1. Normal. It won't be there when the engine is running. Early diagnostics like the Corrado's didn't surpress the fault code when the engine is stopped. The code for the camshaft sensor is 00515.
2. 00513 - Engine running or just ignition? .
3. VCDS is VAGCOM's new product name. Due to VAG Germany (ie VW etc.) enforcing their corporate name being poached. VagCom Diagnostic System. Well at least once you know, you will at least be able order the right part first time round at the VW dealers :) So has the logbook been changed? The highest engine number for a Corrado production at the end in June 1995 was around ABV018500. Pretty busy Sunday eh? :) .
4. It may be still there on the right side vertical face of the cam cover by the MAF behind the two fuel pipes. A white sticker with the engine code & serial number. I assumed with age its come off which is why I pointed you to the back left side of the engine block. Can't remember if the cylinder block is cast with 2.8 or 2.9 on it. Somebody will pipe up but I think its on the back face above the sump pan level or round the front by the oil cooler. Get a screen shot of the VCDS engine Controller screen and post. But I suspect the ECU is the original. . .
5. Why change the head? Not in the paperwork with the car's history? Corroded head / head gasket. Used to be a failure in early days, maybe the original head had gone to far to skim it out, so one came off a scrap engine because of the cost of a new one. Who knows but it wasn't on when it left the factory. But if the engine was replaced also, its only a 2.8ltr engine possibly. At the back of the engine if its still visible, it will either be stamped ABV (2.9) or AAA (2.8 ). Its on a rusty top surface on the cast engine block under the Auxiliary Water Pump. May need some thin oil or WD40 to enhance it. Its only lightly stamped into the metal. .
6. 06A 905 161A is a valid part number. Looks like at some stage a Sharan 1996 - 2000 or Transporter 1998 - 1998 VR6 2.8ltr cylinder head has been fitted. .
7. Even the securing bolt position is different on the head which why I've said its not the original cylinder head. The electrical connector is Mk4 era. Not a nightmare, just get the part number off the one fitted, it may be 028 907 319B when you get there but DO check it physically before rushing off to the parts department. .
8. Listen and carb spray is one way to do it. I have some VW stuff but I don't know whats in it. G 001 800 A1 - Engine Leak Detection Spray for Air Intake Systems 200ml. Picked it up at a show for 50p. Normally £15 - £20 iirc. Intake System, Checking For Leaks (False Air) Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required • Engine leak detection spray G 001 800 A1 Test conditions • The parking brake must be applied. • On vehicles with automatic transmission, selector lever must be in position "P" or "N". • Coolant temperature must be at least 80 degrees C . Test sequence NOTE: • The negative pressure in the intake system sucks in the leak detection spray with the false air. Leak detection spray decreases ignition quality of the fuel mixture. This leads to a decrease in engine speed and a change in oxygen sensor values. • The safety precautions listed on the can must be observed. • Connect Vehicle Diagnostic and Service Information System VAS **** (Use VCDS[VAGCOM]). Connecting • Start engine and run at idle speed. • Start VCDS (VAGCOM). • Select Engine - 01 "Engine ECU", Measuring blocks group 001. Observe field 1 & 3 for RPM & Lambda values during test spraying.
9. Standard (threads to shoulder) is 27mm + Spacer = 40mm required. (For a standard VW wheel.) Your link is 35mm. http://www.priracing.com/product.php/2867/157/bolt---radius-seat-m14x1-5--40mm-shaft-length--17mm-hex .
10. Looks like the cylinder head has been off & changed. Presume thats somewhere in the history of the car. That grey connector is not standard for the Corrado. You'll have to take the new sensor back with the old sensor part number that is fitted and ask for that part cos obviously as you've found out, the new part you have won't connect. .
