From a static noise perspective my car - replete with Magnex exhaust & sports cat - only measures at 82db when soundchecked at trackdays. Curiously the predominent noise most of the time in my car until recently was the continual droning noise made by the R888 track tyres. I've just changed the fronts for a pair Toyo T1R and already the lack of whine is quite noticeable. I'll be swapping the backs out within the next month. Aside from that there's a loose cable in the driver's door which knocks occasionally but aside from that I have no squeaks or rattles anywhere, which is reassuring in a 16 year old car which has been substantially pulled apart & back together at least three times that I'm aware of. Good old German build quality!

Now, now boys... jealousy will get you nowhere. I was going to say it's not my fault it looks great, but of course it is my fault isn't it! I think even my old chum A1VR6 was starting to warm to it by the end of the day, haha. Can I also point out that despite my 'demotivator' above I do actually have a VWMS VSR lurking under my bonnet. They're just not easy to find...

Time for another couple

I actually agree with you. It's very similar to "Austin Powers Goldmember" really - all the characters are there, the right noises are being made, but somewhere along the line the mojo of it all got lost. They clearly threw a load of money and creative people at this second video, but in doing so created such an epic production that you completely forget what the f**k is supposed to be so impressive about it all.

Listen that Ken Block is a total wusser and a puftee yer know and I could beat his arse anytime I wanted to if I could be bovvered in my Vauxhall Corsa you know. The video is all CGI anyway innit.

I popped over to Bovington on Sunday to have a look over the fence and see what was going on. Looked like quite a large variety of metal on display including a couple of Ferraris. Someone mentioned that thoughts were being considered to hold this event on a more regular basis - possibly even monthly - if it continued to be successful. Today I was sent the link below. Looks like the event claimed some victims. The MX5 rolled and the passenger was trapped for a while until the car was recovered. I wouldn't want to own that M3... do you think he had track day insurance? http://bbs.scoobynet.com/members-galler ... -pics.html

fords make me chuckle   it would give you more fun than any other car for 10K imo, anyone think of a better idea?? You can buy a good E39 M5 for a lot less than £10k right now. That's a helluva lot more of a performance car than anything made by FoMoCo except the Ford GT.

The problem with talking about 30mm, 40mm or even 60mm drops is that since various models and model years Corrados started with different spring heights, that there is no common starting point from which to calculate the drop. For example 1993/4 VR6s ran very different springs to the 95/96 models. But my take on the OP's question is that it's possible to very low, but you have ask yourself what compromises you're willing to accept. 16v/G60s can generally be lowered more than VR6s can, because with the VR6 you can got to the point where the oil sump starts to become very exposed to damage. Having your car on the deck may look cool & everything, but you'll feel a right plonker if you ground it out or thump a manhole cover and put a dirty great hole in your oil sump. The second consideration should be based on how & where you think you'll be driving the car. Generally the lower you go, the stiffer the suspension will be (even on coilovers). In my view dropping much more than the "60mm" drop mentioned on posts above can alter the suspension geometry to the point where the front wishbones are almost parallel to the road. This is ok on a smooth surface but under bounce the suspension runs the risk of going past the parallel position and into an inverted geometry. This is neither good for the componants (because joints & bushes etc are suddenly being pulled apart rather than under compression) and pushes the suspension into an unnatural geometry just at the point where you probably need it to be working well for you (ie when you're crunching into a bump at speed). As a recommendation I suggest you set your suspension so that you can at least push a finger in between the top of the tyre and the arch when the car is static. Any lower than that you'll probably need to do arch modifications anyway. If you set it there the car will still be pretty low, but you'll also have at least some compliance left in the suspension. HTH, John

That looks very, very sweet indeed. Looking forward to it.

Door handle repair kit..........THEY ARE NOW AVAILABLE
corozin replied to daves16v's topic in Suppliers Forum
Hi Dave, Require a pair of repair kits (one for each side please).UK postage. Can you PM me prices & payment instructions - many thanks John -
Despite Ken Block's obvious skill (and if you think that YouTube link was good look for his Gymkahna video) we should not forget that Colin McRae did win the World Rally Championship, something which Block hasn't even entered been entered for IIRC.

