  1. I believe that the Mocal plates don't entirely cut the oil supply off to the radiator, just restrict it. Otherwise you'd suddenly get half a litre of cold viscous oil in the engine when the stat opened, and any air in the system after fitting the mocal would also go straight in and cause seizure. I don't like the idea of completely removing the oil-water cooler, they help the engine warm up evenly and quickly enough, plus if your mocal is working well and the oil temps have been brought down then they might actually remove a little heat from the water.
  2. I bought a VR as a second car. Similar setup to CrazyDaves, the car was too cheap to turn down, and I couldn't bring myself to break it. I covered 6000 fairly trouble free miles in it last autum/winter and now I've got to rebuild the engine and do a few bits and peices to it, but I ought to be able to put a few less miles on the valver by the autumn. :)
  3. I don't like the general Valver abuse in this thread... i love mine to bits, and far prefer it to the VR. Admittedly it's not as quick as modern cars, but it goes round corners well, and makes me smile when I come to drive it. I get decent fuel economy, and there's very little to do to the engine. Just keep putting quality oil in, and do the filter regulary and she's as happy as a piglet in poo. Don't here any stories about crank bolt going or timing chain tensioners breaking up on Valvers do you?
  4. Yarp. Loads less wiring compared to traditional vehicle looms, especially relavant in agricultural and plant machinery where many different sensors, controllers and motors all over the vehicle.
  5. Cool! Will be great when you do get a chance to wind her up a bit! :) Great work mate. What did you buy then???
  6. Testicles... Sorry to hear this when you rang up mate :( No joy swapping the cables back and forth then?
  7. I looked removed my rear quarter cards from the vr, repaired the one the previous owner snapped ( :? ) with fibreglass and took them home ready to clean and condition. Moved my corrado parts store into the VR for a little while. Found some more missing scrws and clips and fitted them. Thought about towing it out of the hedge, then changed my mind. Washed the valver when it got cooler. Meant to do it Saturday but went to the beach instead. :D
  8. That's why I was suggestign a gentle bit of boost, nothing that will melt your pistons and poo on your pillow for good measure. pootle that around for a bit, then look to rebuild and upgrade etc
  9. Nice!! I'm sure this car got a mention on here recently... Carry on listing the mods, noone here is going to get bored! Oh, and Welcome :)
  10. I wonder what you could build a turboed 16v for? Exhaust mani, little turbot, bit of piping, water injection, megasquirt or second hand emerald or sommat, fuel rail, injectors. 6-8 psi, 200 odd hp? Nothing expensive or over complicated, just help get a bit more air in.
  11. Mine seemed quite good in my 1.8 to be honest, a lot of people slate them, but I did 35k and they came out looking fine. Have since started using the bosch super yttriums which seem alright. I'll look on ETKA shortly for you to see what that says. Just got to put my fajitas on....
  12. Cool I should have looked at them a bit harder tbh. pictures don't seem to show the colour properly for some reason. Think I'll get a bit of it and try, if I don't like it won't take much to respray them again.
  13. Have you lowered the car recently??? Sounds like your compensator is over compensating. Common if you have lowered the car without resetting the valve. There are guides on here on how to do it I think.

    Secret computer!

Yarp. I'm sure it ought to work on everything... You can use vagcom to read the revs too. Might be easier??? If you're ever down this way drop in and use mine...
  15. Yeah, was good to meet up, no worries on the wheels, I've been trying to find someone to shotblast my current ones, what paint did you use on yours btw? I'll try to actually turn up to one of the SW meets one day, I assume you'll still attend?
  16. Looks alright mate, colour is pretty cool too. Don't quite understand the anti-other-marque-other-than-VAG on this forum sometimes. It's not like the corrado is known for it's amazing reliability, is it??? I'm sure No.8 is out there waiting for you though :)
  17. On Monday I got all enthusiastic and started doing things to the VR. Fitted new 6x4s, which was an utter ball ache. Fitted the new trimsport rear brace, and made up a spacer plate to assist the fitment. Fitted a shineyer rear badge Fitted a less crap front grill. Opened the bonnet Looked Closed the bonnet Took the rear seats out Today I started looking for companies to shotblast my various components and to stitch new bits into my drivers seat, Tonight I drove to a mates house and was driven mental by screeching from the rear brake on the valver, so stripped it right down in the road outside her house, and the noise went away. Cleaned and conditioned the two rear seat uprights. :)
  18. Well, the car can take longer to get up to temperature, and the engine was designed to run with the stat opening at 87 degrees or whatever it opens at. For general fast road use, just ensuring that your cooling system is in full workign order should be sufficient.
  19. Cool, I've been using the foam applicator pads, I think I just got a bit keen with it. Gonna take the cloobber to my other house and try to do a panel at a time in the evenings. should be able to get a couple of coats of polish and a coat of wax on easily enough then. Been looking at the scratches and I definitely will want it machine polishing somewhen, just need to stop spending money for a month or two. ;)
  20. It's on the passenger side in front of the rear axle. you can cable tie it open while you bleed the rear brakes.
  21. I've been attacking my car with cleaning products today, it's been clayed all over, washed several times and had megs stage 1 paint cleaner over it twice. I then used the stage 2 polish, went right round the car, and started to buff it off, but it would barely move, it was so stubborn I ended up using quick detailer to help soften it to remove the layer. Any ideas on why this happened? Did I just put too much on, or was it the fact that the car was in the open in very hazy but direct sunlight, or am I simply a tard? It's all off now, but I feel like i need a good sleep :(
