  1. This is the forth lambda sensor. First was an after market ebay job which had the heater element short to ground code your talking about. The car actually run better with this one fitted. The second was a geniune Bosch sensor. The car run like a pig and was giving the lambda sensor short to ground and no other code. I took it back off and noticed I had put a big dent in it, so I thought that must be the problem. I am now on the third new Bosch sensor, same code! I dont think its the sensor or the wiring maybe? I was starting to think maybe a slight leak in the downpipe? You cant really see anything because of all the heat shield covering. I'm really annoyed as I have had to give up now as its driving me mad! I usually do everything on my car and can't really afford to give it to someone else at the moment. At least its drivable and not drinking lots of fuel. My main concern is the MOT is due in Jan. Thanks for any advice you can give.
  2. Yes this is the only code it is throwing on vag com (00525 Oxygen sensor short to ground). I get lambda voltage readings on there though which are no higher than .500v, but it drops to .000v at idle. On part throttle though, it seems to give readings of around .350v to .500v.
  3. All the wiring was tested good. I then rigged up some other test signal wires and it was still the same.
  4. Doe's the not need to be in closed loop for it to start calibrating? The only code I get is lambda short to ground. The car seems to be running lean on throttle and perhaps rich and being compensated on idle? But it really has lost me now. I think I'm just going to have to pass it on to someone else to diagnose, at my expense! How do I check calibration? :?
  5. I'm pretty pleased with my Tar-ox fast road pads, under £100. I'm sure you can get more expensive compounds in the range. I dont get that much dust either, but I guess its hard to see with matt black wheels. :)
  6. Ive still got this problem and its driving me insane! Ive been chatting to Vince and he is pretty stumped too. I've now replaced the injectors with recons and its still exactly the same. The cars is not going into closed loop and Im still getting the lambda short to ground code. Heres a vagcom log file to show what the lambda readings are up to. Also Im still getting 34 mpg on motorway runs. :? Anyone got any ideas, cos Ive pretty much run out? The ecu has also been swapped. New testing signal wires from the ecu to lambda sensor.
  7. I know how you feel mate. I've just come in from bending my nearside middle screw bracket back for the headlight. Both headlights had been bent in breaking one of the top brackets. Luckily my lenses aren't smashed, but my grill is. Very p**sed off :mad2:
  8. I dont know, but if they are, they would be very expensive I should imagine!
  9. Do the single electrode ones seem to be better for a VR? Mine have always been the twin type?
  10. Ive got play in my arms as well. Ive replaced all off the linkages I can replace. The spindles aren't easy to replace as I found out when I ordered one, as it is riveted to the frame. So I still have it. The play is when you move one arm up and down on the screen it moves the other side. Probably about an inch of play. I'm thinking its got to be the motor it's self. I've swapped the motor and frame before, but only with a second hand unit which could be just as worn. :?
  11. Thats a good idea kev. Let us know how you get on mate, if you do that is. :)
  12. Yeah I've got them myself kev. There not any good for the ecu, they need to be tiny. I'm still having problems with the lambda signal. I'm on Bosch sensor number 3 now, lol! I'm now liaising with Vince at the moment. He has suggested cutting the signal wires and running some test cables as the ecu terminals are a pain to get out even with the tool he uses! Eventually if it cures the problem I would like to run a separate loom to the ecu for the signal wires and use proper terminals. I was looking at this set.
  13. Would this tool be any good for ecu terminals? They are very small!
  14. Did either of you check your spare racks? Im thinking of trying to tighten up the rack this weekend.
  15. Correction, I've just tested it again at the signal wire whilst running. From start it was 0.6, then after it had warmed right up, I tested it again and got 0.02v to 0.03v fluctuating. I also pulled the fuel reg hose and blocked it off and not much happened, maybe went up to 0.05v/0.06v. This would indicate the lambda is dead? I feel really stupid now as I just purchased a second hand ecu today for £45 quid. I'm just throwing money away left right and centre here! :mad2:
  16. I just tested the lambda signal wire whilst running and cleaned the ecu pins. I was getting 0.6v constant when first started. When it warmed up a bit I got a reading of 0.0v to 0.2v fluctuating. So I should get a signal on vagcom if all the wiring is ok, which tested all good when I checked last week. :? Im not getting any lambda readings what so ever. Would I see readings when cold on vagcom?
  17. Fitted the third new lambda on Saturday, which was a Bosch item. I didnt disconnect battery till last night and carried out the basic setting procedure. After at least an hour and a half after re-connecting the battery it runs like a bag of s**t! After my journey back from Egham to Brighton I plugged vag-com in. The old codes seemed to still be there so maybe I didnt leave the battery off for long enough? I went into measuring blocks and the lambda wasn't getting picked up at all! Cleared the codes and 00525 O2 sensor short to ground pops up again. Could this be because I didn't disconnect the battery for long enough? I think I need to test signal from the lambda plug whilst running and at the ecu end. This will surely tell me if the ecu is at fault? Im really thinking about burning the car out at the minute! Any advice would be great.
  18. Fantastic thread kev. Some classy bits of kit on your car.
  19. Tell me about it. Ive just found one on ebay a guy is selling which he says is new and un used for £40. I've gone for this option as I can't afford £70 at the mo. I just hope it turns up all good. Im driving it with the cheapo sensor back in at the mo, with no pre heating, so it runs like poo when cold!
  20. Feel like an idiot now. due to my heavy handedness I must of put a big dent in the side of the sensor that I found when I removed it today :( I was supposed to use the ramp at the Audi dealer where my dad works. But I had I really heavy night and didnt get up till late, and had to struggle on the drive with not much visibility. Thats £70 down the drain! I think Ill use the ramp next time when Ive saved enough money for the third new lambda! :mad2:
