  1. It's just a case of removing the CAT part of the exhaust & replacing it with a straight piece of pipe. The oxygen sensor it then screwed into this piece of pipe (instead of the CAT). Maximum benefit is then gained when the car is re-chipped - so that the engine management system knows that there is no CAT fitted.
  2. So long as your car is pre-1994 then the CAT is not needed for MOT regulations. Extra power gained will depend on which car you're fitting it to. As a general rule, forced induction (supercharged & turbocharged) cars will gain more power from removing the CAT than normally aspirated cars will. On some cars, removing the CAT will give no power increase at all - it really depends on the type of induction and/or injection system that the car has.
  3. No problem - I'll be fitting it this weekend (hopefully).
  4. Well, it's that time of year again.. :? My insurance is up for renewal. I'm 34yrs old & last year cost me £1600 fully comp (3 points, 1yr no claims & no declared mods) This time around I've had a few quotes - I now have 2yrs no claims, 9 points, R1 charger, 68mm pulley, re-chip, large induction kit, Magnex exhaust, 17" wheels, lowered suspension, £1000 worth of amps & speakers. All of which have been duly declared... Front mount cooler & CAT bypass not fitted yet.. Best quote so far is from Chris Knott insurance - fully comp £847.50... :D Which compared to some of the other quotes I've had is a complete bargain !! HIC = £1700 fully comp Adrian Flux = £1187 fully comp
  5. That'll be the VW camper brigade...... I did that a few years ago in a Opel Kadett 1.6SR - totally trashed it - woke up in a farmers field.... Were all gonna have to have a big barbeque/pissup at the campsite ??
  6. I'm looking forward to GTI International already........
  7. I think it's just a few people who don't get along - that's human nature. Everybody can't get along with everybody else all the time - were all different people with different views. For what it's worth I think the CCGB and the Forum are both great - just offering different advantages.

    A few questions

Sounds very odd to me. Does the car have a CAT1 alarm fitted ?? The only thing that I can think of is a badly fitted alarm.
  9. Show was pretty much what I expected for this time of year. Wasn't really looking to buy anything but I agree there wasn't very much Corrado stuff there. It was good to meet up with some of you guys there - maybe at the next show we'll have to organise a place & time so we can all meet. Near one of the food trailers perhaps...........
  10. I would have it fixed before you drive it again. If it catches fire, it will fry your whole car - not just your engine. Given what you've said, I'm surprised it hasn't caught fire already !!
  11. If PhatVR6's mate doesn't want it, I'll gladly take it off your hands.
  12. Good to see you Jim, Tattie, PhatVR6 & everybody else who I managed to meet up with. Trip home was okay - big black cloud over Leeds when I got back tho...
  13. Knew I should have left my sunglasses on....
  14. Local "Powerflow" dealer in Leeds (Gelderd Road) are charging £60 fully fitted for a custom made, stainless steel, G60 CAT bypass. 0113 244 0909
  15. I spent all day wandering round looking for a guy in a g-werks shirt
  16. Sounds like a loose/faulty reverse switch to me.

    G60 vs MR2

427 cubic inch Chevvy V8 with twin Paxton Superchargers - totally awesome car. This has to be the greatest car ever made - far better performer than the 289 cubic inch (pussie's) version !! One day I will own one of these.. 8) 8)
  18. I'm with you on this one G60 On the whole I really don't/didn't like VW's at all (even though I used to work for them !! ) 18 months ago, I needed a second car and I wanted something which looked okay, cheap and had reasonable performance. I ended up buying an old Scirocco Scala 1.8i - great car, good acceleration, nice looks & fairly cheap to run. In time, I grew to like it more & more. I changed jobs earlier this year & lost my company car. I had a drive in a friend's Corrado and decided to buy one. I'm heading towards another company car soon but I'll definitely be keeping the Corrado !!
  19. Given the age of the G60's, and the cheapness of the hall sender (around £35 from memory) I'd just replace it anyway. they want £87 from work for one, where do you get yours from Must be a while since I last bought one !! You're absoloutely correct:- 1990-1991....Hall Sender £87 + vat 1992.............Exchange Distributor £85 + vat (Hall Sender not available seperately for 1992 build cars)
  20. I've got a spare boss for a Scirocco - smaller splines than my '92 G60. RobyD - If you're coming to the show at Donnington Park this Sunday, I can fetch my socket set & see if it fits your 1.8 16v ?? You may have an earlier type steering column to my G60.
  21. I use Meguiars "Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant" - available from most, quaility, car accessory shops. It's great for dashboards, centre consoles, tyre sidewalls, window rubbers, etc storm81 - have you seen the price of new window rubbers ?? (£200 per door just for the front/top seal !!)
  22. You mean a Tractor ??....
  23. I had a Nissan 300ZX (twin turbo) company car for around 3 months. I used to work for Mercedes and have used cars such as SL60 AMG, E55 AMG, C32 AMG, C43 AMG, SL600, S500, etc. The most exciting car I've ever driven has to be a Porsche 911 Turbo (3.2) - a real drivers car.... :rambo: Not bad for a lad who grew-up on a council estate in York !!
  24. :blackeye: .........
