Well I've driven a CTR when it first came out for a full tanks worth of miles and liked it! Regardless of peoples opinions, you have to accept they(Honda) are damn good engineers, and probably better than VW, does that mean there cars are better? course not. But when you see a 250bhp n/a CTR you know these guys know there shi*! I think with a VR it doesnt matter so much if you are a good driver or not, but to get the best out of the CTR you need to know your stuff, and on a track which is essentially what it's designed for,it is a very formiddable machine, just not as easily useable as a VR. I do sometimes wish the VR had slightly shorter 3rd and 4th gears.
-
probably not the best to comment, there are so many factors involved but I would definitley say the golf is slightly better mpg? I much prefer the Ibiza 1.8T try and get a KO3S turbo one, think there w reg and on.
-
does look very good condition, ditto interior but like you say, if you have more fun, then good for you. All I'm saying is I've been in a 200bhp Escort RS with modded suspension and the handling was a bit scary, maybe that adds to the excitement tho.
-
Not a chuftie but my old boss thought my VR was a Passat!!! FFS! If I cleaned her more often Im sure I would get more comments. I think part of the appeal is yes, it is rare, but also it is affordable, unlike Porsches etc. Just had the usual, "bet she's a bit quick" to which I give the obligatory "yea, not too bad"

Any pics of this Fiesta?? I can understand why you sold it, as it was an auto, it was prob more of a cruiser type car and your after something more 'fun' can't say I would buy and RS if I had £5k to spend tho.
-
what is this E38??? I thought you guys were talking about a BMW or soemthing for a while!!! LOL. Whats the date/location? cheers.
-
Nice one! a very wise choice of car, and 40k only!! I have 100k on you!!! LOOL. All u need to know is here
-
nice one, a spitting image of mine I might add! just hope you persevere with her if she causes trouble like so many of us have expereinced, bit like having a very nice/pretty but expensive g/f! Oh yea, think we've done that thread already! Hopefully you will keep the grin, if not, start modding!

MMM, sounds nice, I have noticed how the VR engine does sound a lot different at WOT even at as low as 2.5k, I wouldn't do it below that because might strain the engine a bit, hopefully the exhaust would compliment that. I was on the M20 the other day tho, just cruising at 70 and a very similar Corrado to mine (black K reg) overtook me, but I was actually in the slow lane and couldn't tell wether his was a VR oe not, but his exhaust sounded a bit pikey and kinda put me off a bit, he must of been doing over a tonne tho.

Ooh er, well, if you are sure the Magnex is quiter than the Miltek? damn, I really wanted to keep my VR all original and don't want to make the mistake of buying some chavy boy racer style exhaust again. So when does the noise on the Magnex start to get loud? at what revs?
-
hmm, money is an issue which is why I will prob go down this route of Koni dampers with H&R springs- so you think I could pick them up for about £300? then just need the discs and pads which shouldn't be much, then the Miltek, when will it ever stop?? actually, don't answer that, LOL.
-
Yea, mine kinda feels a bit like that, have you ever changed old VAG suspension for new (VAG) ones Dinkus? because I do a fair few miles, I want to keep the ride a bit on the soft side but I'm looking to do a few changes, hence my above post that will make me like my VR a bit more.
-
uh oh, some how I think I may be reading for some time! LOL. Think I'm going to have to get new suspension (VAG) and discs and pads aswell.
-
Yea, mine are definitley shagged, the car definitley judders over bumps and skips around a bit. Just a case of deciding what kit to get, powerflex, and if so how many bushes?

Possible Turbo & Supercharged Golf coming out!!!!
samm_cvr6 replied to Spykee's topic in General Car Chat
OK- But there are times when it makes a lot of sense to get a derv, ie, say your about 19 and you want a decent car, with a limit of group 7 insurance, you can get a Saxo VTR, or you can get an Ibiza 130PD and remap it, I know what I'd get. I guess the point is, if your looking for something good on fuel, it's better to get a modern turbo diesel and remap it than a modern petrol, but it's not as big a difference as somepeople would have you believe. -
Haha! guess you've probably heard them all a thousand times! LOL

Dr Mat, as usual you hit the nail on the head. I drive my VR 100 miles per day and always get 33mpg+=500miles per tank, but the forst 10 minutes or so I always change up gear really early, like 2k so as not to stress the engine, then by the time I hit the motorway, I let rip! and 33+mpg often includes taking it over a tonne LOL. The VR does have tall gearing and you can leave it in 5th at 40 so long as you dont boot it below about 2k revs. I think Jim has a good point tho, his golf is second hand so he hasn't really paid ouot the brand new premium, but there is plenty more to come from petrol technology, vvt and direct injection, think the new clio will have a 1.2T kicking out 100+bhp and 45mpg. One good thing about these diesels say over a VR tho is they remap very well, which no one has pointed out, so all of a sudden a PD130 has 170-180bhp, where as a remapped VR ain't even worth it the gains are so low. -
Try to steer clear of peugeots these days but had a very nice 205 1.9 gti I had a very soft spot for. People keep mentioning this 306 TD, how much do you reckon I can pick one up for?? Just don't want one thats been abused by some moron,LOL.also tempted by the mk3 golf tdi. Don't get me started on the sheep sha**er jokes, you prob know them anyway, no offence. What do yuo call a sheep tied to a pole??
-
No I like it, just wondering where you got it, and where it is from-character wise. And who had the sheep then?? now I'm lost, lol.
-
Sounds alright! I'm in same position but I don't think VR prices are that high right now, maybe due to high petrol prices, but I get about 33mpg on a 50 mile run in to work, and that ain't grannying it!
-
I'm sure it will be fine, it's just I went to quite a notorious secondary school (Holland Park, West London) it's not so bad now tho. I think teaching must be quite cool, I certainly wouldn't rule it out, and all those holidays! Yea just be careful, I remember when I was doing art A level, one of my mates sha**ed the female teacher! HAHAHA! They will prob think your quite cool aswell when they see you roll up in the G60!
-
The Goat! whats the story there?? Hope the students don't give you too much jip! I remember when I was at that 15-16 age and people used to get so cheeky to the teachers. And seeing the girls flirt with the teachers was always funny too!
-
Alex, whats with the new avator?? looks funny but kind of freaky!? LOL. Be careful being a teacher, are you a teacher at a University?? if not, then whats the prob with tseeing a girl from Uni?? Damn nanny state!! The toyota will undoubtedly last longer, and it has a better engine, but it prob doesn't look or handle as good, but I like the Starlet cos there not everywhere and a bit diffrent aswell, basically, I'll prob just get whatever bargain comes my way.
-
I'm sure it was a BP!! and I dont think it was on the side where you come off the motorway(south side) so I think it must of been north of the town centre if my bearings serve me correctly. Nout wrong with student towns ya know! plenty of poking going on in that town with the students there, I remember I met this lovely bird at the student uni and she like me but I had way too many snake bites and I ended going back to her minga mates room!!! Damn!!!! oh well, we live n learn. LOL
-
Can't for the life of me remember where it was, all I remember is there house was very close to a petrol station, kindof on the crest of a small hill and on the main ish road that leads to the town centre. Kingsthorpe does seem to ring a few bells tho. I was told it's a bit of a student town and goes a bit dead in the summer, maybe a good thing tho!
