Hey red-baron - please can you give me the name of this garage that you used just in case as my brother lives up north (pm me if you're worried about being to vocal). Even the most praised garages make errors (speaking from experience) which is unfortunate but snapping the vr6 cover!!! Thats painful The unhelpful gits you spoke to will have a storey ready for the boss so stand your ground and don't get fobbed off. Good luck Good luck

This looks a bit familiar - Iamwagon check this out http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CORRADO-MANIFOLD- ... dZViewItem or item no. 150064262745 on ebay would this fit? This is from Belgium just like the VR6 ones everyone has bought.

I was a bit nervous of my cheapy Raceland manifold cracking but thought what the heck and its fine - damn cool naughty noise too! I would say give Milltek a call first to see if they actually do one for sure first. One of there agents in the south is fitting one of their 4 branch manifolds to a project golf so they must be good.

i believe milltek do a four branch manifold for golfs etc. check their website

martyjmcfly replied to martyjmcfly's topic in General Car Chat
You are quite correct my fine fellow - i should have been asleep well before that post. I'm kinda tempted to have a go at the course as i've had no formal training as such. The teacher may have contacts as to further courses? -
Maintenance evening courses in Surrey/Hampshire area?

Well - after speaking to a women on the help desk at Guildford college the information i managed to get out of her was limited shall we say. They are unable to provide a syllabus for the course or get one of the instructors to speak to me. I was told from her own understanding that it entailed changing the oil and changing the spark plugs. Its not sounding too good but i'm in no way a mechanic. I've learn't these basics with my dad but there must be more to learn if the course is 20 hours - but definately not timing chains on a VR6 - damn!!!. So there you go - the course is £160 'basic vehicle maintenance' and its code is xx04ce0b00fp. The next course starts in January, the next one March. If anyone goes on the course and has to change a wheel please don't hunt me down and kill me. If anyone else wants a go at getting more information as to the course content the no. is 01483 448585 - good luck and please let me know if you find out more. :) -
Maintenance evening courses in Surrey/Hampshire area?

Update: Brooklands College only offer a 1.5 days a week course i.e not evening. They advised me to try learn direct who were very helpfull and put me in contact with Guildford College - they offer a basic vehicle maintenance course which is set out over 10 weeks, 1900-2100 hrs. The next course starts in January. When i say basic this may be oil changing and changing a wheel??? I'll do a bit more digging and try and obtain a syllabus to see if its worth it? Other than that it may mean giving up part of my working week which would be nice but stupid. Cheers M -
Your like my 20 year old brother whos getting a integra type R - there's no reasoning god damn it!!!!!!

118 miles total round trip if in the office (not in the C) - its strange but i kinda like it. I'll be working from home most of the time soon and i'm sure i'll kinda like that better I was similar when i first started this job and put 20K miles on my 60K car, the fuel pump went on the way home then i got a brand new company vehicle. Those journeys to work and back were excellent however - big grin all the time

Some B's did this to my car when i was in MacDonalds one night. That will teach me to eat S### food. I was in for 5 minutes. My car is also L041 flat black and the line was not major but the white undercoat said hello which stands out like a sore thumb. T cut the lightly key areas the bits where the black paint has just been scratched but not the bits where the paint is missing. Cleaning the undercoat exposed areas with a suitable spirit and then paint with Halfords Volkwagen Black repair pen/brush. It looks damn good, you have to look close to notice - I think it's the colour. if you don't want to splash the wonger straight away this is a good interim repair. For under £10 and 15 minutes work i'm not so embarrased.

Mine exploded first time when i did something silly then i knackerd another one because the problem is still there sort of but ok :) the head just needs a clean that all. if you have extra air being drawn in then i reckon it will cause a rough idle. When my first damper blew some of the blue foam from within the case blocked the ISV open and i had a very lumpy idle. Whilst doing the work to sort this out check the ISV. The part costs approx £22 from memory, the part number is on the underside. I have removed it from the excellent advise from kevhaywire. You just rotate the ISV and connect the rubber tubing that originally connected to the damper and hay presto. You notice a slight whistling but it sounds kinda cool like a baby super charger. I have had it this way for 6 months + and have had no problems. The damper must do as said on the tin and supress the whistle noise.

I'm trying to search for a decent evening course so i can learn a bit more about looking after the C. All colleges i've contacted don't do them. There mostly full time, held in the day etc. nothing really geared around someone who has a day job. So far its been a little tinkering - changing the oil etc but i want to take it a stage further without bodging something and having a car sitting on the drive for 6 months with no wheels on it. If anyone has been on one or knows where holds them please let me know. Cheers M -
Why thank you - i never new this existed - seriously!!!!! I am not worthy Rpmayne, cheers!

How do you reset the ECU? What are the magic button presses???? I've had a miltek sports cat and stainless steel manifold fitted so would the car benefit? Cheers
-
Damn - not so easy, i want to go on a VR6 engine course!

I have had the cam cover off before when i was doing a bit of polishing etc and did wonder how easy it is to replace the tappets. Just from memory i reckon they are the silver circular discs under the cam lobes. Is replacing them an easy job or does it require removing the cams and special vw tools etc?

cheers Toad

On the website are they termed as 'Hydraulic Cam Followers'? Cheers M

Try Winns engine flush with your next oil change (like soon). I have found it to be the best so far. If the tappy noise is still there then tappets should be your next call.

Stainless steel VR6 6-2-1 exhaust manifold - whats the best?
martyjmcfly replied to martyjmcfly's topic in Engine Bay
How's everyone enjoying their new manifold then? Fantastic don't you think. It's such a cool noise. I reckon it sounds kind of like a that clicky Harley noise. You can hear each cylinder fire. When i first heard it i thought an old fiesta was trying to overtake. The weight saving is massive. I picked up the original cat and manifold and reckon their well over double the weight of the stainless stuff - all i can say is well chuffed - excellent mod if anyone is considering. -

Is it possible to use the stock heat shield because i want to see big blue and yellow bananas, not lots of dodgy looking fabric?
