    drivers door problem

    Just an update - i've put the washers behind the upper hinge and this has solved the problem totally. Hinges have been oiled and then greased (maybe a bit of overkill). Now I dont cringe every time I close my door - its got a solid thunk - just like the passenger side.
  2. Nope, just when the water temp hits about 108C and the two cooling fans trip in, there's a kind of wheezing/hissing sound, which lasts until the fans trip out again. Location-wise is hard to describe as I cant stick my ear'ole down the passenger footwell when I'm stuck in traffic. It is of course related to the cooling circuit although I dont know what to check, and I'm a bit uncertain about opening some of the pneumatic actuation units or cooling circuit inside the car, just in case I dump a load of coolant in the cabin.

    Dial-face template

    Super looking dials Andi. Whats the best way to cut the slots for the 2 LCD screens without making the edges look ragged? Do you have a template with the slots cut as I don't want to remove the old dials, trace and cut the slots and then put the new ones in.

    Good point Bobbywhacker - I've got an E36 beamer (also 94 like the C) and the controls feel a LOT more solid. The covers in the C are a bit crap and look old (even tho VW "updated" them from the sliders) so if anyone has replaced them with another set (hopefully not with the green lights) I'd be interested to know.     LED dash lights

    How do you apply the same thing to the heater controls - I've got a 94 VR with the rotary dials and behind them there appears to be a green shaped filter to give the dials the green colour? They're also quite dim - what wattage are the bulbs and what should i replace them with? Switches are in general by filters which can be changed to the required colour. I'm thinking of red switches, red MFA and blue dash lights. Another thing - the green ring around the cigarette lighter - where can you get a red replacement? cheers
  7. Changed the header thank cap to the nice blue one, but it hasnt cured the noise. Had the glovebox and lower panel out on the weekend to sort out some rattles and there are two units behind the the lower panel which may be the cause. What are these and how best to check them? The reason why i think this is where the problem lies, is because there is nothing to hear when the bonnet is open and the engine running. Carpets re totally dry and there's no steam from the vents so (I hope!) the heater matrix is okay. Any comments/suggestions?
  8. Thanks for the tips. Im gonna take the car to a body shop and have the door checked. Yep, when you lift the lock side it moves up a few cm, although its impossible to see any movement at the hinges no matter how closely you look. The aircon needs to be regassed but I'd be surprised if that has anything to do with it especially as it wheezes only when the fans come on and off. Meanwhile, I'll try a new header tank cap, (from the stealers i presume?), and check the aux water pump. Just a general comment, came back from the gym and the car park was full of kitted up "hot hatches" and posemobiles- wannabes IMHO. My standard VR just looked effortlessly cool in front of them, even without lowered suspension and 17" alloys. I guess its a Corrado thing.

  10. Carpet seems fine at present, totally dry. How else could I check the matrix short of pulling th dash out and what would I need to look for?
  11. I checked the car today after sitting in traffic for about 1 hour on the way to work but I cant hear anything under the bonnet, even when the fans switch in and out. Most obvious noise is from inside the cabin but under the passenger side of the dash. Any ideas? Henny, Kevhaywire, Stevemac?

    Thanks a lot guys. Kevhaywire, I'll use the drawing (BTW where did you get this from and are there any more for various areas of the car?) and try the washer trick. If that doesnt work then I guess the bodyshop is the place to go. Strange as the mileage is low (49k) and it seems to have a FVWSH, but then again stealers probably dont do half the things they're supposed to. SAW, how did you remove the pins? Cheers

    drivers door problem

    I actually included this on one of my previous posts. The drivers door has dropped a little and you can feel the slack in it by lifting it from the bottom edge. I've tried loosening the door bolts, lifting the door and retightening but this hasnt done it. Nor has moving he door lock post downwards. Seems like it might be a worn door pin. If so whats the best way to sort it, and where can I get a pin from? Its quite bad in that when you close the door it bangs on the locking pin (doors are pretty heavy) and I usually end up closing it VERY gently to avoid the bang. Appreciate some help here guys.

    You got an auto too Henny? The green filter that MikeVR6 has mentioned is actually a formed unit in green, which I PRESUME gives a green tint. Don't know how easy it will be to replace, or get another one made, so its not a simple as the dash lights

    Next prob My VR is an auto box. The light showing which gear has been selected is fused. I took the cover off over the weekend and the plastic casing allowing gear selection is green. Firstly, I want to change all the green dash lights to blue with the LCD displpay ones to red as per Hennys setup, but I dont want ot end up with everthiong blue and the tranny green. I've never seen the transmission light (fused when I got the car) so I'm assuming that this will also be green. If so, how can I change the colour to blue? BTW the bulb is a bummer to get out, i guess i need the holder plus bulb?
  17. Hi Guys Just joined the forum, but I've been checking it out over the past 4 months or so. Just got my VR about 2 weeks back - 49k on an M plate. Got a few little probs tho' Firstly, when temp hits about 108 there is a kind of hissing noise from the passenger side under the dash as the fans come on. It goes off as the fans stop so obviously something related to the cooling system? Any ideas and is this noise normal? The other thing is the drivers door hangs a little so when you close it it will hit the door pin and be lifted up by the pin. I've loosened the door bolts lifted the door and retightened but this hasnt solved it . Moving the door pin down as far as poss hasnt done it either. Maybe the door hinge pin has worn? If so how can I sort this one? It seems surprsing that after on 49k miles its hanging. Cheers
