  1. Aren't there 2 different belts? One for the Alternator and water pump, and a second one just for the power steering pump? Have you changed both of them?? What was on upside down?
  2. Excellent, thats the kind of news I like!! I'll continue to keep an eye on it as I'm super paranoid at the moment as the new engine's only done 30 miles in the car now. All seems good tho!! :D :D 8)

    Timing on a 16v.

Had loads of problems with this last night, it just wouldn't go right, I'd try and allign the marks, but before it got close the engine would die. Got me well stressed (kind of, not a very stressed person in general!) so I sat and watched braveheart whilst trying to find info about it in the Haynes manual. Went back out later on and checked the HT leads.... No2 and 3 were on the wrong way round!!!  Oh dear....... Put them on the right way round and off we went! Goes lovely now so thanks for your help!!
  4. Finally got the engine up and running last night, and it's running sweetly!! Tappets were noisy to start with, but once the oil thinned out and actually got into them they've now quietened right down, so thats cool. So what I'm wondering is what a normal temp range for the 16v is? On the journey in today which was M25, so a fair bit of stop/start then a nice open A road blat into work once I'm off the motorway. It got up to 114deg, then cooled again as I drove, but when I stopped it went back up there. The water temp went just above the big white line between 70 and 110deg so I'd guess about 105deg or so? What does everyone elses run at???
  5. Here's an annoying problem I wouldn't mind sorting soon.... I've recently put on FK coilovers and wound it down so it's nice and loooow. I've also replaced the front wishbones as the rubbers had perished on the old ones. Now when I'm cruising there is a squealing noise coming from the front passenger side wheel. If I accelerate hard it goes away, as does it if I let off the gas altogether or put it in neutral and coast. Its a really nasty squealing noise like a fanbelt slipping, but i know it's not any belts on the engine as you can rev the engine all you like with no noise at all (other than the normal nice induction  ) Gunna try regreasing the wheel bearings tonight, but other than that I'm stumped. There's nothing rubbing, and when you jack the car up and spin the wheel there's no noise. Could the fact its low be causing this?? :?: :?: :?:

    Timing on a 16v.

Have done an engine swop on it and I've set it up so it goes, I just need it to run properly for the trek to Inters... Gunna have to look for these then, as I couldn't see them when I looked... :? Probably wasn't looking hard enough......!

    Timing on a 16v.

I need to adjust the timing on the 16v engine I've just dropped in. I've done it before on an 8v, but not sure how to do it on a 16... Can anyone let me know? I've got the strobe light for it..... Cheers!!
  8. I'll check all those things out when I get home tonight... I'm renewing the o-ring seal on the water pump at the weekend, but unless it's evaporating off as soon as it comes off I'm stumped as there's no leakage visable under the car. Only thing I can think of is it's coming out the exhaust as steam... How likely is that???? :?
  9. Yeah, the clouds of smoke are quite white... Looking at it under pressure, when I get home and when I get to work there's no obvious exit point for the water. If it is the headgasket then would it get through that amount of water? I actually hope it is the headgasket, as the new engine is going in on Sat it'll mean that it'll solve the water problem. If it's something else, then I'll still be loosing coolant on Monday morning....
  10. Hello again, another request for help.... 91 J plate 16v with just under 160k on the clock. It's loosing about 1-2 litres of coolant on the journey into work which is about 30 miles. I'll fill it up before I leave, and about 12-15 miles into the journey the warning light comes on. Last night it took about a litre to fill it up after work, this morning it took about 1.5. The puzzling thing is I can't see where its leaking from. There's no steam anywhere in the engine, no drips from under the engine, and I can't see anything wrong with the radiator. The engine is smoking quite heavily at the moment (got a new one I'm dropping in on Saturday) and when it was blowing the smoke over the back windscreen the other night there was condensation forming on the glass. Could the engine be 'absorbing' the coolant somehow? If so, it points to a head gasket, but there is no mayonaise in the oil... Anyone have any ideas??
  11. Other than a new engine... I have this... It's done 150k and is now smoking really badly, to the point where the rest of the car is sorted, but this is acutely embarrassing. It's starting to drink water as well. The little warning light keeps coming on and the level keeps dropping. I've sourced a new engine for it (recon 1.8 out of a Golf GTi) but what else should I change with the engine out? I've swopped an 8v Golf engine before, but not a 16v. I'd guess the principles are the same?? Gunna change the clutch as I don't think this has ever been done, will anything else benifit with changing?? Might well be doing it this weekend, as I'm not sitting in a convoy of heavily done up dubs next weekend clouding them all in smoke...! What I'm replacing; Engine. Clutch Oil & Filter Antifreeze & coolant Anything else??
  12. Here are the pics I promised.... When I first got them I wound them right up to the hardest setting... When I got back from the dentist after he'd put all my fillings back in again I wound them down a full turn. As it is at the moment I'm just tweaking them and seeing how they feel. Not quite sure where they are at the moment, probably about 1/2 to 3/4 turn towards firm from the softest setting, but they probably won't stay that way!!
  13. "though that's easier said than done on the rears because of the parcel shelf supports being in the way! " If you've got aftermarket speakers (might still work if you use the original holes, but I'm not sure about rattles) then unscrew the 2 screws that hold the speaker assembly into the parcel shelf supports. This'll mean that with a little upward pressure to the base of the 6x4 speakers they'll pop upwards. I then cut away a tiny amount of plastic from the parcel shelf supports which allows me to just fit the key in to adjust the damping. Once adjusted, just drop the speakers back into their holes and people who look in the back are non the wiser. I'll post photo's tomorrow for you, but at the mo it's raining and there's a bit of a walk to the car...
  14. FK Konigsports, very nice indeed. Had them on for a few weeks now, and they are starting to bed in and give a softer ride which is nice. Might stiffen up the koni's a little to keep it completely level. Utterly transformed the ride of the car and has made it sooooo much fun to drive now!! :D :D :D
  15. As a word of advice DO NOT buy the crappy ones for £35. I did 2 months ago, and already the bush has disintegrated meaning a seriously sloppy front end (not good as I've jsut put coilovers on and want to rag it...) I phoned them up yesterday and they were very apologetic, but being apologetic isn't gunna help me get under the car and sort out new ones, nor pay for the tracking to be done again... You get what you pay for... :x (If the rubbers have gone, jack the car up and try and wobble the wheel side to side (ie grip at 3 and 9 o'clock) if there's play there and not top to bottom (12 and 6 o'clock) then look at the bushes as you wobble the wheel and you, or at least I, can see the rubber move...)

