  1. Not sure if this is an engine or drivetrain thing so feel free to move it to where it belongs! Having just bought my VR I
  2. Cheers 8) Yeah, I love the Speedlines too - very hard to improve on IMO unless you spend big bucks on split BBSs or summat. About 100 times easier to clean too!
  3. Picked up the VR yesterday and drove the 80 odd miles back. It felt really good and pulls really nicely. The noise is also highly addictive - although I'm sure it'll wear off after having to fill up again; £67!!!! (and that was 95 RON) After going to the Pistonheads Sunday Service meet this morning (and being the only 'Rado there) I gave her a good going over with a Megs clay bar, some Zymol Cleaner Wax and some "Wet n' Black" trim detailer. Who thought of that name? The wheels are in OK condition but could really do with a re-furb. I'll have them off soon and get the baked on brake dust off with some Wonder Wheels. It's not a product I use regularly but every few months it really gets the hard stuff off. I'll also treat the leather. Next up a trip to JMR for a check over, oil and coolant change, Lupo wipers and headlight mod :) (and hopefully nothing else!)
  4. Such a minefield! Shame VW couldn't have got it right first time!
  5. Thanks guys. With regard to HID- any links to where to buy a decent set should I decide to go down that route?
  6. When I take delivery of my new Rado I'll be needing an uprated loom for my "candles". I used to get mine from H100VW but he's long gone now I think! Where's the most reliable place to get a decent loom which is nicely sealed from the elements?
  7. I saw you last year near Bromley in the Golf :-) The car's had a fair bit spent on it at Voodoo. They did the top end rebuild on the engine - it's had new chains, tensioner, and valve guides done. Presumably the HG went as it seems to be a common VR problem on higher mileage engines.
  8. Ooo, that's interesting. Would be nice to hear about its history (although it's come with so much paperwork)
  9. Cheers guys - can't wait to get my hands on it. It's got KW Variant 1 coilies and the ride is absolutely superb - almost factory but turn -in's super sharp. There's nothing I want to do to it really although I need to think about stereo. It's dire at the moment. I'd like some Audioscape pods but they're £200! The leather's in time-warp condition too. I can't wait to get it home and get busy with the Zymol!
  10. I just bought this VR: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/364799.htm I'm picking it up on Saturday. Plan are limited to Lupo wipers, a headlamp loom and probably some new tyres. I'll take it to JMR soon for a once over and an oil change - the ABS light is also on. I'll post some of my own pics up once I take delivery and polish her up!
  11. I'd defiinitely go for a 968 too. I tempted at the moment but there are too many other things happening. I'd get the Sport- more of a compromise between the "normal" on and the CS.
  12. Sounds like a good idea. If the calendar is anything to go by I don't think you'd have any shortage of takers here!
  13. My other half bought me an A2 print done by this guy for Christmas and it's fantastic. I've since bought 3 of his 6x6 inch cards which I've put in our study after having decorated. Have a look... http://www.peterhuttonillustrator.com/index.html Nice chap too. :)
  14. You didn't do something as simple as leave you sidelights or interior light on did you?
  15. That's Tunbridge Wells for you! When we had all the high petrol prices last year it was a station just outside town which actually got on the national news for the highest prices in the country. Their diesel there the other day was 109.9!

    Gearbox Rebuild

JMR sourced me a 70K mile second hand G60 box for £195 which I didn't think was too bad. Filled up with VAG synthetic gear oil and a new VR clutch the car never shifted so sweetly!
  17. That Alfa engine is an absolute peach! The noise is to die for
  18. I had this too: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33957&p=380998&hilit=#p380998

  20. Just use white spirit. Works fine and you've probably already got some.
  21. It could be worth a bob or two if it comes with the rare Karmann interior ;-)
  22. All marque specific mags seem to be a bit comic-like. They great if you want to sit on the throne for 5 minutes and look at some pretty pictures but in terms of insightful editorial they's distinctly lacking. Anyone can write that so and so has fitted this engine and that suspension so make it faster and handle better but they never take the cars out and actually test drive them. Still, so many of the show cars are so compromised that after half a mile down the road you'd end up with loose teeth and a cracked sump!
  23. Awesome rebuild thread. Looks like it's coming together really well :)
