Yeah I've got 25 heat shield clips but they dont look right and don't look like they will do a very good job so I've not changed them. And it certainly doesn't look very pretty at the moment. I drove it down Monday morning on dirty wet roads and got back too late Tuesday evening to do anything about cleaning it. Since then I've been in Bristol two days and the drive now has a covering of snow so there is no way I'm getting it out to clean it for ages yet. I think I cut it very close to being out much too late in the year. Another day or so later in getting round to this and I would have been driving on thickly salted/ gritted roads :gag: Clean rain in the summer isn't too much of a problem :|

But I'm coverting his engine bay and he wants a rear axle like mine. (Oh, and he would quite like it if I stopped having little accidents with heavy objects while on his side of the garage !!!  :pale: )

I bought a load of new clips etc etc but unfortunately not quite enough. There is also the usual added problem of 2 or 3 part numbers quoted for something and no way of knowing which is the right one. As I mentioned, I'm going to be taking a great interest in other peoples axles next summer looking at what type of clips they have...... Easier to explain and show you my huge collection of old and different clip types face to face one day but as an example... 111.jpg[/attachment:2lqqj92o] Both brake line clips, no part numbers on the clip... which type do you have? You could reuse the old one but will you be able to remove it without breaking it???

Hi, been away a few days Christmas partying in Bristol but I think Kip has answered most points. Phil, re your very specific questions.... How did they go about blasting?? Don't now, I handed it to them and left them to geton with it. How did they check?? Ditto !! Blast to a high standard for nylon coating.... Don't know... Bush tubes clear?... as Kip said which turned out to be a very very good idea!! Masking the sub axle faces would have been a good idea but Graham saved the day by buying a grinding wheel and managed to get the nylon paint off. Chris - there were quite a few conversations about what paint finish to go for and which way to fit the axle bolts... nut or bolt face 'outwards' etc. Lots of 'but who would notice that?' and answers 'Chris would'.

Good evening  Glad you approve. I thought long and hard about which route to go with this project and your expected views played a major part in many of the decisions made. I've a few more clips to get as things didn't go quite as smoothly as I would have liked. I'll be taking a very detailed interest in certain aspects of others rear axles over the summer (when it gets here that is.... snow forcast for this week :( )

Thanks, but with your 305 bph I fail to see how you feel inadequate. Each to their own and I think you are exceling in the power stakes.

I'm just waiting for the bill now :gag:

OK, enough of 8v's. Been busy with the Storm the last few days (or D&G, especially G, have been :D ) Here's the pictures to show what I mean

Errr. I took some pictures but then thought I would appear even more sad than usual if I started posting them up but seeing as you have asked  I really couldn't stand the thought of leaving the mud up in the rear arches for the sake of an hour or so with a hose as I was putting my Westwoods on anyway, but once the job was started I remembered how cold working with water is in December!!! stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfDSC00336.JPG[/attachment:135zpdjz]Corrado92.pdfDSC00336a.JPG[/attachment:135zpdjz]passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfDSC00344.JPG[/attachment:135zpdjz]climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSC00344a.JPG[/attachment:135zpdjz]2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00339.JPG[/attachment:135zpdjz]DSC00339a.JPG[/attachment:135zpdjz] Yes I know it looks like a tractor but it will be comfortable round S Yorks. I've told the neighbours which I've seen today that the other one will be sold soon. It's going to a very good home where the tired engine will get the lovng attention it now needs. But what made it even worse re having 5 now was that a friend stayed over night last night and he has a VR so there were 4 squeezed onto the drive (plus the 2 in the garage). John (who sold the car) works for Glass's so I'm sure this one will be all that it was advertised as being. http://www.glass.co.uk/News8/index.html

Here... viewtopic.php?f=12&t=86036 Got the train to Banbury this morning to collect it. :)

Hmmm. First a matching pair of Mystic Storms. Now matching Blackberry 8v's. I think I need to get this OCD seen to.
-
Watch this space. :) Lots of Corrado action coming up  bit miffed about the weather turning so icy though :gag:
-
Yeah localish, I'm not gonna start driving bits of my car all around the country for sorting.... I'm not that mental :cuckoo: yet. A company called Batchglow based in Dinnington, just north of Worksop. They have a website with different coatings and their location etc etc They have previously done my tank straps and I think most of Brunys coatings were done there.

