Ultimate Dubs uk - Telford International Centre
corozin replied to ozzit's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
This may seem strange to you but my experience last year was almost the exact opposite of what you've said. There were some really excellent cars there but frankly too many Golfs boring the place stupid on Bentley and Lambo wheels - ideas which came and went 4-5 years ago really. One the other hand we spent ages poking around the traders, and there were a lot at this show. A couple too many people selling just tools perhaps but a pretty decent selection compare to most shows these days. There are always deals to be had if you're motivated enough to haggle hard enough. But the best part was the drive up there, and especially down the M54 to Telford. We turned the place in Getaway in Stockholm. I dreamed I saw almost 150mph chasing my mate's RS4 down there (with him rapidly pulling away as it happens) but maybe it was just a dream and everyone else was doing 20mph. Roll on this year. Hopefully up in Telford for the whole weekend this year :) -
What a bloody mess. My first reaction was that it looked like a big red BMW M Coupe. That wasn't a particularly pretty car but the BMW is a lot prettier than this. They'll be making MPVs next. It really is sad to see the legendary Ferrari marque devalue as they grasp away at almost anything to stick the prancing horse onto.

Not being funny but did you try contacting Qpeng about this? I have it on good advice from a friend that they are more than helpful with adivce if you have an issue with your install.

Hi mate, Agree 100% with the tip to stick to Friday & Saturday only. You can shorten the journey a bit by flying to Eastleigh (Southampton) & hiring a car for the weekend. Not sure if you can fly there from Aberdeen but Flybe certainly go there from Edinburgh. About 70 minutes airtime instead of 11 hours on the road. I think you're looking at something around 600 miles each way if you drive it. Accomodation wise Chichester & Littlehampton are closest by, and there should guest houses available if you're looking to book now. If you want a night out on Friday as well you might be better in Southampton, which is about 30 miles away. Bournemouth is 70 miles distant - further than you may think. On the day the crowds do pile in there, but the gates open at 7am daily and if you get yourself there before 8am you'll beat the crowds and park closer to the gate as well. I havn't been to the FoS for a few year, but from previous experience getting there early is also a great idea as I've bumped into both Stirling Moss and Gordon Murray (amongst others) having a quiet look around the Cathedral Paddock before the crowds arrive. It's a nice bonus. The event is well signposted from the A27 in Chichester. Let me know if you do come down. I might be persuaded to come & meet you on the Friday or something as I'm not too far away. Let me know if there's anything else I can answer for you. Cheers John

Being a Lotus it will probably fail to start about every third day. Being a Lotus it will start to develop electrical gremlins within about a month and will never be the same after that. Ever. Being a Lotus the first car that rams it in a pursuit will completely trash it, as the bodywork is made from fibreglass Being a Lotus enjoy watching the porky West Midlands police officers try and extract themselves from the car as the TWOC'cers run off down the alley Being a Lotus it will be bugger all use as anything other than a pursuit car as there is no space at all for any of the normal trafpol equipment Nice bit of free publicity, but crap as a Police car I suspect. Remember : Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious

My first trackday... any southerners would like to join me?

Alas I am not a novice. -
Thanks for that, I will try and give young Dave a shout tomorrow about it. As for prices, I haven't got as far as that yet, but my garage source most of thier VW parts from TPS, which will mean I get genuine (Bosch) parts at a lot less than the VW Dealers will quote even to the trade. When I've got the prices I'll post them up for reference. Cheers! John

You'd think they'd have updated the wheels for the MK6. That design has been around for bloody ages Not that most of the Goofs around Birmingham seem to end up with Bentley wheels these days. I think we've also reached a point where the iconic Golf design has evolved to the extent that BBS no longer suit the look of the car. But overall the car is nice. Be interesting to see whether a grey one looked as good as the black one does. :norty:

Not sure if this would pass the MoT here!!

Those whacky americans! I can't help thinking if I was going to go to all the trouble of putting a jet engine into a VW I'd put it in something a bit better than a crappy new Beetle! (better fitted in an "old" Beetle in fact) Here's something similar, from the collection of bookmarks : http://www.mademan.com/porsche-boeing-turbine-engine/ -
Ok this might not be the ideal outcome for a thread I started, but in the absence of someone who someone who has actually fitted a later starter I've made the decision to replace the starter with a new OE (Bosch) one. I have a garage doing the work, and I can't afford the chance of ordering something something else and taking the chance, not to mention the potential financial hit, of a different starter not fitting. Sorry if this sounds a little bit like wussing out but on this occasion I'm not going to experiment. But thanks for the info, questions asked and responses posted. Will just have to wait for someone a bit more adventurous to find out what the swap fits like. John

I wonder if some bunny boiler that Chris thought he was having a one-nighter with has actually stolen them in an attempt to force him onto a second date. So you have to ask yourself Chris, is the loss of your reputation, freedom, money and dignity involved in a "long term" relationship (i.e. more than one date) worth the recovery of your VW key? What a dilemma... poor fellow :bounce2: :bounce2: :bounce2: :bounce2: :bounce2: :bounce2:

Chris, Look for the blonde one trying to start her Corsa with your VW key. That will be the one. Hope this helps, John

It will indeed be inspected almost daily john, the body shop is literally 1/4 mile from where i work  Good luck with the stress Kip. I hear that tamazapan is a good way to control it. Get your horse-dosages this weekend. Then start to stress over the decision whether you will be taking the VR6 or your newly painted nugget to Stanford Hall this spring, haha

Is doing this to a C bad? Now with additional pictures

Mostly they get rid of the carbon canister which sits in the hole under the airbox and route the intake through the hole to a nice 57i or similar behind the bumper. Simples. :D -
I might be able to find that part number out - watch this space :)
-
It hadn't even left the safety of our garage and he was stressed out this morning. :help: Is the car going to get daily inspection visits from the Kipster whilst they're rebuilding it? I don't believe the stress has even started yet! Good luck with the repairs. Make sure they don't paint it flat grey by accident, haha

Correct - if you want to know if it is actually a Storm... or at least started its life as one then call a dealer with the chassis number from the V5, they can confim either way. You can look it up on ETKA (for anyone that has a copy)
-
 :notworthy: Watch it, ferret boy :D

Trust me a lot of us have been there. In my case some of my own car's history revealed itself when it went into a bodyshop and I discovered that (via evidence of some beautifully applied filler which appeared when the existing paint was removed) that it had been shunted at both ends during it's pre-Corozin life. No probs.
-
Excellent, that's progress towards the goal part. Thank you. Has anyone fitted the MkIV R32 starter successfully then?
-
Well apologies if you got upset, but I'm struggling to understand why you're concerned about the car's history after you've bought it. A post like this is risky, because you may just find out something about it that you then wish you hadn't asked. A case in point was a number of years ago when I answered a similar request and the owner then discovered his newly acquired car had belonged once to a friend of mine, and had magically "lost" over 30,000 miles in the period after my mate had owned it. Be careful what you wish for. BTW there's nothing wrong with my spelling but you need to check your own, and more so in a post where you criticise mine.
-
With 8 owners, apparently two resprays, a couple of plate identity changes, and what look like some rather dubious wheels - are you sure you really want a "Storm" with that kind of history? It should at least be a cheap one I suppose, but frankly you'd be better off buying a normal VR6 car with optional leather and a less opaque history.
