I dont think it is a problem giving the vr head a slight skim. I know my cars had a rebuild and I think I seen skim mentioned in the receipt somewhere and it runs fine. If the heads ever off again though I reckon I better use the standard gasket just in case.
-
Kev, I seen you mention in another thread that skimming the head would affect the timing. Wouldnt this thinner gasket have the same effect?

If theres a group buy going I could have someone to buy a set of the rear konis as well. Ive just recently bought Koni coilovers and TSR were the cheapest by far, definately worth giving them a call.

N reg 16v, bordeoux pearl maybe, first seen near Ibrox and followed to Hillington today, between 3 and 4pm.

I think this is the same person, no email but could send a pm? http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/profile.ph ... ile&u=1904

I think I was charged 2 1/2 hours. It may be less on the 16v though as on the vr the engine mounts need loosened and the engine jacked a bit to gain access to one of the bolts. (Driver side IIRC)
-
Agreed with Kev, that sounds consistent with my '93 16v(45mph) and '95 vr6(56mph).

Fuel pump, mines recently started getting a bit noisier but no running issues yet.
-
It adjusts itself and should be ok unless somethings amiss like a sensor. If the engine is modified then the chip needs remapped to adjust it.

VR6, just out of curiosity, what settings are you running your shocks at? I know there FK's but there practically the same as Konis. Ive set mine to a 1/2 turn at the back and 1 1/2 at the front for now. Will let them settle a bit before I start messing about too much.

Problem solved, turned out id taken the bearing back off for something and must have forgot to put it back in place. Car drives great now, cant believe the difference they make considering I had a decent setup before. Just need an alignement now.
-
Right, thought about this more now and spoke to andy for a bit and the problem seems more clear. The problem is that the top spring platform is able to slide up and down the strut, so as the spring compresses the strut slides through the middle of the platform and heads for the sky. Now the 2 possibilities are that ive missed something putting them together or ive been supplied with the wrong spring platforms (possible as theres a few bits missing, 1 of the adjuster spanners and damping adjustment knobs.) Looking at the suspension parts document here im wondering if I simply need number 10 from the earlier style? Is this just a spacer or does it stop the platform from sliding down the strut? Part number for this? Im thinking of putting a thick washer of the correct size in this very place as I reckon it would solve the problem but not sure if thats a good idea or not. Will think more on this as im not near my car at the moment and cant look to check this stuff and its late. Any help appreciated.

If your planning on going for huge power with the 20vt though, then yeah, 4wd.
-
I never realised it could be done so cheap, I take it thats most of the work being done by yourself though? Personally I wouldnt hesitate to recommend an LSD to anyone, and I reckon the extra weight of the 4wd setup isnt worth adding, but ive never drove a 4wd vw so my opinion could change depending on how good they are.

How much does it cost to go 4x4 like? About a grand to get a diff fitted, about 2500 if you go for a 6speed at the same time which would be awesome.
-
Im pretty sure ive fitted the top mounts the same way as shown in the attached picture, is that wrong?
-
Cool, I hope your right.
-
I'll check that first, think its something else though. Its as if the spring is mounted properly, but theres nothing to put pressure on the top of the damper, id imagine if I drove it the first bump would cause it to hit the bonnet.
-
If I had the money just now and hadnt recently bought new speedlines id snap them up. :(
-
Ok, fitted my coilovers tonight, rears were a doddle but ive hit a problem with the fronts. Once the car is on the ground the strut is pushing its way through and nearly hitting the bonnet. I know its something to do with the way ive put the top mount assembley together but dont know what ive done wrong. Heres the way ive done it, starting from bottom. Strut > Lower spring platforms > spring > Upper spring platform > Bearing type thing (from old shock) > Nut (also from old shock) > Top mount > car > Upper stop thing (wide plate) > spring washer > nut Any ideas what ive missed? Ive had a look at the suspension parts doc thats kicking about but things look a bit different as thats for standard shocks. :?

Andi, id get that checked out quick. On my old 16v in heavy rain water managed to find its way through the air intake for the heater motor, from there it gets to wires and runs straight into the main abs control unit. It sounds like you should be ok this time but if water keeps getting in there you could find yourself needing a new control unit or worse, find yours brakes doing all sorts of mad stuff and sending you off the road.

Some more pics:

Im sure I seen it mentioned before that theres a bus that uses the rear lights.
-
I thought the first 5 gear ratios were the same as the non evo's, the 6th gear is just an overdrive for the motorways? :?

Cant see the pics. :( Got some of the spec though, through a pm on one of the Honda forums a while back... 8)