It's actualy nylon coated. Supposedly a bit harder wearing than just paint/powdercoating. It's a bit more shiney with a satin finish than the original i.e. matt but I'm happy with that if it is harder wearing. And if I get everything coated the same it will at least all match.

Thought it about time I progressed with the rear axle refurb or another year will go by. (I've had it 3 years!!) Kip knocked out the old bushes a few weeks ago, I finished stripping down the fixings and rusty bolts then took it for blasting and painting last week. Collected it this week and Kip has just removed the bush sleeves. All ready to deliver to D&G next week then it's just a matter of getting the Storm down there too for a few days :)

Thanks. I've been following your gallery for quite some time and am very envious of your rear axle work. I still have the one I bought from Dinkus a few years back and this year (end of) I WILL do something about getting it blasted/painted and fitted. New battery trays can still be bought from the dealers I believe. See Cazzas thread for pics of the new one fitted to the valver he's just bought.

Ahh, my members gallery can get a bit confusing as I've two C's. The Blackberry 8v had the bump last year and at 170+k is looking a little tired underneath (though I've not scrubbed it clean to know just how tired it is...) :pale: My Mystic storm is the one I've been obsessing about with all manner of cleaning liquids and sizes of brush :cuckoo: and I'm pretty happy with the condition underneath for a 61k mileage. P.S. Was it your work mates that left a message on my Blackberrys screen at Watford Gap services last year asking if i wanted to sell? I emailed the address left in the message and pointed them in the direct of this forum 8) just wondered as you've mentioned that you work on the highways, midlands area and that your work mates look out for Corrados for you.

Yeah we were admiring your garage when we called round. I hope I didn't frighten you too much when you called by with Drewiees wheel on Sunday. Bad tank straps...... I think I might beat you with the state of my 8vs ones. Thinking I need to replace them before the petrol tank falls off!
-
We seem to be accumulating lots of Corrado bits and cleaning stuff galore and with the garage becoming a bit of a nightmare lots of bits started living in the house. After a bit of surfing we found B&Q had the best shelves to offer and they even had a 15% sale on last week :) . We didn't go to Stoner as we needed a break from all the driving around we have been doing and have plenty more coming up so, after I recovered from a great night out last night, we got stuck into giving the garage a make over. And very please we are with the results. Just got to sort out hanging all the bikes up now.
-
 err thanks. . LOL had to have the 'ocd' explained LOL. But yep, you could be right there.

I just couldn't wait..... and it wasn't raining for a little while this morning so I got stuck in crawling around under the car again. At least it was doing clean stuff today :) passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf1.jpg[/attachment:3r23fbks]climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf2.jpg[/attachment:3r23fbks]2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf3.jpg[/attachment:3r23fbks]4.jpg[/attachment:3r23fbks] 8)

Big shout to Bruny for doing the leg work in getting my spare tank straps sandblasted and coated. :salute: Looking forward to fitting some nice shiney bits soon. :)

I was back at work Tuesday but Kip had the day off in lieu of Good Friday.... and is half day Thursdays and with his car being in the paintshop he decided to get stuck into my engine bay :D :D :D I have helped a bit, logging off my works PC at dead on 5 and doing where I could get to but most of these before & after pics are down to Kip. :luvlove: :luvlove:  Oh and my new bonnet stay arrived today. I helped fit it by holding the bonnet up

At last, I've begun the underneath cleaning proper. Big BIG thanks to Bruny for the use of his lift. It made the job almost a joy. A few before and 'as at Saturday' stage pics.... I'll not say 'after' as once you start (and a lift is available.......) it's hard to know when to stop. Still got plenty to do.
-
Hmmm, well. I might have changed my mind for Stanford but could change it back again after..... Lift is free.... Wheeee  thanks. And Kip has just bought a new BIG tin of gunk. I may well take you up on that offer next weekend :notworthy: .. weather permitting.