Yeah, I did my tank commander training down there 10 years ago. Its great fun whizzing 'round in a Challenger 2 on the tarmac, at what feels like breakneck speed (but which is only about 30mph) in 60 tonnes of armoured box. In a car, it'll be great too. I hope it dry though, as that concrete surface can be quite slippery when it rains... You'll see but will miss out on the knife edge experience...now that is good fun! :D Not wishing to be a sourpuss, especially when an event is organised for charity, but I saw this event advertised on pistonheads as well and I'd certainly advise to think hard before committing to do a track day on an unknown surface like this, especially when it's more normally used to carry tanks. WIll the whole 7 miles have been swept of stones & debris? What are the safety & marshalling arrangements for a 7 mile loop? Given the lengths of some of the straights you might as well go for a free late night run up the motorway IMHO. The Nurburgring is a almost continuous sequence of bends; this track looks like an airfield day but with straights five times as long... Would be more fun in a tank I think :)

VR6 Written off by idiots with concrete blocks
corozin replied to daytona600's topic in General Car Chat
My advice? Forget the Police. Obtain a shotgun. Track them down. Execute them without mercy. You live in the country. Obtain vengence the country way. (well you wanted advice...) -
I have to say I think you should consider an appeal. Of course it depends on exactly how loud your exhaust is; most VR6 systems are quite mild. My VR6 has a Magnex system which is checked at trackdays and only registers 84db for example. The point of contention (and appeal) surely has to be the definition of what is "excessive". I very much doubt that VOSA has any data on how noisy a standard Corrado should be and this whole area is highly subjective in terms of current law. For a MOT tester to simply spot an aftermarket exhaust at test and fail it 'because it sounds a bit noisy' is not good enough - it really does have to be excessive. The Police already have some powers in this area but there should be no issues at all if your car is under 100db. I've heard of Subaru owners falling foul of this problem, but those cars often make a lot more than 100db with aftermarket exhausts. I would suggest that rather than depend on what people tell you, that you go to the VOSA website and research the relevant regulations yourself. If an MOT station is failing you unfairly that may be cause for complaint against them. It also may just be easier to seek out another MOT station (or pop in to get a second opinion before you pay for the test). If you can, find someone with a sound meter who can measure the noise (measure at around 75% of maximum revs from 1 metre away). It will be much easier to argue if you actually know the numbers involved. Did the MOT station actually measure the noise or was it based on subjective opinion? Gather your facts and make your case accordingly. Good luck - John

Someone's got a little too excited over the Top Gear episode
corozin replied to Pat_McCrotch's topic in General Car Chat
He'd help himself a lot if he could actually write and spell properly. The advert looks like it was written by a six year old. -
Sorted! :D Joking aside, it wasn't quite as bad today, thankfully! [Cue obvious gag] That's because the battery is running down.

Sorry Wendy I forgot you are a man confined to a woman's body. I must remember to tell Glenn you think his car is pufty next time I see him

Well frankly a Boxster S makes tons of sense in every sense doesn't it. They're fairly cheap now, handle as well if not better than any other Porker and they're decently quick, but of course I also understand that Boxsters might be a little persona non-grata with you now that Glenn has one aren't they? haha. Seriously Boxster prices have bottomed out I think. Of course the running costs are still full-Porsche money. I recall Glenn saying that rear tyres for his Box-S are £400 each if you put P-Zeros on it... £400 each!!!

Thats a handy bit of news. But if ordering from the US today make sure you pay via credit card to get the current exchange rate. If you pay by bank transfer there is always a delay of a couple of days and you get the transaction rate on the day it completes I believe.

coilovers or rolled arches that is the question
corozin replied to charly_vrsexy's topic in Drivetrain
You could remove the offending material with an angle grinder or some nibblers. You'll need to smooth down the edges & coat them so they don't rust. But since your rubbing problem is at the back you'll probably be very close to hitting the rear dampers as well. Or you could buy some wheels with the correct ET in the first place, that's always a nice way to avoid trouble. :? -
Accident damage should be straightforward, i.e. "you bend it, you pay for it". The running/maintenance costs can be pooled budget. There are lots of people who can give you an idea what sort of money should be set aside for a MkII track car, including Andy Balm who (I think still) has a trackday Golf. I know of a MkII that was caged & made track ready for under £500... including the purchase cost! The conflicts are more likely over who has to store the car, who/how will fix when stuff breaks, and arguments over new modifications. But to be honest about it if you're going to build a really fun trackday car you want a car with RWD. An E30 BMW would be as cheap to buy, prepare, repair & run but it would ultimately be more satisfying than a Golf to drive on track.

West Sussex Police have an unmarked silver Mercedes C-class. Presumably the council tax around Chichester/Arundel is a bit more than in Gloucs if they can only afford Henrys :D

The stock one is definately not red. Of course it could have been painted. At a guess I'd say you have a free Eibach upgrade.
