Sounds just like my local dealers Andy, absolutely shockingly bad. I overheard a conversation last week whilst I was in Peter Coopers(VW dealer in Portsmouth) too. It was from a guy with an R32 who had steering vibration at 75mph. I thought ok thats probably just a wheel out of balance, no problem, just balance them up, quick suspension check perhaps. No. Vw service man has to speak to VW manager, tells him the problem, they then get a handful of "mechanics" involved. Then they speak to the guy on the phone again. Sorry sir because your problem is exhibited above the national speed limit for this country we won't be able to look at the fault for you. We can offer a full allignment but we need the car for the day and its going to cost over £100. Hmm (I'm thinking just take the car to any tyre dealer and get the wheel/s balance for a tenner). Awful service. They're prepared to sell a car capable of over 150mph but aren't interested in faults that occur at half of that speed. My dealers are shite, some of their parts people have asked me to spell Corrado, they ask me for the registration number every time to make sure they get the right (wrong usuallly) part. They won't take payments over the phone so I have had to drive a 25 mile round trip to prepay for a washer costing pence. Then back again when they've ordered it. grrrrr

The gap (wheelarch to tyre) is massive on later cars, post 94 I think. Its very unlikely a dealer would have fitted a non-VW part and its also very unlikely that anyone would fit higher than standard springs.. I reckon yours is standard. Post up a picture if you can mate.
-
Nope, you can have either dizzy or coil pack OBD1 Golfs or Corrados.
-
Some earlier ones did, pre coilpack.
-
2nd opinion required there mate, bottom end very unlikely to be f**ked if it was ok on a test run. Either you're wrong or they're talking sh1te about the bore glazing too.
-
You don't get vented rears normally do you?
-
Is offset of 43 correct for a VR6 or would I need spacers?
-
Imo its the fact that the dealers don't want the work on the older cars, they price it so high that it's their compensation for doing a job they'd rather not do. Outrageous though.
-
No you're reading that wrong, that is showing 650 ish rpm. The thick line below the needle is 500 rpm.

Trying to find out the weight of a 16 inch 7J BBS RX2 wheel, and comparison with standard 15 inch Speedline. Anyone?
-
Anyone here had a thermostat pack in on them while driving?

Yep its happened to me within the last year. Not uncommon, don't like the way they fail "unsafe". -
Yep, saw that this morning at the A3/M27 junction. Registration MX05FBK
-
I should have said, I lowered the car last year and ran with the compensator in the 'normal' position, but as I was replacing it I thought I should do things more scientifically. If its just trial and error as you say mike then I'll try that. Thanks.

In the process of changing my rear bushes, I've got a new rear brake compensator to go on. I've heard people say that the compensator needs setting differently on a lowered car, how should I set it?

I just want to keep my existing panel without having to spend an arm and a leg on corrado sunroof components. If I can use passat bits with my roof panel I'll be well happy..
-
Just looked at some old photos and yes my rears have the closer wound coils at the top, so yes they are the other way round to the fronts.
-
Not sure about the rears off the top of my head but regarding the front my closer wound coils are pretty much touching too. What you have to remember is that the supension has to extend as well as compress. The touching coils are there imo to extend when the wheel goes down a dip and the suspension has to extend to retain overall stability.

Henny does that mean if I use a Passat Sunroof Chassis with Corrado panel it will be a perfect fit?
-
No thats the right way round mate, you can't really get them on the other way up, the coil diameter is vastly different top to bottom.
-
I've got a 3 year old Clio as a 2nd car and it has different warning lights on everytime you drive it. Airbags and engine sensors. Getting there though, so far reliable and very cheap to run.
-
Yep, new housings are only £25 from the Stealership, cheaper still from GSF. Just break it and get a new one, you have no choice by the sound of it.
-
Yeah I know the panel doesn't seal in the roof, it sounded like these guys were using washers between the sunroof chassis and the roof of the car which can't be ideal.

Extremely common with 206s, Watchdog did a long peice on it. Try google. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q= ... CcountryGB There's so much info about it out there. Also the 206 forum. http://www.206info.co.uk/

I never use anything else. I get an extra 2mpg over 95 RON but no noticeable performance difference. 2mpg is well worth the extra few pence a litre imo.

Sounds like a plan to me, you can get Golf roofs for £40 easily, you reckon the water plate guides etc are the same profile and its just the panel, deflector and pins that need swapping?? Bargain.
