Had a similar problem with mine although I didn't leave it for as long as you did so I suspect you'r problem may be related to the above mentioned. But, have you checked the alternator? perhaps more importantly the wires on the alternator, they may well have corroded. Mine is a K 92/3 and the leads were corroded.5 minute job although there is so little space in the VR engine you will probably have to use the extension on the socket set to get in there.

SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STi-It's mine!!! TEST DRIVE PICS

I prefer the light blue/ice colour Impreza. The C does look better but then the Impreza is probably a lot quicker so depends what you prefer I guess. -
I think it depends what sort of car you have, performance cars will be far more receptive to a good spark plug than small engine cars so it's pointless having a corrado with crap spark plugs, but in my experience bosch &NGK have been good, not sure about split fire but would be interested in t esting them.

Very nice looking black G60 with nice alloys in Tonbridge high street last tuesday around 12noon.
-
yea probably closer to 6k but modified ones always seem to fetch less money than standard ones for some reason....
-
whats the improvement and price over the standard? and any cons to it? I want more power but don't really want to go down the head/cam road. ta 8)

Surely if you have a really good suspension set up on a Corrado it will handle aswell as the Leon R/S3? Out of the two I think I would go for the Leon R, although I think the S3 definitley looks better. £14k can get you a hell of a lot of a car if on the second hand market these days, what about a mint E36 M3 EVO?

SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STi-It's mine!!! TEST DRIVE PICS

just filled out the form. Does appointment just mean you go and pick it up? because it didn't have a box next to it like the others saying "24 hour test drive". Fingers crossed, I fancy giving it a bit of a thrash for 24 hours and seeing what it can do... -
no sh*t, I wnet online and just sent the details off on a few auto spares sites. I did query this with the guy on the phone but he just said it's because there's a far greater demand for the 1.8t due to it being fitted in more of the VAG cars. I couldn't find anyone to fit it at the time
-
was quoted £1,900 for a 225bhp one with 5k done. Was also quoted £400 for a V6 4Motion engine. There is obviously much more demand for the 1.820v, so might be worth looking at the V6?

I've heard that Bridgestone Potenza 020's I think are the best? I'm looking for new tyres also but couldn't find these for my Corrado on the net, anyone know anywhere else I can get them?
-
I had a 205 GTI (3 years) also which I have to say was an amazing little car(especially when you'r kicking out 180bhp in a 900kg car!), you can push it round corners easily as hard as the Corrado but it's not as forgiving when it goes, come to think about it, you usually have little idea when it will start oversteering, and mine did! The understeer was also good fun. If I was looking for a similar car now I would go with the Clio Cup. I went in a friend of mine's a few months back, all I can say is OMG! Unlike a lot of small Hot Hatches this thing never runs out of steam, it pulls like a train! The handling is sharp and you can chuck it probably better than anything on the road as it is so light. Careful for the rear end jacking up tho! (no abs!) I think he has tuned his to over 200bhp now so I can't wait to go in it again! P.S talking of Rental cars, I was very suprised to find that in a Toyota Yaris 1.0 56mph! can be had in second gear! LOL
-
oh yea, that would be the 204 bhp 2.8 v6 they dropped in the mk4 golf v64motion? If you are in U.S you wil no doubt prefer the VR6, but don't bother with the auto box, it's a pile of crap!
-
The Golf VR6, so I am told is actually a different VR6 engine, it is 2.8 as opposed to the Corrado's 2.9 and offers 174bhp compared to the Corrado's 190. Both have 2 valves per cylinder so 12 valves. Not sure about the Passat but pretty sure it is a 2.8 version. For some reason tho I have heard that the Corrado VR6 offers better economy than the Golf version, I get almost 30mpg out of mine!
-
get a third party opinion, I almost kidded myself into buying a Corrado just cos I wanterd one so much, yea black, best colour!
-
yea, the transmission in the Pulsar is the weak link, gearboxes and clutches always going, not helped by the fact that most get thrashed around like no-ones business, oh and the intercooler is on top of the engine!
-
Not that I'm aware of, it is a detuned version of the Pulsar GTI-R so is pretty much bomb proof as long as you change the oil etc and I'm sure the Pulsar one a rally in the early 90's with this engine?? For any of you who have driven a Pulsar, you will know how good the engine is. I'm sure it actually has slightly more torque, even dettuned than a Corrado VR6! It's a veryunderstated car but is massive in the 'drift' community who are mad about it. Apparently 260bhp is very easily had without loss of driveability/reliability(it's got a LSD!) in which case it should hit 60 in around 5.5!. The interior is easily as nice as a Supra, a step up considering most japs although highly specced, don't have briliant interiors. If anything happens to my Corrado, I will defo get one of these, until I can afford an M3 Evo that is!

