Just took receipt of my Corrado after it's rebuild, I had pretty much everything done including new cams, timing belt and chains etc and wow, the car feels much better than it did before, quicker and even smoother. I forgot how nice the Corrado looks aswell, when I saw it at the garage after a week there, it really stood out from the rest of the cars (although they were all pretty crap) The mechanic said he was looking for one a while ago and went to see 3 VR6's and it was nice to hear that he said mine was better than the others. Who knows what the other ones were like but being a mechanic you would think he wouldn't bother looking at one if it was only average!? The mechanic said he has also driven a Mitsi GTO and he thought my Corrado was quicker! obviously this is not true but maybe he was testing a GTO loosing boost etc...

I had 35mpg from norfolk to london- but at 120 I am lucky to get 20mpg. I would of thought that at speeds over 80, the VR6 would return the best economy. I have recently bought one of these fuel saver devices (not the eco tec one which did actually work on my previous car), I'm a bit of a sucker for gadgets. I haven't fitted it yet and not even sure if it will work at all but will review it once I have done about 1,000 miles with it. Apparently it is also good for the engine as it reduces carbon deposits...

true, doesn't look quite as good as a Corrado and the alloys look too small for the car but you have to admit, in a straight line it would easily out accelerate a Corrado VR6, you can have it up to 280bhp very easily and they are dirt cheap second hand.. I'm not convinced that VRS has 225bhp, the 180bhp has a smaller turbo than the KO4 225 unit so would not be so receptive to chipping, anyone shed any light??
-
I thought the Octavia RS was 180bhp anyway? I think I would enjoy driving this Skoda as most people will still stigmatize it and think it's crap like they probably think the Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo is crap cos "it's a fiat" just gives you more pleasure when you fly past cars that cost twice the price! 8)

LOL. I have hefty bills coming up, insurance, engine rebuild, tax, mot and the coilovers and discs I have to get, I will be looking at £3,000. My boss was trying to persuade me to buy his Citroen C3 HDI, bless him, In his words "It don't half move you know, 70mph up poll hill, 70mpg and £100 tax and £300 insurance" but he got a bit of a wake up call when he realised the difference between "a nippy car" ie, (good in 1st and 2nd gear which is useless anyway) as I glided past him, like cutting thru cheddar cheese. I hadn't even got to 3k rpm yet aswell!

yea, think the front looks just plain ugly but the back is very smooth! Probably the last thing I would do if I were to spend the kind of dosh he has lashed out on that thing, just looks like a Leon, and unlike the Corrado they are common as muck!

I am looking out for a Polo 1.4 TDI for the girlfriend, anyone driven one of these? She doesn't know yet, but I will be tinkering away with a few sweet subtle mods! 8)

Think the A8 Alloys have 12 spokes and they do them in 16-19s!!
-
The Audi A8 alloys look nice and they do them in 17s. Does anyone know if they are as light as the standard Corrado speedlines? or has anyone driven a Corrado with both?
-
Sorry, I meant UK naturally aspirated MR2'S. But a mark 1 MR2 Turbo will not keep up with the fiat 20v Turbo, although a rev3 MR2 Turbo would beat it, the MR2 Turbo doesn't accelerate nearly as smoothley as the Corrado VR6 or Fiat tho.IMO of FWD cars, the integra type R is still number one, the steering and the handling are razor sharp, almost too much! I think the bad stigma about Fiat's being unreliable is untrue, my girlfriend has a Fiat Uno, in 3 years of driving the car every day, it has never broken down, had no electrical faults and started every time without fail.
-
I almost bought one of these but in the end went for the Corrado. Strainght line speed is stonking, 1/4 mile in 14 dead I believe! What put me off the Fiat was the build quality is poor and the handling, refinement and noise of the VR6 is far better. I also nearly bought a late Nissan 200 Touring which also has a very tuneable turbo lump and RWD! The MR2 Turbo is very tempting but there seems to be a hell of a lot on the roads (although they are mainly UK ones) and the boy racers seem to be tanishing it's image. Depends what you prefer? If it's straight line speed get a Fiat If the feel, build quality and handling are you'r thing, then don't.
-
There is definitley more demand for the 20v turbo right now as opposed to the 46 4motion lump. Ben I would of thought you would be leaving R32's with the kind of set up you have! :)
-
Yea spoke to a few mechanics as unfortunatley there is no way I could take this on, even if I knew how I just don't have enough time, most of them will be very reluctant to fit a second hand/used engine due to nightmare stories. One mechanic in particular made a point of saying in his words how the 20v turbo is "a pile of sh*t!". I think he was referring to all the troubles and complaints he had from customers re bent valves and timing belts snapping all the time. This took me as a suprise as I had always thought it was quite a robust engine!? 8)
-
oh engine that is not the whole car of course! lol
-
I only wish I coould afford the R32 engine but I unfortunatley it is pipe dreams for me! been offered a v64motion thru the net for £400+vat but will have to make sure it is a good one as seems a bit cheap!?
-
I think they are cool, will look much better on the C than the Octavia as it is a smaller car, I would be very tempted to put them on the C! 8)
-
Yea, I will see how confident my mechanic is, as far as I'm aware, it is just the ecu and bosch injection system I will be shelling out for in addition to the engine, to get the VR6 to 225bhp will cost a lot where as it is much easier with the turbo lump, so may be cost effective, and surely the value of the car will go up by sourcing a new lump far more than if I keep the old VR6 lump. I think if the rebuild costs more than£1,500 I will just go ahead and get the 1.820v turbo and if less then go ahead with rebuild. Anyone rebuilt there VR6 recently? how much? 8)

