  1. I was going to say.... shows what I know doesn't it?
  2. Hi, I think the main issue you might consider with going for an "early dash" VR6 is that most of the internal trim bits for that dash & door cards are now no longer available from VW stock. (Not that certain items of late trim are now unavailable too!). I have a 94/L car which has the facelift dash/door cards but the earlier "rocker" type sunroof switch which I have to say I prefer to the late "bubble" sunroof switch. It's all down to personal taste but I prefer the later interiors, especially if you can get a leather interior. I think the days where Storms were more collectable are now passing by. There are so few Corrados in circulation these days that all good quality cars are now sought after, almost regardless of the model. If a Storm floats your boat then go for it, but personally I'd look out more for just a well looked after car.
  3. I struggle to believe that Ferrari will field Badoer in Italy despite his nationality. Alonso will not happen until 2010 earliest, and given his performance at Spa, I can't see Fisicella being poached for the next race without significant legal challenges from Force India. At the weekend Stefano Dominicali said in an interview with the BBC that Ferrari will make thier plans for the rest of 2009 clear "in the next 3 days". This announcement is expected to encompass the decision on the possible replacement of Badoer, as well as to clarify the outlook regarding the Massa/Alonso/Raikkonen seating plan in 2010. A lot will depend on whether Massa is expected to recover enough to compete. That announcement should therefore be coming today/tomorrow. Raikkonen's improved performance in the past 3-4 races has complicated the decision for Ferrari, although I'm sure it's been very welcome at Maranello. They now have an injured driver they want back, a driver they've made no secret of seeking out, and a past champion who has now rediscovered his brilliant form. But more to the point none of these drivers is able to solve the immediate problem of Badoer's lack of pace. Given that the candidate must have a superlicence I Ferrari will be looking either at one of the eligible drivers who've tested in F1 last year, or perhaps a hotshoe from GP2. Whoever is selected will also have to accept that they will not have a Ferrari drive in 2010 almost regardless of how quick they prove to be. They also have to be acceptable to Ferrari's sponsors. Some pundits have mentioned Germany's Nico Hulkenberg but I don't think the successor is that obvious. I guess we'll just have to wait & see? John (apologies for the lack of a conclusion in this post!)
  4. Frankly if you're starting from a G60 it would make a lot more sense to upgrade to a 20vt rather than do the VR6 conversion. You'll have potentially the same power and will I suspect spend a lot less getting there. If you're going to all the trouble to swapping the G60 for a VR6 you might as well not piss about and look for a 24v 2.8 rather than a 12v. Especially if you're going to turbo the thing later. Just my 2p.
  5. There are (apparently) three new teams coming in next year, established drivers will have to join the market, but let's face it would anyone miss the talented but uninspiring Jarno Trulli if he were to be left without a seat? I liked the look of the GlosterOx's list above BTW, except for the selection of Grosjean at Renault. I think Briatore would be more likely to take a chance on Raikonnen, believing he can remotivate him.
  6. *cough* Big-Ron's no longer invloved in the F1 business anymore...*cough* He hasn't exactly left MacLaren though has he? He's still overall group Chairman and one of the key stock owners. Martin Whitmarsh runs the racing team, but Ron Dennis runs MacLaren.
  7. My car wearing it's old warpaint at Castle Combe 2008, plus a gratuitous action shot of Ken Lark's racing car in action from 2004
  8. I think MacLaren will keep Heikki in 2010. He's starting to show some form again & MacLaren don't like switching drivers too often compared to some of the other teams. Raikonnen just hasn't been either fast or consistent enough during the past two seasons to be worth hiring. Massa has been consistently faster and Alonso is about to get his seat at Ferrari. Kubica is fast enough, but somehow I can't see them picking him somehow. But if Heikki is shown the door, my money is on Nico Rosberg getting the drive. Don't forget daddy used to drive for Ron...
  9. "Got it from a friend On him you can depend I found out in the end It was a piece of crap" Lyric : Neil Young, 1994.
