  1. You have joined the official nutters club (as opposed to semi nutter). Enjoy all the pleasure an 8 will bring :)
  2. Was that 'dealer service'? If so the state of the air filter doesn't surprise me at all. I had exactly the same experiance when switching from years of dealer 'service' due to owning a VR from 22 months old to going to a respected independant. They showed me the air filter after years of dealer service and it looked like the one you found. Nice car btw
  3. LOL he's just throw water over them to clean his wheels and they have gone rusty!!
  4. I thought the peg line was very wonky! Certaintly not as OCD as you would expect for a concours line up
  5. Eh!! err thanks. I think I am using basic google. I'll see if I can change something some time but at the mo I am well overdue to get out and clean the car!!! :)
  6. Go on then. Pics on here. We mean to write this up properly but for those desperate to know for a job currently in progress I hope you can work out what Kip means from them Tape round the bnottom of the plastic sleeve and screwdriver to protect the lovely new paint
  7. Nice one Andrew. True dedication to the cause. ---------- Post added at 09:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:25 AM ---------- Joby - I'm sure that wont be a problem. Just you? And for the sleep over Sunday night? Sleep overs are (I think) Dave & Karen D Richy P Lilfuzzer Eric and some maybe's we need to check on. Sunday Curry is all the above (thought nothing too spicey for Lil) + Neuon any other takers???
  8. Little bump for a mod to see this though I appreciate you might have all been out having a life yesterday evening.
  9. Hi, I've found that if I take a few mins to browse some other site when I come back here I've been timed / logged out. The timescale in doing so seems to be very short. Is this something that I can change on my own settings or is it the same for everyone? (timed out while typing a fairly long pm but thankfully took a copy/paste of it before hitting send!!!) Thanks J
  10. see pm .. sorry it took so long. flippin forum logged me out..
  11. Yep Kip has just fitted all 4 to my shiney crossmember.. :)
  12. As most of the above. They are fine, just remember it's a 16+ year old car so things will need replacing and it's better sooner than wait until it breaks or fails on MOT. And at the risk of upsetting some people on here who like to tweek things I would say look for a standard car thats not had bits bolted on and off over the years and look for one that has been maintained by knowledgeable people (not necessarily VW and theres nothing wrong with owner servicing / maintenance if it's the right owner.. hence I say knowledgeable). I'll set off on a 200 mile works trip without a second thought as to whether my 8v will get me there as will many other people.
  13. I wore through a few flat wheels grinding the rad support back well. The cross member wasn't too bad, just a bit along the seams. But Batchglow are the bees knees with the blasting they do. :) (I've realised old style smiles still work!!! Doh)
  14. Sorry, haven't seen them anywhere this year yet. But it's early so they might turn up yet. Still got coffee and biscuits booked though. :) Ahh, realised you can still do smilies the old fashion way. I had better relearn a few ;)
  15. Hi, All membership renewals are due the beginning of May. We usualy send a reminder when we send out the minutes of the AGM (as Eric says Sunday 3rd April @ Gaydon and hopefully you have had a calling notice giving more info). Hopefully the website will be up and running again soon though it is down for a bit more than a facelift. More information available at the AGM and in the minutes. With the website down renewals can be made either by cheque to the PO Box address which is PO Box 10346 Halesowen B63 3XU (Please please please enclose a note with your full name and membership number or address if you dont know the number) or by bank transfer to the clubs account. Details of that will no doubt be provided in the AGM minutes and reminder of renewals being due. Any other questions please feel free to post up here or drop me a pm (though I am away 22 - 29th Mch) J
  16. Few more pics. I've got the crossmember etc back. S'funny how a bit of black paint can make something look like a million $'s. I could do with Mr Kippax to get back from holiday now so he can fit it all (f'ing smilies... why is it up there??? I wanted it HERE !!!) Still waiting for the wheels. I collected them over a week ago then took them back as I wasn't happy. They were told I wanted the best best top job done and they replied 'all our work is the best'! It's a local company that Kip has always used so I was surprised at the quality they handed over. It will be interesting to see what they class a best / top job when they hand them over next time. Plus I will take time off to give me time to fully inspect every one before taking them.
  17. And TAG is a 16v and doesn't (didn't) have recaros... Anyway. Nice nugget. Enjoy and look after it
  18. Can I just say I'm another one that struggles with having to relearn how to do stuff. Plus I don't like to just ask ask ask without having a go but as in changing a thread title, it seems this is no longer possible. I spent a while on Tuesday trying all sorts of options then gave up. If you are IT / techie minded then you probably like a challange in working out what new features the site has and customising it to work as you want. If you just want to chill out after a long day then being confronted by loads of changes defeats the object of logging on and has just been winding me up. Hence it's easier to not even log on.
  19. Ooh, don't ask me technical questions. Kip took it all off, I just fetched the tools as and when required!! Though of course you are not planning on taking the 2 small bolts out before supporting the engine front in some way, are you!!!. In fact, seeing the poor condition of the 2 tiny bolts that are left supporting the front engine weight I was glad Kip put an axle stand under each end of the cross member where the bumper bolts had been removed to help the tiny bolts when we left it stood like that for a few days before the cross member itself came off. If it's the storm you are doing there is also the power steering cooler pipe to remove before the rad support can be removed. (EKTA actualy calls the parts 'engine support' and 'cross member' where we all seem to call them 'cross member' and 'rad support'... seems the bit the rad sits on is the cross member and the bit the bumper bolts go through is the engine support)
  20. Spring must be coming cause 1) I had an hour or so of day light to play withthe car after work 2) I heard the dulcet tones of a football being kicked about at the bottom of the road anyway..... my camera is fixed so here are a few updates. (How do I title a pic now???)
  21. Crossmember and valance all off. List of new bits made..... maybe, just maybe it will all come together in time. (I'd post pics but my camera is away being fixed and Kips is living with his Nuggets)
  22. Wish I was allowed to sleep in peace. I've just been pulled to pieces and the bits ripped off left abandoned on the floor next to me. But on a plus note I did hear them talking about making a list of new bits for me.
  23. Cheers. God knows how we (I) am going to get all this back together by end of April. Kip is away on holiday 1 week in March and I an away 1 week after he gets back.
