  1. Some good pics there Phil, thanks for sharing. Not totally sure if lime green wheel paint goes with a red car, but each to his own!
  2. Do they do Corrado parts these folks? That wasn't quite the impression I got looking at the website. Perhaps we need to lobby for 'classic' status for some watercooled models! If we weren't so VW-potty and had bought either BMWs or Mercs we'd be in such a better position. Both those companies comprehensively support thier old models parts wise, albeit at a cost in some cases.
  3. Agreed it was good to see so many folks at the AGM yesterday, and to meet some new folks I didn't know as well. Rams, Ron & I had a good run back to the coast once we got off the M40. Traffic was heavy but it was moving along nicely. All looking forward to this season now, both for VW shows and lots of motorsport. And roll on Shelsey Walsh in July, when we'll have both in the same place :D
  4. Bit of a scare yesterday with the car (burst coolant pipe and it was the "tricky" one) but thanks to Rams I think I'm ok to drive tomorrow rather than being a passenger.
  5. Nope, will be at the CCGB AGM, where all good Corrado owners should be tomorrow! :D
  6. Charlie you should put your car in the S&S, parked next to James if I might suggest :)
  7. What me? No. Not at all. I'm not saying I don't drive quickly, but I've never raced anyone on the road. But I heard that you raced off down the road from Stealth when you had your first turbo engine built, when they specifically told you to run it in gently? Is that story as true as the one you've decided from somewhere to quote about me? Here we go again... John
  8. I will be there, but my car's paintwork needs some fixing so I'll probably avoid the club stand this year. I know I had a couple of years where I parked it up with every panel knackered and unwashed, but that was properly "ratty" condition. It's half nice now, too good to be ratty, and not good enough to be showy. Dammit! Looking forward to another wonderful Stoner though. It is easily the most enjoyable day out on the VW show circuit.
  9. Real men take it on the track. Plus, on a more serious note you a) Won't get risk some poor innocent soul getting caught up in your stupid games & getting hurt b) You'll have a far greater range of performance cars to test yourself against But prepare yourself, you won't be the fastest. Not by a long chalk. But then I suspect you're only interested in a race you know you can win, aren't you? John
  10. Of course there is another story to be told. Check the running costs & blog on my sig. And weep.
  11. Don't all rush out. I'm waiting to see if the petrol companies actually change the prices on the forecourts tomorrow. Let's face it, they don't exactly have a spotless record at passing on decreases in prices quickly do they?
  12. The Corrado Forum hasn't done a stand at Stoner for a few years now. The CCGB always have one though. The past couple of years they've hooked up on a joint display with the Scirocco register which is nice. But if there's no CF stand and your not in the CCGB just pay the small fee and put your (presumably smart) car on the S&S - that's what everyone else does :)
  13. Yeah absolutely mate, I was just thinking the same thing. It's about 2 hours to Gaydon (125 miles) if you go sensibly. I half fancy a look around the museum before the AGM kicks off so was thinking about leaving here around 9am (ish) and getting there for 11:00-11:30? @Rocket Ron (and anyone else coming up from the south coast) - meet you en route at Sutton Scotney services on the A34 north of Winchester at around 09:45am? Gentle drive up. No hurling along... Anyone else from the central south coast want to join then pipe up and we'll get organised. As a little bonus I know a good open road route from Banbury into Gaydon which should finish the journey off nicely. Possible hurling along on that bit :D Cheers, John
  14. Actually the price isn't too bad if you think of the Bentley that's underneath it, but to be honest I read through the eBay ad and it looks like it's being sold by pikeys or something. Increasing amounts of bold text, getting larger and larger the further you go, and then the large red text... gave me a headache just looking at it. Clearly the current owner is a moron. First he bought the car, and then secondly does he actually believe an advert like that will sell it?
  15. I actually quite like the colour, but IMHO those Reiger body kits were a bit dated looking even in the mid 90s. There weren't that many complaints when Take That reformed but there are some things about the 1980s which are better forgotton, and that kit is one of them.
  16. That blue MkIV in the first photo was almost comical. I've seen stretched tyres but these was just dangerous. Andy665 & I spent a while looking at those wheels in sheer disbelief. We concluded that the wheels had to have been fitted on site. Any Police officer seeing those wheels on the road would have impounded the car on the spot. Which moves me neatly along to the other point. I utterly fail to see the point of spending shedloads of money on features like this which can only be fitted at the showground. I mean removing numberplates & stuff is ok, but this must have cost a lot of money and trouble to do these wheels. And for what? So the car can't be driven to the show safely and then you put them on and it just looks stupid. I've run cars with stretches myself in the past but this was just dangerous. At least it wasn't my money being hosed up the wall.
  17. I'm not expert but 10 weights sounds like a lot to me. I've never had more than three fitted to a wheel on ANY car I've owned. A proper fitter would use the correct sized weights, and put them in the right position, rather than sprinking them everywhere and apparently hoping.
  18. Here's a thing. Not every single part is on ETKA. But if you speak to a dealer they can find out what it was. Back in the day I think they used to use ERWIN in parallel with ETKA, but now I believe they have different software. Circling back to your original post, if you are pulling it all apart to fit coilovers anyway, I would recommend checking the state of the suspension bushes and the anti-roll bar links. Since you're already in there it's an easy check, plus going down the lower/firmer springs route will put a bit more pressure on it all so make sure it's in good nick. In fact it would be a good time to poly-bush the front suspension if you want to do the ultimate job. HTH, John
  19. No you're not. Mother's day is no more than a cynical attempt by the card and pub industry to cajole business out of you. If you're good to your Mum all year round then she'll understand. :)
  20. So I guess there's going to be one less person at Spring Festival then, am I right? :D
  21. Mate I ain't even joking about it. Only a few weeks before the first one went I happened to be doing over 150mph on them. If a bearing had collapsed at that speed it would have been curtains for me. That's why I'm still a bit animated about it now - 12 months later.
