  1. 5 got low, but I think this guy got even lower. (Requires sound, not safe for work)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvDDDKnNhuE
  2. Hi, I don't have the part number for the coilpack but to be honest I can't see why you'd have a problem as there's no problem ordering this part and getting the wrong one by mistake. I wouldn't get too hung up about it. HTH John
  3. Ok here's another thought about it. Say for example there's a "sticky" thread about induction kits. A new forum user is going to just read it without posting anything. Although some might argue that a sticky thread accumulates everything there is to know about the subject, I could argue that is just the kind of subject a new user might want to ask about, and we're kinda denying them that opportunity, so all the new threads seem to be about really unusual stuff simply because all the mainstream questions in the engine and drivetrain forums are stickied. And we need to encourage people to post a bit. Us existing users should encourage new posting a bit by answering these kinds of posts, even if it's well trodden ground, and not just cut them off by referring to old lengthy threads (with the inference that they should just search rather than ask) But that's just my opinion. I'd be interested to know what others think about it. john
  4. Sorry Ramsay I was at the Pistonheads meet in the New Forest with Mike. I'll send you my number via PM as it's been a few years since we caught up with each other hasn't it. We should sort out a proper South Coast meet & get a few more together. Maybe we can plot a "tourism route" out through the Purbeck range roads and take some scenery in as well. What do you (and others) reckon about doing something like that? Lots of pleasant watering holes in mid-Dorset to hop between! John
  5. Can I ask the mods to have a little trawl through all the stickies on the fora and thin them out a little bit? Reasons for my request as follows: 1) Some are simply old and out of date, for example the 2010 Scotland Trip thread in events section 2) On a number of the fora you have to scroll though quite a few sticky threads to get to the stuff that's moving 3) I honestly believe that the sheer number of stickies is contributing at least in part to the slowdown in posting on here. Whilst the info in stickies is useful to those who want it, it reduces the numbers of questions on some of the technical forums. That might be desirable to some, but I think it's slowly strangling the forums. Others may well disagree but nonetheless I don't think we need quite as many "sticky" threads as we currently have. Thanks for listening :) John
  6. Hi, Since the server migration I am unable to change the title of the above thread which is in the Events Section by altering the title in the original post. @Mods - Can you alter the title of this thread to VW Events Calender (check for updates!) so that the title doesn't have to be changed any more.
  7. Ironically Kip the one I sold on (see above) was one I bought from Judith a few years ago!
  8. Buggerbuggerbugger. I sold one of those to ScarletVR6 two years ago for the £25 I paid for it Buggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbugger
  9. My suggestion is just to resist the temptation. Sure fuel prices are high, but if you're using a VR6 to do big daily driver mileages then you've been bonkers for years. Put another way, people are complaining about the price of fuel, but many of those same people don't seem to worry in the same about the cost of an iPhone 4GS contract or a Sky TV package. Also, despite what's written above if you drive the 1.8t hard you'll be straight back to mid-teen mpgs all over again. Personally I think the VR6 is worth keeping as it is. If you sell it, then there's a good chance you'll weep when you see mine still driving around in Bournemouth with it's luscious engine notes (it's the grey one with black wheels) John
  10. If you don't already have the base Corrado then my suggestion would be to scrap the idea altogether and use a Polo as your starting point. I've just saved you 200kg in weight.
  11. I read that article last night from the link on Pistonheads. What a fabulous rant from one of the UK's better known motoring journos. What I found interesting is that Harris has clearly now well travelled past the point where he gives a fugg whether Ferrari let him drive thier cars ever again. Selling his 575 in a kind of mini-protest seems a bit extreme to me though! But there's a good point about Manufacturers of "cool brands" trying to control the media and access to thier products. Users of Apple products please take note...
  12. Well see how it goes - you never know how it will turn out with the car and it would be good to meet you this time. With my luck my car - which is running running wonderfully - will be a smoking rattling broken piece of crap in three weeks' time :D
  13. Potentially able to do this. Might need directions to the McDonalds in Chichester. Anyone able to put that on Multimap & post a link? John
  14. Hello mods, Is there anything that can be done to increase the permissible size of uploaded pdf files to (say) 70kb-90kb? The reason I ask is that I cannot upload the larger versions of the event calender I do for the events forum. Since jpgs and other file types are allowed significantly larger file sizes than 19.5kb I'm hoping this is something that can be tweaked for the poor pdf format :) Thanks in advance, John
  15. Cars this age are very much sold on condition rather than mileage. Personally I don't regard Storms as being worth more than other VR6s with the same options on them, but others disagree. You need to go through the classifieds on here, Autotrader, Pistonheads, possibly eBay and places like that to gauge what cars are fetching. Tehn you just have to take the plunge and put a price on it. That's the fun part!
