Can't be fixed or you wouldn't be able to run them on unleaded fuel (no CAT). 1.8-16v was originally setup for 4 star fuel
-
F.door speakers (I've got a pair if you need em) 145mm accross the screw holes, 130mm diameter speaker. From a G60 but I'm fairly sure they're the same.
-
Maybe worth changing the small fuel pump in the tank. It forms part of the tank sender unit. I think they're only about a tenner & take 10 mins to fit. This pump was always a problem on nearly all K-jetronic cars.
-
Just a thought - when was the fuel filter last changed ?? Made a big difference to my Scirocco when I did that.
-
Sounds like a fairly similar system to my Scirocco 1.8i Scala - really flies as it's a lot lighter than the Corrado. (not a patch on my G60 though 8) )

Not sure if this has any relevence on a 1.8-16v, but on a G60 the blue temp sensor MUST be disconnected to setup the timing correctly. This disables the corrective timing system controlled by the ECU. The G60 has a knock sensor which senses when the engine is starting to pink and the ECU retards the ignition accordingly. If your car has a knock sensor fitted then I would expect you would need to disable any corrective timing system that it has fitted. Maybe worth your while phoning your local VW dealer/specialist to find out. Advanced timing (without pinking) will almost always give you extra power.

Cheers Darren Polished aluminium it is then 8)

Gonna be fitting a large front mounted intercooler fairly soon. Question regarding pipework - Would I be better fitting black plastic pipes - similar to the standard ones or would I be able to take advantage of the heat reflective properties of polished aluminium. Or would stainless steel be better ?? Would shiny plastic be better ?? Cheers

The only manual that I know is available is called a "Bentley Manual". Mine is on CDrom - expensive at approx £80 but can save a few garage bills. It mainly deals with the G60 & VR6 models which were exported to the USA.

Can't remember on a 1.8-16v, remove the distributor cap and get a friend to sit in the car & turn the engine over. If the rotor spins in a clockwise direction then to advance the timing the distributor should be turned anticlockwise and vice-versa. http://www.snstuning.com mainly deals with G60's but like funky said, there are some good tips on there.

Sticking a Raceland coilover kit on my car next weekend. I'll let you know what the ride is like. Fitting the kit mainly for looks. Not really bothered if the ride is a bit unforgiving - I used to run a Merc 190E 2.6 which was dropped on it's knackers, I kind of got to like the bumpy ride.

The only info I've got is for a G60 - maybe similar. Use new jublee clips - usually either size "000" or "00". Plug or clamp the fuel feed pipe - will leak fuel. Don't smoke while doing job. Use plenty of WD40 to prevent any screws from snapping while your undoing them. Bare minimum of tools will be a pair of molegrips for clamping fuel feed pipe - not too tightly. Pair of pliers - maybe needed to remove old hoseclips. Flat screwdriver - for easing fuel pipes away from old filter. Phillips screwdriver - for tightening new jubilee clips. Use steel jubilee clips - do not use cheap & nasty alloy ones !!
-
Also, VW used to glue the rotor arms in place - if yours is you'll need to mash it off with pliers.
-
Obvious sign would be a cracked cap. Otherwise look inside at the terminals, if they are badly corroded then replace it. The terminal on the end of the rotor corrodes and may appear pitted. I replace mine every 12 months regardless of condition, along with the plug leads. 8)

Sounds like an oil pressure problem - low oil pressure on startup will cause your tappets to rattle. I agree with Scott, you need to find the root of the problem or you may end up wasting a load of cash. Wise word of warning - don't drive the car until it's sorted. The problem you describe could, ultimately, cause your engine to seize !!

Did you laquer them as well ??