11. And when you get at it, make a note of the part number here. .
12. 00533 - First check the ISV - sticking or stuck, including the wiring to it, 2nd look for an air leak between the MAF and Throttle Body, particularly in the duct folds. 00527 - Check the connector on the front left of the inlet manifold side wall directly under the brake servo vacuum pipe connection is connected & wiring OK. Otherwise its the sensor plugged into the inlet manifold sidewall. At room temperature it should measure 2,500 - 3,000 ohms. In boiling water, it will go to 175 - 225 ohm if working correctly. That's if they are not old faults. You cleared them down and they returned? .
13. Besides the Yellow sensor Temp.Gauge /stage 1 fan run on/Aux pump, originally Yellow - 701 919 369C but replaced now by Black/Blue Ring -701 919 369D – 4 pin. Blue is the ECU temp sender is ECU temp. input 025 906 041A – 2 pin, Nope wouldn't shut the fans off. If not got Factory Aircon, its the third stage fan sensor only (don't half know that on when it goes off, might as well start hoovering the place as it really shifts air. Only way I know to trigger on the road is to tank it for a long while on a very hot day and immediately stop with a very hot engine. Or use the car on a track circuit.) That's the Black/Green Ring sensor and the 50 amp plate fuse in the Fan Controller is associated with it. Black/Green is fitted (2 pin) if no factory AirCon. or towing a trailer or if an autobox set-up. 4 pin Brown if factory AirCon was fitted. It adds a cut out switch for the AirCon. It will only be found on LH Drive Corrados. Its linked to the Engine ECU as a signal input from the Engine ECU on 1994 Corado's but not 1991 to 1993. Too hot and the Aircon is disabled. .
14. You've been given the correct part. Here's an original installation That photo is not a RHDrive Corrado engine as it has a EGR valve in the photo. As said its a Golf and was put up to illustrate where the sensor was. .
15. Its known as G4 - Firing Point Sender. And it must be fitted the right way round. Tabs facing the Distributor. If fitted in the wrong position, defective, is open circuit, ignition lead loose or igniton spark missing, it will generate fault code 00514. The only check is that it lines out as 2 ohms max. This is done on the ECU pins 27 (Green wire) & 29 (Red wire) to include the wire resistance. Also check the Black wire (sheilding) goes to earth. .
16. Put a photo up and lets see what you've been given.... .
17. Late Sciroccos had 65 amps 1990 - 1992 on GTII's iirc. Scala Injections in same period of reg plates were 55 amps. Any 90 amp alternator (diesels or earlier Golf/Sciroccos). Check three things, wire connections plug v stud connection, orientation of the mount position relative to the adjuster bolt point and the pulley "v" to alternator body face behind its fan are the same. .
18. This guy supplies ATE original regulators. Side by side they are the same item except no VW symbol or VW part number. ATE marked as per VW. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GOLF-MK3-GTI-VR6-CORRADO-BRAKE-PRESSURE-REGULATOR-C72-/200704548022?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ebaec5cb6 .
19. Take it from me, 00515 causes Limp Home Mode to be activated. The ECU won't come out of it until its sorted. .
20. (1) Fault code 00533: Check the air ducting between the MAF and the Throttle Body for air leaks. Also check the ISV is not stuck shut or not opening enough correctly to let the engine idle. (2) Fault Code 00515: The Camshaft Sensor is failing at higher RPM (classic fault since new for the VR6). Replace the camshaft sensor on the cylinder head on the left side. Its behind the Coil Pack. Then reset fault code. Until the fault code is removed, the engine wil run in Limp Home Mode and be down on power and max RPM limited. .
21. G60 is what you call "under engineered" on particularly the early ones if its one of those. Right from the start as new cars, they use to snap clean through all the wheel bolts on a wheel with no warning. Fit only OEM parts in the running gear drive chain as replacements. .
22. Either. And the file is already in VCDS so as Measuring Blocks screen are labelled. ;) :D How time flies! .

24. Engine & ABS ECU unless auto, then that as well. .
25. Only one listed for No.3, even back in mid 1990's. No1's length seem to have been lost on the electronic versions of the parts list when they were converted to ETKA. .
