I struggle to beleive they can possibly tell speed to any great acuracy, the ground temperature, tyre temperature, age/condition/tread pattern/pressure etc must be big factors.
-
Did they do you for speeding?

I would expect those sort of comments from a BMW driver tbh. They generally think they're a cut above the rest. I think BMWs are fantastic cars (318/320 aside perhaps) but I can't bring myself to own one as it's instant membership to the biggest group of T*ssers on the road.

Yeah. Happy with that. I can forget what happened if its all done properly in the end. We'll see! The chap that fitted it yesterday came out with all the usual, what a lovely car routine, I always wanted one of these, bet that shifts etc etc. How could he bodge it so badly I wonder, its criminal.
-
Well I've been and complained. The first chap agreed it was substandard but was full of excuses; The weather was too hot! and expansion was obviously an issue They're using new mastic Corrados are pigs to do Corrados should be done at the depot The trim is substandard....etc etc Like I care!! He then got the manager who agreed instantly it was a dreadful job, he was horified and agreed on the spot to redo the whole job at my conveneince, to include new screen and completely new scuttle panel. They want it for a day next time which is cool with me as long as it comes back perfect....

Not owned one but have heard very good things about the mk2 gtd.

Had my screen changed by Autoglass yesterday. I know they're a bitch to do, the guy even said it was common for the fitters to damage a new screen on the way to a Corrado job so that they wouldn't be able to fit it! Anyway he persevered and 2 hours later showed me the job. Overall not looking to bad, until I look at the rubber seal on the drivers side A-pillar, theres a 6mm ish gap, after trying to stretch the rubber down and superglue it to the pillar we then have a gap on the windscreen side aaaagh. More superglue and it looks half (no more) reasonable. He said don't worry all work's guaranteed, bring it back if you have problems etc. Well now I've been to work and back (70 miles total), and the seals come off already on the pillar, the seal across the top of the windscreen is hanging out too. So its going back, to add to this I examined the trim panels inside the car on the pillar, they're sliced, dented and not fixed properly, the strip along the windscreen inside has a knife mark (although admittedly its not very visible, and the scuttle panel at the bottom of the windscreen is about 5mm off the screen and now has a 3inch piece of it detached and helpfully mastiked back down again. There's glass on the seat and on the floor and the screen was so filthy on the inside that I could hardly see a thing when the sun was on it. Not happy....beware. The guy actually said they much prefer to do these at their depot rather than at the customers house because they're so awkward, I actually suggested originally that I took the car to them and was told that they prefer to come out to you. The fitter said that this is because Autoglass get more money for a mobile job from the insurance company, it's so wrong. Wish me luck...I'm off to see them, They'll not be pleased to see me after I took my mint Golf VR6 back there last year after they used old tape and pulled the laquer off the wing.

GSF ones are Varta and they don't come any better imo. Just bought one for my VR6...less than £30.

Changed mine about three days ago, removed the drain plug in the pipe that runs across the front of the engine. Set the heater controls to full heat. Filled it up again via the expansion tank, slowly after flushing it through. No airlocks. 20 min job max. Only use genuine G12+ coolant.

My project beast had 9 bent valves, 2 knackered guides and bits of tensioner everywhere because of worn tensioner parts. £1k later and I've mended it :-) It's the chains that never give out, not the tensioner parts.
-
Will do, I'll report back when I've tried your suggestion. Cheers :-)

The central locking on my car is acting up, it will lock all doors etc fine on the key but only unlocks the drivers door when unlocking. Is there an obvious place I should look for finding this gremlin?

My dad clamped it in a vice and hack sawed it from end to end, then got busy with a file, he's very good with a file though, he was trained as a fitter, spent about a year with a file during his apprenticeship! We are thinking about making some from steel, using a milling machine, will keep you guys updated as I still think £20 is a ridiculous price to pay for a ht lead tool.
-
Nice touch, definately a lot of thought there. I know when I go back to work after days off no one ever says what have you been up to it's always what have you been doing to the car!
-
Yeah I paid £12 last year, broke on the 2nd careful use. My dad made one in about 10mins from standard 22mm copper tubing, thats already done the job about 5 times no problem!

I can't beleive the monkeys on Ebay paying £25+ postage for the VW plastic ones that cost @£10 from the dealer. I keep thinking about buying a batch and flogging them on Ebay.

I used 2cc's draft guide, highly recommended. That and the Vortex one.
-
Can't think of anything else but I have just done the job and took lots of photos so may be able to help there if you need it.
-
I think it must have been something else you disturbed whilst changing the gasket mate, lets face it, cam cover gasket is not that straightforward on a VR6, you would need to get the ht leads off etc, inlet manifold, throttle bits etc.
-
Engine is sweet as generally, 105k miles, regular synta silver changes. Can't see how leaking gasket would cause any running problems either. It would be nice if thats the problem because I have a spare one sat there, it just doesn't appear to have leaked on inspection.

This is true! I'm just concerned that it may be coming from below.
-
Its a long way from the oil filler hole, plus the oil was distinctly used. I'll have to monitor it I think.
-
Good stuff, cheers Mr Baron :-)

Spot on, they're definately the same as the Wolfrace ones. Don't worry you won't offend me. I think they're hideous too! Thats why I want rid! My project VR6 came with these on (on standard suspension too!) but I did get an immaculate set of Speedlines thrown in which will be going back on! So now we know what they are, you reckon I might get £200 at a push? What chav forums do you reckon, Nova type places? Will the fact one needs a refurb affect the price much do you think?

Pics added.
