  1. Yeah I would have thought so too, although I bought it off a lady who'd owned it for 11 years so maybe she wasn't the most sympathetic of drivers when it came to clutch control  I think I'll have to bite the bullet and have a new clutch put on at some point, cheers for the posts :)
  2. Nope, hadn't thought of gearbox fluid, tbh It doesn't seem to be a gearbox problem to me?
  3. P.S - when we put the car on the RR we gave it a power run for the sake of it and I was pleased to see it's giving 121bhp, what a beast :D ---------- Post added at 10:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:37 AM ---------- Hmmm, well if those are possibilities then maybe a clutch change is in order, I had ruled it out due to the fact that it was relatively new.
  4. Fair point, I'll trawl through the paperwork to find out, could it be that a poor quality (gsf etc) clutch would cause the problem?
  5. Gearbox is cable change (all rados are) and all bolts have been checked and are fine, we have tried the car on the rolling road to check engine movement and it's fine, the mounts were replaced by a VAG specialist and Corrado owner so they have been done correctly, I used mounts from VW and yes all 3 have been changed, plus the problem existed before changing the mounts so we can rule out that they've been wrongly fitted. The gearbox is as tight and smooth as you'd expect from a 80k car. When slowly releasing the clutch it is a lot smoother. Cheers for the suggestions :)
  6. Hi all, I've had a problem with wifey's 8v since we bought it 6 months ago, whenever you release the clutch after changing gear it seems slightly harsh when re-engaging, it's hard to describe but it's just not as smooth as it should be and it's a bit annoying, it's not a major issue and wifey's not bothered by it but it's the kind of thing that ruins the driving experience for me whenever I take it out as I'm a fussy bugger! So far I've changed engine and gearbox mounts which made little to no difference, and also cleaned out the throttle body which did nothing, checked all wiring which seems OK. The car's only done 82k miles and had a new clutch at around 70k. Any suggestions as to what it could be? I was thinking it's engine related as opposed to something to do with the clutch but I'm starting to think it could be clutch related however due to the fact that it's only done 12K I'm reluctant to pay to have it changed without being pretty certain it's the culprit (baring in mind I've already spent out on parts that weren't really needed!) I realise it's not an easy problem to diagnose with a vague description but if anyone has any suggestions as to what might be worth looking at or whether a fault with the clutch could cause this, I'd be grateful!
  7. I can see what some peoples gripes are with the new software, but having spent countless hours in the past moderating this forum I can see the benefits and most of them are from an Admin point of view which in turn means that it'll benefit the users. I know it's been about for a few weeks but I would suggest more time is needed for the guys to tweek the forum and for users to get used to it. The forum hasn't ever seen such a big change, and big changes take time to bed in. Well done fella's :camp:
  8. The gear surrounds all came with a Karmann badge regardless of whether the car had a Recaro interior or not as far as I know mate, I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to find a surround without a recess.
  9. I am, sort of, PM me if you like :)
  10. Fire me some info over when you've decided what you're doing then Andi, I may be interested :)
  11. 82k on mine, not as low as some but low enough to be considered 'low mileage' :)
  12. I think i've donated more than enough over the years, so i'll manage with what I've got! :D I was just pointing it out, so if anyone else is wondering why they can't send PM's even though they've cleared out their 'inbox', the 'sentbox' needs to be cleared too! :)
  13. Very smart! Nice to see the forum moving with the times :) I just had problems with PM'ing but it turned out to be that I had 850 messages in my 'sentbox'!!!
  14. I did it once a few years ago, never again! Its a right ballache - personally I'd rather sell the car for a bargain price than have to go through the hassle of breaking/storing/selling/sending etc etc, its really not an easy option.
  15. Yip,its just a much better engine all round 8)
  16. In that case, try and find a nice G60 or VR6 :) Seriously, you'll regret getting rid of your 8v (especially if it's a decent one) for a 16v!
  17. Why would you want to sell an 8v for a 16v mate? 8v's are in a different league :)
  18. Sell them both and buy a G60?
  19. I've driven various Corrados for the last 10 years, covering tens of thousands of miles and I've never once broken down - buy a goodun, then look after it and it'll look after you, use quality parts (OEM or better) and practice prevention rather than cure etc etc. I personally think they're incredibly reliable going from my experience, people moaning about their 20 year old sports coupe costing them a few quid in maintenance is ludicrous really, how many other 15-20 year old 100k mile + cars do you see still on the road let alone costing their owners nothing to keep going? it's a bit unrealistic to expect that really :)
  20. Good luck with finding one, I went through over 15 of them over 9 years and never managed to get one as good as my first, im pretty much convinced they don't actually exist in that sort of condition any more, my current one is pretty much as good as it gets as far as I've seen, and it's not perfect! :)
  21. I personally doubt that prices will rise as a rule, maybe a select few will fetch 'decent' money in the future but on the whole they'll sell for what they're worth, which in reality is increasingly less and less. Who cares though? Cars depreciate in value, its a fact of life :)
  22. The VR6 I bought from volksworld13 on here had a set of heater controls that i'd never seen in a Corrado before, they were very similar and worked perfectly but the dials were slightly different, I assumed they were from a Passat or something?
  23. Just thought I'd nudge this thread, there should be some updates soon as the car will be going 4WD :)
  24. Agreed, it's bloody terrible they can get away with it! I bought a house which needed full renovation including a heating system last year in a village with no mains gas so I went for oil, I had a 2000 litre tank installed and my heating engineer thought I was mad, lots of local people also joked with me about how huge my tank is when I moved in but I was able to fill it in the summer for 41p a litre, I still have just over half a tank left which will see me through to the summer when (hopefully) prices will be back down around 40p and i'll fill it up again, it's a pain having to fork out £900 odd to fill it but its the most cost effective way of doing it :( I wouldn't be surprised if it gets robbed at some point either! just before xmas there was a 2 week wait for oil and that was at 84p/l! As I said in another thread, its actually cheaper for me to fly to Cardiff and back than it is to take either of my cars, its got ridiculous
  25. I'm sure I've seen this parked up in Pentire a few times? it always catches my eye.
