Mocal fitted to the VR but need help with a coolant hose
martyjmcfly replied to martyjmcfly's topic in Engine Bay
Bumpage please Any help most appreciated -
Hi all, the Mocal was fitted yesterday and all seems excellent with regards to the oil temperature. It seems impossible to get it above 98 degrees c. However the hose connection extension on the the coolant tube which connects to the original oil cooler snapped off. The extension is now in the rubber tube (this all happened whilst hacking it along on the A3 near to Waterlooville and i did need the AA) What i am after is a rubber pipe which goes from the coolant tube (the pipe that runs across the front of the engine at an angle from the water pump to the thermostat housing) to the engine block. One that by-passes the original oil cooler. What i did was join the two rubber pipes together and the angle on the coolant tube must have been to great for it to handle. How did you fellow Mocal users get around this problem? Any help most appreciated Martin

The parachute deploying must have helped. The driver is quite plainly a cock!

Nice one jammin. Once whatever heads on. Thats it. I don't plan to remove it when the chains etc are changed along side. I just want to make the best decision before going ahead with the major surgery. Cheers for the input guys Martin

twin engine Corrado 4X4. click link for new pics
martyjmcfly replied to vr6banana's topic in Members Gallery
This quite simply impressive engineering! If my lady came out to see me with my car in a similar state as those lastest pics i would get a smack!!! I hope this car be at GTI international on the 1/4? -
Is the golf VR6 head the same as the corrado if you remove the cams? Say i hand a golf head over to a company to do the works on it and have big valves - will the finished article be what i would get if i handed over a corrado head?
-
Fook*ng 1100 quid!!! Major expense. Grants were around the 700-800 quid mark i last looked. Decisions decisions. It would be nice to hear from someone with a Grant head on running.

I'll give my local friendly parts guy a call to see whats the deal with a VW one. I may even get the usuall discount.
-
Ok, i think i want to exchange my head for a reconditioned one. Is Grant the best company to turn to?
-
I wish to purchase a reconditioned vr6 head from a top source. One where you could guarantee the workmanship, trust that all internals are brand spankers and it looks like a piece of shiney art too. Also would a big valve head be a good idea? All ive seen so far is Grant Motor Sport. Any experienced/educated advice welcomed. Cheers

New Engine speed sensor fitted, yet fault code still there ?
martyjmcfly replied to CorradoRun's topic in Engine Bay
This is what i did. I went on the advise of a local guys cheap diagnostic computer that does 'every' car. Went to amd who's more specific diagnostic read G40 sensor and £28 quid later me very happy. -
Geometry adjustment from a tyre fitting establishment is 99% of the time going to p*** you off as you will not get a proper job done despite having the best laser equipment to hand. I would suggest giving Stealth a ring, they will know for sure as i've heard they do a top job and then book the car in for a top geometry setup.

If you have a standard motor 190+bhp can you fit one of these Sytec pumps and all be ok with standard hoses etc? Obviously with the thought in mind that when i fit new chains and head gasket etc. there may be the addition of a grant motorsport big valve head with ITB or supercharger of course :)

Maintenance evening courses in Surrey/Hampshire area?
martyjmcfly replied to martyjmcfly's topic in General Car Chat
Oh damn - as there were not enough people on the course the gits have cancelled it so i'll have to wait till April. I was looking forward to it too! It should be enough time to organise a few of us lot? -
When i replaced the fuel pump on my VR after it died i had the same strange problem. I replaced it with a VW original brand new VDO and it was all over the shop. I complained to the VW dealership as i thought it was a faulty unit. They replaced it themselves under warranty and it was still the same. I drove it home to give it a chance before returning it and i seem to remember it sorting itself out after a while. Try renewing the clips on the fuel lines as they come up from the bulkhead (wrapped in heatshield material with velcrow) with decent jubilee ones. The fuel pump is brand new after all and the pressure may be greater than has been up till recent.

When my clutch was slipping i didn't smell anything, It did go soon after however and it sounds like you won't buy the clutch idea. Since having your work of art head + all the other stuff do you need to uprate injectors etc to cope with the free flowing flowing head?

Maintenance evening courses in Surrey/Hampshire area?
martyjmcfly replied to martyjmcfly's topic in General Car Chat
Just thought sod it and giving it a go. If its basic i'm sure i'll learn something. You have to start somewhere. My cheque hasn't cleared yet so they must be closed or the thief/postman has nicked the post or put it down the drain :) -
JMR is the G60 master (and master of most other motor vehicles also). Didn't he first develop the toothed belt drive. He's near Lancing Sussex. The Phirm are also good but that damn driveway.

Sent my application form off today - course starts 10th January, i hope there's space on the course and if so i hope i learn something - nice -
Now i know nothing about head rebuilds but how does this head compare with Grant Motor sports large valve flowed head which is cheaper than the £1k figure you paid?

Suggestions for a new car please - decision made see pg3
martyjmcfly replied to Phil K's topic in General Car Chat
Octavia would be the safe bet but how about taking the plunge and be different and try something new e.g the alfa. A brand new black 159 was behind me and it looked the dogs - i thought it was the new Brera until it came along side. The back was pretty damn nice too. Renault = naff French **** VW Passat = boring. Grill like a new Golf R32 but then......... its not. VW Jetta = you know its wrong What about the new baby Volvo estate which looks cool i'm sorry or just say sod it and get a Golf GTI. -
And the cat if it has one?
-
if the chains have been changed etc and all to a high standard then you've got to be chuffed. Thats the main hurdle passed yippeeeee!!!!!!!!
