Can anyone suggest a different (lower) spring to go on the Konis - or am i better off buying a coilover kit but nothing too expensive! The standard spring cups (VAG) are used currently - i've heard special lowering cups could help my current setup?
  2. About a year ago i fitted H&R springs to my existing Koni TA's (on when bought) - But still the ride height is too much! I thought when the springs settle in it would look right - however it still needs to lose another 15mm or so (i think!). Im not interested on slamming it to the floor - just i've seen others with Koni/H&Rs and they look great! Is it any mod i can do to improve the height (sus top etc) - or should i purchase a set of coilovers - remembering im after quite a modest drop!   3. No not going to supercharge or turbo it (but would be great :D ) - shrick & cams - well not sure yet (what power can you expect?). Pretty much standard albeit i do like to put my foot down to hear the V6 :D - if standard gasket & bolts are fine then thats what i'll get - how about the metal one off the Sharan then?
  4. Suppose it would at 100mph mate! - I was going 30mph! :) The coolant was checked few hours BEFORE the problem - and found tobe at Max mark and had been for previous weeks! Still hoping its not the HG - Should know soon when my local garage is free! Not sure if i should drive to the garage or get it towed? If it turns out tobe the HG, what replacement should i get - standard VAG or something a bit stronger? Also standard bolts?
  5. As i did state the amount of coolant lose was small, however the vr was then driven only for say half a mile (home) before quickly turning off to investigate! The point i was trying to make is that this was a sudden (and very unlike!) lose of coolant - that afternoon was checked and found tobe at MAX mark on header tank. Im not 100% certain its HG but it seems that way to me - the power lose seemed a bit too much for a slight HG leak - which i would THINK it to be! Is there any other way coolant can enter the oil other than the HG? Its true the car has'nt been for a good run to clear condensation recently but still its easily the most whiteness ive seen on the cap which was covered! You say the eggy smell is the cat - do you mean a fault or the NORMAL and expected smell it gives off?
  6. I can understand you all asking if it really is the HG - but i also lost about 1.5cms of coolant from the header tank when i first experienced the problem. I check the level every day and its held on the MAX mark for weeks now without me having to top up - a sudden lose of water albeit small again suggested a leak - also its the most mush i've ever seen on my filler cap! However checking the dipstick revealed no white droplets at all! :? I do get an eggy smell coming into the cab when i drive the car fast - could this be the exhaust fumes you're referring to? Most unpleasant! :lol: Anyway the car will be going into the garage next week to be checked out - until then i think its wise not to use the car - what you all think?
  7. :( Driving home from work today experienced bad lose of power - so much so i thought the handbrake was still on - stopped at nearby filling station and checked oil filler cap and saw the dreaded white mush - certain head gasket failure! Its a standard 1994 Rado VR6 (Sports zorst & K/N) - what are the recommended parts i should be looking at buying for repair other than the dealers oem items - eg Head Gasket, bolts, sealers etc. What kind of cost am i looking at with/without parts for the repair and what timescale?

Lately my VR6 has become almost undrivable - It cold starts OK but when i drive off it starts becoming irratic and the power surges - the rev counter goes haywire (shooting up the scale and then dropping, most of the time to a stall! Its not as if it gets better when warmed up - it still stalls at junctions & roundabouts. Sometimes it will then settle down - as far as the surging is concerned - but the stalling still continues. I think i need to get it on Vagcom asap but what is the most likely cause(Isv, fuel filter, loose hose, injectors)???? :(
  10. Just finished mine today :D but took a whopping 6 and half hours :shock: Replaced everything and spent lot of time cleaning up various components before refitting it all back together again. Found it quite straight forward - i was lucky with the hoses as they came off quite easily and also managed to get at the drainplug (crackpipe) screw from the top of the engine to drain the coolant :D It does help if you can remove the plastic engine cover above the coilpack and the fan electrics plug. Tobe safe i did use gasket sealant on all joints. Found the most fiddley part tobe placing the new houseing assembly back onto the engine - lining up the 3 screw holes when working in that tight area took a bit of time but in my opinion its not worth removing the front of the car to do this - just be patient!   11. Is it ok to fill cooling system with plain tap water/antifreeze - seen it here somewhere to use distilled/antifreeze! Ratio 3 to 1 part antifreeze?

  13. Right mic, be great help if you put the relevant part numbers up here alongside the part they refer to for myself and anyone else that needs this information! Obviously i aint got all the seals yet! The problem is i aint bought a Bentleys yet - so i cant really see what i need exactly. Your receipt gives you the information - so it would be great if you post it here covering all the parts for a complete renewal of the section. Still not sure what stat to get yet! Which awesome one do i get for my 94' VR6? :D
  14. Right have been to VW for replacement parts for my leaky thermo housing and cost me £97.65 :shock: Im hoping i've got everything - the geezer pointed out the relevent parts on the screen. They were the said 2 piece housing and another part which im not sure i need (Parts: 021121117A, 021121121A, 021121133D). Thats £22.87, £9.64, £9.64. I bought sensors 025906041A & 701919369D - just tobe safe! At £12.21 & £22.80. However i had to buy seals aswell (not with housing!) N90136802, N10139201, 021121119A. Im not sure if i've got ALL the necessary seals - I need expert advice to say if im missing any parts before i start stripping it down. Cheers!
  15. OK just discovered coolant leak (quite bad!) from this thermostat housing area of the engine - hard to see exactly where but its from this area. Im gonna get my local garage (who specialises in VW) to do the work as its hard to find the time and i hav'nt got use of a readiliy available vehicle to get parts i might need once its all stripped down! I would like to know is it better to pick up the parts myself first - the lower temp termo(awesome gti - but WHICH model?), perhaps replace sensors (how much?), perhaps replace the thermo housing(2 pieces how much?). Whereas these parts might not need replacing, it will give me piece of mind and know that the mechanic hasnt cut corners and neglected to replace potentially damaged items.

  17. From early this morning the ABS warning light(dash) has stayed on all the time when the ignition is on! :( This obviously shows there a fault - what do i need to check first before fearing the worst! Corrado VR6 1994 "M".

  22. Wheres the best place to obtain a replacement coolant hose for my 94' VR6. Its the larger hose at the rear of the engine that runs into the bulkhead. Is it only available from the dealers?
  23. Just arrived home today and noticed smoke coming from under bonnet as i was parking up. When i opened bonnet i feared the worst - thought the head gasket had blown! :shock: However on closer inspection i saw that the coolant hose that runs into the back of the engine and into the the heater in the bulkhead had a small hole in it and was squirting over the head if the engine! What i would like to know is where is the best place to obtain this hose - its the larger one that has a smaller tube running off it at the rear of the engine(near the bulkhead). My car is a 94' VR6 Corrado.

    My Rado VR6 needs a new alternator. How much would a re-con & how much brand new?
  25. Went to pick up my G/Friend tonight - my C totally went dead on me on the way there! :( Thought at first it was the low fuel level so topped up with £4 worth of fuel but still no joy??? Before the car cut out the wipers slowed down considerably and also the ABS light came on - obviously battery lost power :? The battery became so dead that even the Hazards would'nt work :shock: Called a mate out but could'nt get it started with jump leads either, however his car is a 1600cc saloon - not sure if its possible to jump my VR6? Checked the fuses - looked ok but it was quite dark. Could it be a relay? If so which one or which fuse? Then could'nt find the front towing eye to get the car home - is there a front towing eye? Had to leave my C in the local Tesco :( Anyone who can point me in the right direction to solving this problem?