exactly, like anything, if it has been looked after, chances are it will last well (as long as you don't thrash the nuts off it!) Modded G60's seem to be going quite cheap these days, I nearly bought a stage4 one but like most people, I bottled it, hence why they are quite cheap. It does not necessarily mean the car has been abused just because it has been modded, sometimes the opposite. Just look at as many as you can. Ditto mileage worries, I bought mine off a lady owner who had it for 5 years, 135k and pulls as well as any other I had tested!
-
£4k can probably get youa a decnt VR6 now but you will probably have to bide you'r time looking for one. I would suggest looking at and testing all of them so you really know the difference and what you are buying. very well chosen car tho! good luck!

I have dabbled with turbos but in the end it has to be N/A all the way for me. I have a stock Corrado VR6, having covered a fair few miles and being rebuilt the engine is stronger than ever but I wouldn't say the handling is amazing due to this.(getting up rated tyres, coilovers and brakes next year, probably with poly bushes!) but the car is very steady and offers very good feel of how hard you can push it(no suprises unlike some cars!) I would have to s ay the integra type R is the best front wheel driven car I have tried but this is outweighed by the way the VR6 delivers it's power(more useable) I'm sure the performance isn't quite in the RX7 league but I don't think you will be disappointed as the car has a really nice feel to it, a drivers car It's reliable, well built, will hold it's value very well, can get 30+mpg sometimes on a run. I bought the car over a late spec Nissan 200 touring and fiat coupe 20v turbo!
-
Mine has a similar problem, the engine seems to be pulling stronger than ever after being rebuilt but it randomly stalled 3 times in one day and has not done it since, I suspect it may be a lambda sensor? How much do you think it costs? I'm sure you may be losing power if the cam sensor is out, and as a result you may lose a few mpg but nothing as major as you described, more likely to be running too rich which will also effect performance.

saw a picture of the new TT today, and it looks good. I think the problem with this car is that it has been stigmatized, similar to how the 911 was supposedly driven by s  tockbrokers in the 80's. It seems to have been a victim of it's own success and now it is almost a cliche to have one which is a shame as I'm sure there are far worse cars. I seem to remember it being placed in the very uncool section by top gear (not that that means a lot) I do get the feeling that Audi has really milked the TT as much as they can,I mean bringing out a 150bhp version is surely only for wanabe posers?

How fast have you had out of your standard VR?
samm_cvr6 replied to VRev6's topic in General Car Chat
I can p**s atleast 5"6, tho that requires a few pints before hand! My VR is completley standard and I have 'only' just gone over 130. To be honest the car still feels very refined at 120, the steering starts to get light at 130 and until I put performance tyres, suspension and brakes I'm not going over that. I know of a few private roads but you will be lucky to get past 2nd gear as there so bumpy (residents are too stingy to lay out on new tarmac) I'm sure that when most the people on here talk about 'private roads' it is just a joke but there are obviously a few who go to track days/air fields etc... One guy at work has got a Kawasaki Ninja 600, he reckons he gets atleast 150 out of it every day on way to work (6am) all it has is a performance can. Another guy has an R1 and has said he has had 177 out of it! Judging by the way I see them pull out of work every day, I don't think they are bull s******g me! -
yea, trouble is, I can never use the excuse that I haven't got much cash for holiday (when I am planning what to do to the Corrado) as the girlfriend knows and is quick to reply "yea but you have spent 5k on you'r car" get out of that one!! One guy at work thinks it's a scirocco and calls me "sammy scirocco" even though he has seen my car every day for over a month! I don't want to p**s on his bonfire tho! it's so funny!

wow! not sure if that thing will be able to pass yu once you have accounted for however many hundred kilos the body kit and drag causes! it looks awful! but respect for having the balls to carry out the job..
