My mate has just had to change the alternator on his MK2 Golf driver and popped down the scrappies! They sold him a MK3 Golf 90Amp alternator, whereas his original was only 65Amps. Is this a problem or in fact a better thing all in all?
-
Why don't you take it back to him and complain that there is still noise from the front??
-
It was in the end a 6 but they couldnt be undone because a previous garage had worn out the alan key heads and they were ruined. He took it to a garage and they persuaded them undone - all inside 2 hrs!! lol cheers for the help as always :)

Hi chaps trying to change the brake discs on a Mk2 Golf driver and have fallen at the first hurdle. Trying to loosen the alan key that retains the calipers and I can't tell what size the alan key needs to be. I have a 6 and an 8 and cant find a 7 - Halfords didnt have any 7's in stock and didnt know what size it should be. Anyone here know?? :) Cheers Nick

bloody hell! How did the wheel fall off?? Was that at speed??

Henny's brilliant switch replacement instructions: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... 95&start=6

yeah - I swear it is the ignition switch. It may be brown with a red strip and is not that thick (if it is the switched) Switch is in the steering column (under the cowling). There are detailed notes on changing them on this forum.

I dont think it was black. Can't remember tbh - may have been brown. I shorted mine by leaving the stereo on whilst negotiating it back into the hole... lol! Silly fooo, I know. Do check all the fuses, if it works on permanent live but not on switched, you have found the prob

They arent expensive either and are a common fault on all vw's - mine was £15 from stealer IIRC

Oh I think it's definitely worth the grief mate! I adored my Mk2 16v but wouldnt swap my C for it by any means. I really don't think it is built like s**T :?
-
ignition switch I think. This EXACT same thing happened to me!!
-
saw a dark coloured C - sorry couldnt tell!!! Could've been green - waves were exchanged. Appx 6.45pm tonight on the A505 - I was heading towards M11 - the other C was en route to Royston. Anyone here? :)

worth noting too that VW s handbook figure of 6.9 was for 0-62mph (for what its worth) so I guess mid 6's is accurate...
-
The specs on there (0-60) aren't favourable nor factory for the VR6!! In fact - the unofficial EVO figures are 6.2 secs - 1 sec difference. I thought factory was 6.7 or something?
-
YEAH! That's exactly what we did!! :D
-
nice one, Kev! Appreciated.
-
Any idea what the definite torque is for this and I will get it done?
-
Exactly - at the end of the day - at least we got it back on. LOL When the birds started singing this morning, I panicked that we weren't going to get it back on! At one point I took the driveshaft off on the drivers side - as I had removed the main hub bolt - is it okay to put it back on or should I have replaced it. I have done it up very tight again.... :?
-
Kev - NO it was NOT easy!!! lol Are you sure you weren't referring to the inner CV on the MK2 ;) Took us absolutely ages because we couldnt get the joint out once bolts were undone! It wouldnt drop down because it didnt have clearance (bashed on the wishbone/Axle) So we ended up removing the CVjoint up through the top of the bay and then remove the shaft from below. WE got stuck trying to fit a new CV joint from above. Started last night at 7pm - finished today at 4am - I dont know how!! lolvvvvv tired now. What were we doing wrong I wonder :!: :?:   :(

Cat Heat shield (Lower) VR6 - missing - is it necessary?

Must have been why they removed mine, too then! I will always avoid that long grass! :) -

okay nice one - why did you remove yours by the way? -
Does anyone know a good alloy wheel restorer?
Nick_Micouris replied to DEL VR6's topic in General Car Chat
yeah the ones I have seen don't have the sparkle of the oem ones. I guess you can never get them back to how they were meant to look without buying brand new rims, eh! -
Nice one - thanks a lot mate :)

when wheels get refurbed, do they still paint them in the same colour as the manufacturers do? I.e. the pearlescent silver? I have seen some done and they are just in non-pearlescent silver and they dont look the same.