    33hz

It's a 16v C, so no intercooler, or supercharger for that matter.... :( Quite a nice idea about keeping the fogs and dumping the indicators. Is there a law though that says the indicators have to be within a certain distance from the edge of the car?

    33hz

Nice one, was gunno do something similar about the dark fogs at the front.... Gunna take the fogs out possibly and put in (black) mesh and force some air up into the airbox. Darken up the indicators as well... Looks good, from what you've done I'm def gunna dark up the front of it, and I think delocking needs to be done anyway. Nice one, cheers!! :D
  18. I like the seats as well.... How much did they set you back?? Might have to look into that one..... :)
  19. Now I come to think about it, it is quite odd... Might be worth looking into, but I might find something I don't like!!!  I'll have a chat to the guy whose doing my tracking tomorrow...
  20. "Did you find you had to set one side higher on the coilovers in order to get the car level? I did! " Yes, very odd... Set the springs all at the same height on the driveway before they went in, but once on the car there was quite a difference, so lots of fettling about jacking and twisting and now it sits nice and level... did u get the cambers and tracking done too~? Thats being done tomorrow night.... Just waiting for it to bed in.....
  21. http://www.carelect.demon.co.uk/index.html Very helpful website, helped me find out why my Golf would keep pissing petrol everywhere after an engine change. They do repaired ECU's for a fraction of VAG....
  22. Yeah, I'm after some 17's but I've spent a fortune on it in the last couple of months, and with my companies IT dept (where I work) being outsourced in the next few months my jobs a little ropey, so I'm tightening the purse strings... They are in the pipeline though, and as soon as the budget allows I'm after some Lenso Mesh's (or something else depening on what I see at inters this year... )
  23. Well, a lot lower than it was on Friday thanks to the FK's that went on over the weekend... I actually woke up looking forward to work this morning (actually thats a lie, I woke up looking forward to the drive into work!) Have yet to try speed bumps though... I also half tinted the rear lights on it as well... Thoughts on these???
  24. Don't suppose you could post a link to them on ebay could you?? Can't find them... :? Also, if anyone's considering bidding on them, or anything Corrado wise, it might be an idea to post up here so two people from the forum don't unnecesarily push the price up....
  25. Been wondering that on and off for years since I first saw a Corrado, but now think about it a lot more as every time I hit 45mph I'm reminded... How much use is that little spoiler that pops up so nicely at 45mph? If I were doing a 0-60 1/4 mile type thing, would it be worth removing the fuse for it to keep it down so there is less drag from the back of the car? (Ok, I wouldn't actually do that as it wouldn't make a huge difference to mine, but if I had a superly tuned one would it make a difference??)
