GREY definately. and when its not pinking ie when its at 90 degrees on the oil it revs right round without a hint of any smoke at all. its allways just after it pinks

whens its really bad it will do it 3 or 4 times between 3.5k and 5k!

Kev, where can i get vag com and how much for it with a leed? I bought an old P2 laptop the other day just because it had a dvd player and had bearly been used, asum that would do the trick though? its a big enough hesitation to spoil the performance. im talking 1-2 seconds rather than a split second and enough to blow a load of smoke out when it does it!

Do you think on my car with my mileage they are likely to be toast then Dr? are we talking £20 each ? If so its worth doing anyways i surpose as atempt no 1 to cure it? I assumed it was the ecu kicking in to stop the pinking though, as it only ever does it for a split seond then picks up again with no pinking?? I have had cars that will pinking continually if you labour them in a hi gear, its not prolonged like that though?

ahhh, yes but i have a problem. Someone has put too smaller screw in the back of mine. its too loose to unscrew as it just keeps dropping back down, but its too tight to pull out with a magnet!! Hence 2 months with no main beam and no idea how to get the h/light out!!

What sensors are these then? Same as cam position ones or crank speed thingy? Sorry, any chance of a list of these sensor things? I did get the ecu reset drove it a mile in traffic and stopped it for the whole day. Reading other threads that may have confussed it i guess? Def something wrong though (and i allways use optimax)

My VR pinks when up to full temp. Never before 3k but if its hot it pinks badly between 3-4 usually, with a nice big hisitation, puff of smoke and horrid cat smell. Usually about 3500, then maybe again at just over 4k. Its fine when its showing 80-95 on the oil temp, but once its up to normal 108-112 cruising temp it does it all the time. Sitting in traffic makes it far worse when you blast away again. Its not so bad with the bmc but still does it with or without the cold air feed to varying degrees. I have changed: Plug Leads Plugs Lots of cooling stuff which is all now where it should be This really worries me and i drive around it now as i dont want to burn out the top of a piston. What should i do next?? Im thinking of venting the bonnet or wing to let some cooler air in!!!! PS: Lamda thingy is original 1994 with 121k on the books, and mine has never had any sensors done either. But vag com shows nout ?? ??

Yes i'm borred, but thought this might bring up some funnies....... 1. I don't know how they did it but any standing water on the roof with the window cracked open runs straight into the eletric window switches at the bottom of the door pod. Works perfectly ever time! 2. I'm allways catching my shirt on the top corner of the window rubber or the door pin getting in. Lost three shirts and 1 door pin so far! Thankfully no window rubber damage yet! £££s !! 3. Should it really be so much trouble to change the passenger headlight bulb!

Its still pinking & misfiring at 3-4k, looks like a 4x4 and the suspension will fail the mot on 1 aug for shocks/springs/top mounts/bumpstops/rear bushes and wishbone bushes and I still think it handles well! Plus its done 121k now on the original chains and my third set of zimmer frames are warping again. Heartbrake hotel baby, but I love it and its staying…….. N

I would think clean the throttle body and the breather tubes out. Assume you will re-use your maf etc. The rest should burn away very quickly if theres any in the chambers ? I;m no expert though Whats the mileage though, as if its done 100k+ it would be a lot lot easier doing the chains and tensioner out of the car me thinks & clutch etc ?

Dinkus, definately a head gasket and timing chains hey....lol Jhanlon, 1 - Check your header tank cap for leakage 2 - Check thermostat housing (it below the black plastic coilpack where all the plug leads go 3 - Check the water pipe that goes to the back of the cylinder head, where it meets the head. You will be very unlucky if its anyworse than these. Mine needed all 3 doing but hasnt used a drop since. Cheers Nick

Fitted my BMC at the weekend and fitted a VF engine mount using my garages facilities on the way to work thismonring. Its now driving and sounding rather well.................

An absolute raddo frenzy today!!!!!!!! Popped into waitrose (salisbury) and parked next to another Aqua Blue C (K Plate 16v), v-straight tidy & totally original! Walked past 4 cars and what do you know a bright red immaculate VR6, totally original and V nice on mint speedlines. Come back out and a white M plate VR6 has parked behind me, also v tidy. Drove back into work and passed a blue vr on dished alloys. What a wonderful day.......................

Ahh man, sorry to here this mate, makes your blood boil and theres f..k all you can do about it without being locked up yourself these days, c..ts! I hit the accademy for the first time in Dec, great atmosphere, but not saying who was playing! If it makes you feel any better, my parents have a C Reg Audi Coupe 5cl as a 2nd car, 38000mls from new bought from neibour who drove it to footy on a sunday. It was MINT and I mean MINT! Woke up Sat morning some pikeys had picked up a metal scafold pole and smashed every window on it just for a laugh. Trouble is they managed to hit just about every pillar on the car! They still have it, now with new glass but all the dents are still there. I'm actually really glad i didnt catch them to be honest!

No, could never happen, it would be far too cheap to fix! Sweet motor Joe btw, fab paint job. Hurts spending that kinda money but i bet you just stare at it all the time now.

Mine does that Matt, and it squeeks/hums very slightly sometimes when I pull away, thought it was all mount related. CAN I JUST ASK--------Who on this forum has had a timing chain failure ?

I did a track day in my golf vr (118k at the time, totally untouched), and i could not get it over 110, just couldnt. Other half vento would go over 100 being ragged to peices. My vr sits at 112/114 on a gentle 80 mph run, just feel swrong to me, everything gets too hot. I will be able to enjoy it much more with one of these fitted. If i had no previous VR record id probably be oblivious, but i have and its too hot for my liking in camparison. Must put a strain on everything.

Prob because they are less common nowadays. Everyone buys 17s, me included. And i have to say my ride quality is rubbish now..and thats on std suspension!!