I am looking into an engine conversion for my VR6 since it needs a rebuild anyway and has covered 134k miles. I have searched the net and found one person who has done this (tho I know others have too) and he has suggested that the 150bhp lump is the best one to go for because it is easy to tune, is this right? I don't know much about this engine but from what I have read the 225bhp version is certainly more receptive to ecu re-maps. I have been offered the 225 version with only 3k miles for £1,950+vat. I have also seen the 180bhp version advertised with 17k miles, ecu, keys, steering column and clocks for £975, will it work out cheaper to buy the 150bhp which is likely to be much cheaper and then tune it?? It will be a shame to lose the awesome sound of the VR6 but I thought that this will be made up in improved drivability due to the 1.8 20v being a lighter block?? I have heard of companies like TSR and stealth but they are about 200 miles away from me, will a good local VW mechanic be up to this job?? :D
-
Oh I see, well, let us know when you have it running. btw, how much did your 1.8 20v cost to buy? was it 180 or 225bhp version? and how much to fit? just trying to get as much info as possible
-
what is you'r car running like bigger ben? must be pretty mental, 225 better than vr6? :?
-
Yea, it happened all within a few miles, usually I am cruising at 1,500 revs or so on the way to work apart from the occasion when I drop down to t hird to overtake and rev it up! Anyway, I had detected the tale tale white smoke on occasion, particularly in second gear for some reason, tho this was not very obvious, you had to look out for it. I left Orpington and by the time I had got to Bromley I knew something was majorly wrong with her, It's not like I was abusing or neglecting the car at all, I think it's time had just come, 134k on the clock, sump plug is fine :| , no oil loss there, I even topped up with a litre of oil before I left work aswell!
-
not sure, presumably this is in the manual? if so I will dig it out and see what it says...
-
I think this is serious guys, engine sump is bone dry and I have very recently filled it right up with synta silver, I think it must of been misfiring, the oil certainly wasn't leaking from anywhere else. Anyway I have been offered so far a 20v turbo 225 from a 51 reg car with just 3,500 miles for £1,900+vat. But like you say, I will definitley get a second opinion.
-
After hearing a very dodgy noise from my Corrado and the fact that the thing pulled about aswell as a Robin reliant alarm bells were ringing that there was something majorly wrong with her. So out comes this recovery truck company who do work for the aa, the guys English was pretty bad so I thought, "oh here we go" he looked at the engine for about 10 seconds and told me I need a rebuild, valveseals, pistons and gaskets I think? So I said "are you absolutley sure thats right" he laughed and said that he also has a Corrado, although his is kicking out 500bhp, naturally I laughed in his face but it seems that the guy really knows his stuff. He has a 20v turbo lump with nos and I can't remember what else due to his broken English but I got the impression that weather or not it has 500bhp, it is a mean machine I have to see, he told me he has spent £30k on the car!, the Corrado is yellow and he is always at the Aces Cafe meets, anyone seen it? His brother (who coincedently was the driver for the truck that towed me away!) said that he can get me a golf vr6 engine, p reg, low miles for £450-£500, but what about the drop in power? He reckons it will be £1,500-£2,000 for the rebuild and I may be better off with a new lump although his quote of £200 to fit the engine did seem a little conservative? so I'm looking out possibly for a 225 20v turbo engine or possibly even the new 2.0tdi which I don't think anyone has fitted to a Corrado yet? or atleast not that I've heard of. I know there is one or 2 people on here that have the 20vturbo lump i there Corrado, whats it like compared to the VR6?, does the extra power outweigh the VR6's smoothness, refinement and sound? cheers guys.

ive got a black corrado, not sure if it's metallic tho...
