Wind resistance was my first thought, but having asked other van owners they all seem to get better economy on long runs so it can't be that, Its really weird! I don't go much faster than 80mph (3k revs) ever so its not like i'm ragging it, I can only assume it must be something to do with the re-map?

Yes its not a Corrado, but I thought i'd ask in here as there's a few knowledgeable people around, and a severe lack of decent T4 forums to get info from! My van returns around 600 miles from a tank when i'm driving around locally, but when I do long journeys this drops to around 500! Now every other vehicle i've ever had has given better fuel economy on long runs so this is baffling me tbh! Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is? The engines a 2.5TDI, and it's been re-mapped (from 102bhp to 129bhp) - am I right to assume that this has something to do with the re-map? or could there be another reason that it's using more fuel on long runs. To be honest, i'm not particularly bothered by it as I do more local driving than I do long runs, but it seems a little odd so i'd like to know the reason behind it. :camp:

£120

I think it's more a case that you have the wrong engine in the right car

16v MPG figures tend to vary a hell of a lot - i've never really worked out why but can only assume that the engine is more susceptible to how you drive or the roads you generally drive on (i.e if you live in a built up place or rural etc) than average. I've had many valvers, and have NEVER managed to get much above 30mpg when trying my hardest, no matter how light footed I am. Generally i'd get around 27MPG overall, I dont like ragging the tits of my cars so keep the revs fairly low and I live in a rural area with very little in the way of traffic/traffic lights/stop starting etc. I'm afraid that you may well find that you get roughly the same MPG if not a little less from your 16v than you are from your VR6. I've always managed better MPG from VR6's and G60's (including a 200+ fettled G60) than from valvers. Bang for bucks it just doesn't work out, 27MPG from a 4 pot 136bhp valver or 30MPG from a 6 pot 190bhp V6?

Wow, looks stunning mate! especially like the cock and balls pic

I've been mostly listening to my John Martyn collection latey, partly due to being reminded of just how much of a legend he was with his sad death on the 29th Jan :( but also because I find that it's good stuff for getting my boy off to sleep  RIP John (Iain) :(

Its just an 8v with a hairdryer strapped on top mate, it shouldn't be too difficult to find someone willing and able to sort it out, the chargers the only bit thats 'specialist' :camp:
-
I think the reality is, that you can't expect any less when buying a G60 for £1000 (or whatever you paid) :( You'd have to be VERY lucky to get one that doesn't need a fair bit of work for that amount really, sometimes it can seem like a cheap car but in the long run you'd be better off buying an 'expensive' one to begin with that hasn't got as many tales to tell. One things for sure though, once you've got all the niggles sorted out you'll have a nice grin on your face :)
-
If you need your charger rebuilt, then it's worth taking it off and sending it down to G-Werks! But for belt changes, frankly you'd be mad to travel from Manchester to the south coast just to get it done there! There's bound to be countless places that will be more than capable of doing it that are closer to you, i'm sure there people on here that can recommend you a place mate :)

I've not read the rest of the thread, but if you haven't already done it - change the rad, i've had a few that have not overheated but just run hot and only changing the rad has cured it :)

Looks lovely, great colour! 8) The chip you have will either be a Jabba one or an SNS one, they're seperate companies mate (although looking at your list of mods i'd assume it's a Jabba!)

Atn: G60 Corrado owners (don't know about the others)
Walesy replied to Tempest's topic in Engine Bay
Yes mate, when people talk about 'early Corrados' they usually mean pre 1992 -
How weird! I was looking at these exact models on Autotrader earlier - which is really strange considering you've also got a T4! And yeah, it's amazing how much car you can get for £1500 these days! I know they're not a direct comparison at all but you can see why some people are struggling to sell their 150k mile J reg valvers for £1500 etc when these are available for that price! (although it has to be said, that one seems like a bargain!)

Golf VR6 slower then C VR6 - Please explain!

And less money in their wallets to weigh them down. -
Car looks cool mate, and that cake is great! As for your questions, you'll probably get more response from the tech experts if you post in the Engine section, there's a thread near the top of the section dedicated to 24v conversions so you might be best off having a read through it and asking questions in there, i'm sure there'll be enough know-how on here to guide you through it! good luck! EDIT - here's the thread mate - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33931

Yeah I was talking about RR time too, just down here in the back of beyond, I'm not saying its OTT, just that i'm glad the specialist I use charge Cornish prices

 I moan about paying £33 an hour at RKE - lets hope they dont read this thread!

I've spoken to a few people to try and get a figure for a conversion but no-one will commit! Some seem to think it'll be a fairly straight forward job and others think it'd be very difficult. I've had people raise issues such as fuel lines/tank/filler neck size etc If you can do the work yourself, obviously it'll bring your costs down dramatically. A derv rado would be great IMO, modern TDI's are very driveable, bags of torque and can be re-mapped to big figures. Granted, to those wanting big power a TDI will never compete with a VR6T or 20VT etc but as a daily workhorse I think it'd be bang on!

Bizarrely i've had Xplods in a few cars i've owned and every one of them has done this, its bloody annoying. My van is the same and it's on my 'to do' list. I wonder if it's an Xplod thing?
-
I think they're custom driveshafts mate, can't remember what car the lump was from - i'm sure he'll be online soon to fill you in! Its apparently a surprisingly good engine in a rado!
-
It was fitted before he bought it though so unfortunately there's no build thread :( Its a 6 speed too! Theres a lady on Dubforce that's done one, and a few others floating about. I'd love one and have always promised myself one

I hope they realised before starting, otherwise that could be fecking nasty!
