    bottom cooling hose

OK cheers for that Kev. Maybe my explantion was not too clear - the problem is the removal of the bottom hose from the rad in order to flush it through. I couldnt do that and ended up removing the same bottom hose from the engine block BUT to do that I had to remove the battery. Additionally I cant see the drain plug - in fact I cant see the drain line. The Aircon heat exchanger is causing half of the problem i think as its been shoehorned into what is already a tight space. I've looked in ETKA and Bentley and it looks like its right behing the rad grille, but I'll be damned if I cant see it. Any pics from a little further away to see where it should lie?
  2. White j-plate 16valver, standard alloys, in Ruislip turning out of Sharps Lane towards the high street this morning at around 9.30am? Car looked in superb condition.
  3. I think dubbprince has done them. Drop him a pm. He's done some good dash mods in terms of leds and is well placed to advise of possible pitfalls.

    ABS ring repair

Simple enough I guess. Strangely the ABS light comes on initially (as usual) but then extinguishes after the 10 second period indicating no problem with the ABS.

Thanks for that Steve. I presume removal is the only way to clean them then? Based on VAGCOM and Bentley what would your diagnosis of the problem be?

    Leather repair/restorer

I'd be interested to know too. BTW has anyone used the Autoglym leather care products and do they get rid of the arterial cracks that dried leather is prone to? And does it give the nice leather smell?

    bottom cooling hose

Getting seriously p--ded off with this. A simple task that is just doing my head in - i'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Put the car on stands yesterday and had a look from underneath. Whilst I could see the bottom hose from above, the only way to access it was by removing the battery. All i could see from underneath was a plate going right across the chassis, but absolutely no way of getting to the lower hose. Anyway, I removed the expansion tank cap and pulled the lower hose from the engine block (end connected to the rad was totally inaccessible) and let it drain. Slow. Now the problem is that I want to fill with water and run the engine but of course the battery is out. WTF am I doing wrong? I thought of removing the diffuser-type grille below the bumper but looking through that all I could see was the aircon Heat exchanger so decided against it. In theory its easy to remove the lower hose, in practice, it seems, well, not so simple. Help guys, as I'm getting seriously narked off.

    ABS ring repair

Had a little look at the rotors, without taking the discs and calipers off but there were no visible cracks. I've just put the error codes into Bentley (should have done this before of course!). The report is as follows: VAGCOM: ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Front Right (G45) 04-00 - Mechanical Malfunction (also for rear left and rear right wheels) Bentley: Excessive or insufficient gap between speed sensor and pulse wheel (signal not OK) Whilst 2CC has given some useful info, I want to avoid taking everything apart if I can get away with something simple like removal and cleaning of the sensors. If that IS the case, how do you remove the sensors?

Dinkus, that interior is so ugly its not even funny!
  11. you're most welcome.
  12. If you do get no standard repeaters you can just stick tehm on with some cushioned double sided all around the edge. Just make sure the paint is properly cleaned. That s plenty strong enough to hold them but not too harsh that when you need to change the bulbs half the paint comes off.
  13. Try turning the variable resistor that controls the illumination up - on the headlight switch. It may have been turned down accidentally. (!!) :bounce2:

    ABS ring repair

2cc, many thanks bud. I'll have a bash (not literally!) this weekend and see if the rings are okay. Which other tools will I need as I dont want to get stuck in the middle with the wrong size sockets and allen keys!
  16. Hi VWCVR6, glad to see someone else has also changed to blue. Its quite simple, the angle of dispersion is not sufficient from the leds so although when you look at tehm straight on they seem bright they are unable to disperse the light fully. I presume you have just replaced the bulbs with single leds on the dash. The only way around it (which I will get round to in the summer probably) is to solder about 3 leds per clock (ie 9 in total) onto a pcb and mount this in place of your bulb holders. Dispersion is a mjor problem with leds unless you get the mega pricy ones. Even frosting has a limited effect. BTW, LEDs use almost no current and also do not generate any heat. 7000mcd is low, you need about 15000 (a guess) which you can get from multiple leds and I would suggest 5mm for the clocks anyway. HTH
  17. Utterly sublime. I place a lot of importance on interiors (hence several of my threads) and yours is truly superb. Would be nice to see some more pics. Well done and all the best.

    door membrane?

I'm confused on this one. How does the dynamat prevent water entering the car? I had the door cards off on teh weekend and taped up the membrane all around the edges, togehter with teh slots for the speaker and door lock rod. The membrane will still get wet on teh inside from water coming off the glass if it enters via the window wiper strip (which it will). So I guess you still need something on the INSIDE part of the door relative to the window. Some diags would hep re the Dynamatting. And Biggrim, are these dynamt codes? Thanks all. H

    ABS ring repair

Basically, how to do and what to look for. Pics would be useful. Thanks all.
  21. No, my tyres are pretty new. Some roads around my area have been recarpetted and are quite quiet, but I still get the noise. Actually, my main concern is doing the ABS rings, if anyone can help out. Might put a separate thread for that.

    Dash colours

Just had a look on the Foliatec website and they seem to have a range of sprays etc for the dash, wheel etc. with different textures, and apprently felxible and hardwearing. I'm thinking about changing the colour of mine as the black against the beige leather looks dull big time. I've also thought of covering some items in beige leather to match teh seats (probably the front console with the ash tray and heater controls). Any ideas on interior colour schemes? I cant remember the thread that someone had posted with a pic of a convertible C and a rust-coloured interior. Looked the nuts, even though it was far from teh dash. Can anyone post some nice dash pics as an idea? At the mo i find myself looking at every beige interior i see for ideas on colour schemes. strange....

    Dashboard Lights

Just a thought, if the green filter is replaced with a red one and the bulb is swopped for a higher wattage one (or a wide angle super high mcd led) that should provide decent enough illiumination (assuming the optics are ok). Anyone tried that at all? Or otherwise any comments? What are teh Zarman panels like as I cant tell much from the pic in your thread Lee? Come summertime I will be trying some new colours etc on the dash.

    Bonnet Vents

Yeah, Flusted is right, air is drawn OUT by lifting the rear of the bonnet. Simply because when the car is moving forward air flow is backwards relative to the car. The air above the gap in the bonnet is effectively pushed away leaving a quasi-vacuum, which pulls air out. Opposite effect if you're going in reverse though.