  16. I've been running around in Corrados for 13 years now so I have a few memorable stories to tell. Here's a few: 2000 : AmD Back in 2000 we did a Corrado Rolling Road day at AmD's (then) new unit in Bicester. I'd been to the new site already and knew the way so I led the group in from Chieveley. Well I thought I knew the way... cue much hilarity as over a dozen Corrados forced to do a U-Turn down some dead end road in Bicester. Doh. 2008 : The Land Speed Record Returned home to Bournemouth on Christmas Day night from my brother's place in Bletchley. 135 miles in, 1h 22mins. Do the math. 2004 : Drifting at Castle Combe Rain started pouring in the middle of a trackday session at the Autometrix Track Day. Didn't think grip through Folly would be a problem, resulting in a rather magnificent, but unplanned four wheel drift through this fairly open corner at over 100mph. I have the incident on videotape. Kept the throttle pinned - if I hadn't we'd have been off in a big way. 2006 : Spanking Subarus Returning from Le Mans with Butterfly as a passenger after a terrific Corrado group trip to the 24h du Mans. We were all pretty tired. On the outskirts of Bologne, some tosser in an Impreza races up behind me like he's filming getaway in Stockholm whilst we're on the exit ramp from the N138 and parks it a few feet off my rear bumper. We're only doing about 30mph. In a moment of irritation I just floor it around the long looping 270deg corner. The Subaru takes off after me, and I watch in sheer delight as I watch him lose control and narrowly avoid putting his rallycar into a concrete wall on the outside of the corner. I must have forgotton to mention the Quaife diff and R888 tyres I was running on the car at the time. I don't think he ever worked out how we pulled away from him. 2004 : Vorsprung (not) Durch Technic Location : Castle Combe Trackday again. Watching a guy in an Audi Sport Quattro who was chasing me stuff it into the barriers under braking at Quarry corner. Only the second lap of the session, I'd been first out in the queue and he was behind me. I was just trying to stay out of his way! I don't think he realised I run monster brakes... he tried to follow me flat out over the Avon Rise (on the lead to Quarry) and that's where he went wrong. Lot of damage to the Quattro. Shame. 2003 : Land Speed Record 2 V-maxxing my old car at 158mph with a GPS verifying the velocity. A considered and planned exercise, and a one off. In Germany of course. 2010 : The Scotland Trip I've driven in Scotland many times as I have close friends there, but considered as a whole, the 9 day tour of Scotland that Wendy organised last Summer was truly memorable. I covered over 1,400 miles, we were driving every day on some of the country's most picturesque roads, with great mates, and met lots of top folks whilst we were up there too (you know who you are!). The day spent crossing the west coast lochs between Glasgow and Oban was particularly spectacular. 2005 : Le Mans donuts First night on campsite at 2005 Le Mans. Everyone else had gone to bed and two of us remained awake trying to stay "hydrated". Must have been about 3am. Across the car park we suddenly heard a crowd cheering loudly and then car being properly revved against it's limiter for perhaps 30s-40s. When the engine stopped we noticed the cheering had stopped too. Curious (and fairly drunk) we picked up out beers and pottered over to investigate. A scene of destruction cleared as the dust settled in an open area in front of the toilets/shower area. A brit had taken a bet that he could do a donut in a SL55 AMG and had actually scribed some beautiful circles. What he hadn't counted on was that the 1.8 ton car had dug it's tyres into the surface, and had shot hardcore in every direction for 30 yards. We counted at least 15 cars with broken windows and body damage, including a handful of Lotuses, a 911, the windows in the shower block and the driver's own Skyline GTR. The AMG didn't have a scratch on it! Try getting a new windscreen for a grey import Skyline at Le Mans in June before you have to go home on Monday. I shouldn't laugh but it was pretty funny...
  17. That could explain a lot then, because my dealer thinks it's in Milton Keynes :)
  18. I use the ashtray myself. Time for a poll! Poll! Poll! Poll! :)
  19. The UK parts store is in Milton Keynes but a lot of Corrado stuff (if you can still get it) is back order from Germany and that mostly takes 7-10 days. The dealer should probably have told you if the parts were in Germany - mine always warns me anyway.
  20. My Corrado has extra sensory perception. It can sense with uncanny accuracy how much cash I have saved up and magically help itself to all but a few quid of that amount every month. Does anyone else have that feature? I looked on the boot sticker but I can't find the option code for it anywhere.
  21. Curiously I have one touch windows on my '93 VR6 but the full closure works for both windows and Sunroof. I think your manual has an error Yan :) Second point to add re the intermittent wipers, the maximum time is 22s from recollection. Doesn't sound like much but it is on the road. The way I've always set the interval is to wait until the rainfall interferes with the vision and then hit the second wipe (setting the interval). My new added pub fact for the thread is that if you have VR6 with the 205 width wheels, the bucket seats in the rear are actually the perfect size for carrying four wheels upright. It's almost like it was designed that way... John
  22. That of course, is based on the assumption that my car will be working at the same time as yours so I can get over to you! What are the chances of that? LOL
  23. Fingers crossed it works out this time Charlie. Looking forward to a passenger ride sometime actually! The previous turbo conversions have always managed to spring a problem before I've managed to get a ride in it! BTW I like your new steering wheel. Very nice. John
