweet! Is that a BMW style top mounted oil filter I see there? I wish all cars had that! It looks to be one great big Supercharger / Chargecooler unit and probably has the bypass throttle built into it too? Awesome. Yeah I've read about DSG boxes sapping a bit of power but VAG really are on the ball with their drivetrains and engines at the moment. Bonkers power with refinement and smoothness about town.
  22. I was surprised a supercharged V6 could make so much grunt actually. I'd love to know what charger that engine uses! :D 4WD is where it's at in the wet, definitely!
  23. /\ Yep, swapping to a BDE is the same as swapping to an R32. Totally different harnesses and ECU.