  10. I agree with Dave. The front end looks slightly out of proportion (large) to the rest of the car. Will be interesting to see how this sells, or whether people will hang on for the VW Bluesport. Certainly the era of the TT is coming to a close now I think
  11. Obviously insurance might be an issue for younger owners than me, but if/when I swap out I'm going for either an M5 or a Jag XJR. The lure of a rwd uber-saloon with 400bhp is currently pretty strong in the corozin household :) If MkIV R32's continue to depreciate at the current rate I might consider one, but frankly a Subaru would be less money and faster. But I'm sure that when my replacement engine is in the VR6 I'll probably fall in love with it all over again (yes - another engine)
  12. Not a surprise at all, especially when you consider how much sponsorship Santender are currently ploughing into Formula One. But more to the point it would have been ludicrous to ban Renault for an incident like that when there have been other similar incidents where race-bans were not meted out in punishment. When you consider the actual consequences in each case it's arguable that Brawn should also be serving a race ban for parts falling off thier own car and causing injury.
  13. I'm sorry you feel that way. I think you're being a little naieve of how the industry works. I stopped taking Evo a couple of years ago simply because I became fed up with issue after issue containing fawning articles on both the Clio 182 and the BINI. It really did get boring as they just tried to find new ways to re-road test the same bloody cars over and over again. Evo's blinkered love affair with Porsche has been in full flow since the very first issue. The photography in there is still the best in the industry but in my view both the quality or variety of the articles has deteriorated from the early years. But obviously that's only a personal opinion. I certainly got bored reading about the 182 every month,
  14. Well Evo, like a number of car magazines, depends on the motor manufacturers for advertising revenue. They are also dependant on a certain amount of co-operation and preferential treatment to get stories & scoops. No point in biting the hand that feeds.
  15. Slightly O/T and borrowed from a blog but I thought it was amusing enough to include it
  16. Wheels 18's don't necessarily ruin the handling. On a road car you'd probably consider running a 30 profile tyre so as not to affect the gearing/tacho of the car but on a racing car this is not a consideration. Lark's car runs on control race tyres with the equivalent of a 40-section profile, there is no tacho, the gearsets are changed from the road car, and the suspension is race stiff & cambered, and the wheel arches were cut & rewelded to accept the larger wheels too. In other words a lot of work was carried out to ensure the car could run the biggest brakes available. Panels There used to be a carbonfibre bonnet panel for sale a few years ago but I'm unaware of any other lightweight Corrado panels being available. To be honest you should be able to get a lot of weight out just by doing the obvious things, but if you're obsessing about light weight for your VW track car then you should have bought a Mk1 or Mk2 Golf instead. Rack You just need to get a Corrado steering rack. Someone told me a few years ago that the Seat Leon rack can be used in the Corrado but you'd need to look into that & check. I'm not sure if that would be cheaper to buy than a Corrado one or not but it's worth a thought I suppose
  17. Your thread should be locked for being too lazy to even post links mate. Seriously though I'm unsure what use any responses would be to you. A car for sale is only as good as it's last owner in my view. A previously well kept car could have been completely neglected by it's current owner, or a previously knackered car could have been restored by it's current owner. The questions you seem to be harbouring only realistically be answered by (a) a thorough inspection when you view the car, or better still an AA/RAC check and (b) an HPI check. Don't rely on anything anyone tells you about a specific car in an ad or on an internet forum. I wouldn't, anyway.
  18. If it is a fixed or mobile camera they must issue the NIP within 10 working days. The 6 month prosecution period only applies in cases where you are stopped at the roadside and dealt with in person by an officer.
  19. Frankly with the state of the German manufacturers power war 425bhp isn't even a warm hatchback anymore. If Audi want to make a statement they need to put the 672bhp RS6 engine into the R8 and turn the boost up. Even an M3 has more than 425bhp these days.
  20. I'm hazarding a guess that it'll only be a couple of months until A1 VR6 has that baby running on 18" BBS LMs with a Milltek exhaust. And what about the soundsystem Bill? May require updgrades if it's to be your daily, LOL
  21. That looks really nice Bill, hope you have some fun with it. I almost can't believe you prised yourself away from those diesel runabouts after all these years. Hope you don't miss the 60mpg+ side of TDi too much :)
