get a 6 branch exhaust manifold and heatwrap it. makes a lovely burble especially at 1200 and 3000 rpm :D
-
iv got 268 dougherty cams on mine and idle was spot on
-
you dont get any torque loss with a schrick manifold?? you gain ALOT of midrange torque i have the dougherty 268s and rate them
-
o christ which 1 would suit me and what other bits and pieces do i need? just 2 hoses?
-
where can i get a cheap intercooler that wont steall loads of boost???
-
will it fit a mk3 golf?
-
not exactly the fact that the engine revs very high and makes good power at high revs allows the use of shorter gear ratios that multiply the torque more and make the car accelerate faster the ratios are matched to the engine characteristics thats why a big ol v8 (and turbo diesels) that makes huge torque at low revs and doesnt rev has very long gearing compared to a high revving smaller capacity motor compare my vr6 with a civic type r 4th gear on the vr is almost identical to 6th on the civic my vr revs to 6800 rpm (raised limiter) and does 132 mph on the clock whereas the civic revs to 8200 rpm! which means 150 mph + with the same gear ratio if you could fit a ctr box to a vr6 it would be an absolute missile but the top speed would be 130 mph lol iv only seen 1 vtec torque graph (bhp graphs tell you sod all) and the vtec kick is a con lol the torque actually drops 5 lb ft or so THEN gives a sudden 10 ish lb ft gain (thats the kick you feel) your actually only gaining about 5 lb ft lol but it FEELS quick the diffrent cam profile means it starts to tail off at 5500 ish but does so quite gracefully so it doesnt feel like its dropping

gears multiply the engines torque shorter gear ratios multiply it more than long gears low torque high bhp (ie very high revving) engines allow for low gearing because they rev so much
-
well i got the 6 branch gasket fixed and the car is queiter than its ever been! sounds great at low revs lovely warble + charger whistle iv got my mid range grunt back woohoo but the thing im a bit dissapointeed by is how quite it is over 4k at wot :( you can only really hear the charger chucking air in it doesn roar like it used to :( :( it mustve been blowing a bit from when i had it i may even have retreived the lost boost if im lucky

Did you know that VAG do a baffled sump for the VR6?
eatthis replied to PhatVR6's topic in Engine Bay
whats involved in going dry sump and what exactly does it mean kev? -
do the fans come on at 90 or something then? coz my water temp goes straight to 90 over a few minutes then never budges
-
you seem to be cunfusing synthetic/semi synth with thin/thick oil you can get 10/40 synthetic and you can get 0-30 semi or even mineral
-
i thought the stock stat opened at 90?
-
iv got aquamist but no methanol as i dont know where to get it
-
please mate iv been offered a charge cooler for £350

i own a golf vr6 with stock internals (apart from 268 cams which are being replaced by stock cams). im running a v9f supercharger with a 12 psi pulley it actually makes 11 psi and figures of 267 lb ft and 303 bhp. the slight problem is im not running an intercooler and the charger and inlet manifold (metal) gets rather toasty would a basic nos kit cool the inlet mani as well as add some power/torque? also im towards the limit regarding the amount of boost i can run on stock compression will nos make any diffrence 1 way or the other?? what are the positives and negatives of a basic nos kit with this setup? ie what kind of extra stress would it put on the engine?? thanks in advance

if you mean the valve stem oil seals they were done at 88k miles along with new tappets and obviously a headgasket it could be a bit of bore wear on 1 cylinder as it fouled 1 pliug up a bit in 12k miles but overall the engine is in good nick as it has always made good torque

cheers added to favorites :)

hm iv started to bit a little bit of smoke on overrun and using a bit odf oil what exactly is the silky stuff called and where can i get it?
-
5-40 IS too thin i doubt itl do any major dmg but you really should put 10-40 or 10-50 in
-
5-40 is too thin for vrs of any age really synta silver is good stuff but i dont see why a fully synthetic 10-40/50 wouldnt be even better
-
Think your so clever Kevhaywire..... try fitting this in!
eatthis replied to jedi-knight83's topic in Engine Bay
2 ford v6s mated to a single crank. sounds fantastic looks absolutely gob smackingly gorgeous not as rapid as your probably thinking at national limit speeds (dont half go when they get over 3 figures mind lol thats when it comes down to pure power and aerodynamics) -
i need a silencer in mine to retreive 1 psi of boost if i got a supersprint backbox woul it be a good idea to get a 2nd hand middle silencer??

Well, you can extropolate from the times and weight, just how much power the car is making. He rolling roaded the car at various stages. Like I said, it was making 225whp at the end of it's career. That's unheard for a stock 2.8 with a tired bottom end. Fastest time ever was an 11.7, and no other N/A trim vr6 has ever matched that. Trap speed was around 114mph I think. 114 mph terminal speed with 225 whp sounds like shit to me even with slicks (unless its just a shell) my car has 255 whp and does 105 mph terminals
