Ginger69, Quite correct about the metal head gasket - don't use a paper type one. Did you get the cam cover powder coated ? Engine paint usually peels off quite quickly (even with the correct undercoat/primer), in my experience.

20mpg definitely too low for a 16v. Get the c/o checked - I suspect that the car's running rich. Not sure if your car has a 5th injector (for cold starting), if so - that may be the problem. Possibly caused by a faulty temp sensor - car may be running in "coldstart" mode all of the time.

Had similar problems on 2 cars in the past. 1st was a Mk2 Ford Escort (RWD) - problem was front road spring turning in it's spring seat, removed & refitted front spring - cured. 2nd was my G60 - CV joint problem, replaced all 4 CV joints - cured. Problem with lowering FWD cars is that it causes extra stress on the CV joints (both inner & outer). Ideally, the suspension should ba at a height whereby the driveshafts are complely horizontal. The less horizontal the driveshafs, the more strain on the CV joints. When the car is lowered, the driveshafts are effectively lengthened (wheel hub is further from gearbox output shaft) & the extra length is allowed/compensated by the inner CV joint. In an extreme case (if the bumpstops are too short) - the driveshafts will hit the front chassis legs. I replaced all 4 CV joints on my G60 & the problem was cured for approx 25k, then the problem re-occured. Replaced all 4 CV joints again - problem cured again.

Ka`, bit of a longshot here but I'll explain my thinking. Mercedes have a problem with some of their vehicles, which I will try not to bore you yoo much with. The root of he problem that they have is the routing of some of the engine bay wiring. This gives the symptoms of a defective coil. When the coil is replaced, the wiring needs to be disturbed (which for a time solves the problem). The impression is that the coils keep going faulty & indeed keep being replaced. The fault is actually the routing of the wiring - the coils which are being removed are perfectly okay. If a person was to remove the "defective" coil & put the same (old) coil back on, it would work perfectly well. I'm not even sure if Mercedes are aware of this phenomena - so far as I know they still replace the coils. My point is wether or not any electrical work has been carried out on your car, thus moving/altering the wiring & possibly causing your problem ? Possibly you have some wiring too close to a heat source - may explain why the fault is intermittent. Wiring which gets too hot can become brittle with age. -

It is possible that the one I saw was polished & not chromed. I polished a set of wheels a few years ago with a drill, polishing wheel & a tube of Solvol Autosol - ended up with a "mirror" finish. -
All brake discs & pads (regardless of manufacturer) take a few miles to "bed in". They should work better when they have a few miles on them. Earlier greenstuff pads were sh1te but the newer compound is much better.

I drove a 1.8-16v about a year ago but it was suffering engine problems. Can't really say what it would be like if the engine was running correctly. I doubt it would be too slow - uses the same/similar engine as the Golf 1.8 GTI 16v. One of my mates had one when they were new. He thought it was great but expectations back then weren't what they are now. If you're looking for a comparison - there's a big step from a 16v to a G60. G60 has far more torque.

The problem with Jabba is that in the past they have been known to rebuild chargers that should have been thrown away. In my personal experience, a Jabba rebuild certificate is no guide as to the condition of the charger. Either have the charger checked out or budget for a possible £1000 when it blows up.

Waz, Some wheel refinishers have the equipment & skills to skim the mounting face of the wheel. This will make the wheel sit further inboard & have less chance of catching the outer arches.

I'm sure I've seen a car with a chromed charger at one of the shows. -
VERY tight squeeze - I had to grind off the rear wheel arch lip on one side to stop the tyre from rubbing. My car is a late spec G60, it has the later (slightly wider) body & narrow G60 axles. I doubt ET15's would fit otherwise. Front wheels don't catch at all, which is good news. For the moment, until I fit my other axle, I've lifted & stiffened the rear suspension. Once I get rid of the bent axle, I can re-lower the car & the tyres won't catch at all.

The rear axle has a small amount of sideways adjustment. The brackets that bolt the whole assembly to the chassis have elongated bolt holes. Similar problem with mine, although that's because I have a slightly bent axle & ET15 wheels. :shock:

Lambda probe - not listed for the Corrado but was identical to my old one. GSF part no. 93032 £49.00 + vat Complete probe - comes with all wiring. plugs, etc.

Porting is where the inlet & exhaust "ports" of the cylinder head (in this instance) are enlarged. This usually involves port matching - making sure all the inlet ports are the same size/volume & also making sure that the exhaust ports are all the same size/volume. Polishing aids "flow" & is usually done on the exhaust ports only - inlet ports are left slightly rough to ensure that the air/fuel mix properly.

They should call it something different - the original Miura was a one-off, almost perfect sportscar design. Calling something else a Miura is just wrong.

The guy's in Sheffield have my direct line number, I assume that's your nearest branch. We don't yet list it as fitting G60's on our computer. :?

Possibly Norton have the answer - they've been making rotory engines for light aircraft for a few years now & even tried one in a motorbike.
