The thermotime switch is ont he end of the head, if that was broken/unplugged, then it could be running rich.

    Engine problems

Thermotime switch on the end of the head? Reverse light? Gearbox speed sensor?
  3. My VR had full VWSH. but was abandoned in a car park with no oil, water, flat battery, sunroof half open and bonnet cable snapped. Needless to say the history didn't count in my opinion
  4. I was speaking to Vince about this on Sunday, he rebuilds them.
  5. Can you put a picture up?
  6. Meant to comment on this when it was relavant, but I totally agree with Walesy, nowadays, people have a habit of trawling the internet for evidence to back legal cases up, for example there's the thread on Pistonheads where the fella went to prison, and the police used his internet posts as evidence in court. Besides If I owned Dubious Daves Dodgy MOT Centre and Mirkin Showroom, I'd be none too pleased if VOSA turned up wanting to audit/inspect my premises because some scrote who I let through with a touch and go MOT told all his internet freinds about it. EDIT, Walesy actually made all these points later
  7. Are you sure you want to say that to Toad? Good point.... I'll get the lube and special trousers on just in case. :pharoh: :new-bday: :fondle:
  8. Probably wants one of thise things that I can't remember the name of in the main power line. do you know how he connected it?
  9. I was very impressed with it earlier, and will be buying one, especially after my plier throwing session last weekend
  10. The carpet is cut down the middle, there's wiring and the hanbbrake mech, the back of the gear lever surround will be a large hole etc. I did roll in this style for a bit because I was lazy.
  11. The inlet air temp sensor is the plug going into the inlet manifold by the fpr and the wires should be taped into the loom with the yellow and blue temp sensors. then the other temp sensor is located next to the yellow and blue sensors in the thermostat housing, and the wiring should connect to the loom that runs to the starter motor. It's easy to get them all mixed up.. The temp sensors can also get mixed up. the black connection always goes to the black sensor, but the others can change colour I think.
  12. Good work dude! You driving it to work? If So I'd fit the 2 front bumper mounts to help hold the front cross member together.
  13. I like some of those ideas... Glad to see the dead squirrel idea made it, and Steps musical career is just genius... Have you covered dynamic recrystallisation in your materials lectures yet? I did a project on it with Nimonic 901 I think, lots of heating, squashing, polishing, etching, metallurgy etc.
  14. O/T The expansion tank cap could do with swapping for a blue one.
  15. The inlet temp sensor and engine speed sensor aren't plugged in the wrong way round are they?
  16. I'd happily put a standard VR up against that...
  17. Bummer... That's really unfortunate. I've made assumptions like that fuse was missing in the past and have always been lucky.
  18. Have you change the plugs at all? Where did you get the leads from. Doesn't sound too good if they're still arcing accross. Try spraying a bit of wd40 onto and into the plug leads.
  19. Don't worry about it dude, I don't remember you doing or saying anything to stop people helping you. As far as not getting helped if you're not known, agian, I don't think that's a huge factor, you've obviously been here a while looking at your post count (>2500) so people will be aware of you. Admitedly there are some obvious groups, with some very technically knowledgeable people who know each other communicating regularly in threads (I wouldn't dream of including myself in this group, I'm here to learn as much as possible) , but they all seem willing to help others. With regard to general posts on here, I can't speak for other people but I only get a limited period for looking on the forum during the day, and only really pay attention to threads I've been reading before, are by people I know well, or have a title that draws my interest, everything else gets left till the evening when I have more time to pootle through. Previously I had looked at this post, but other people had answered, especially Corrado vr6 nos, who's opinion I respect greatly, and I didn't think I had anything to add to the post then. Don't worry dude, and get that 6 branch fitted... I want to find out if there is any appreciable difference from fitting one, so I know what to expect from mine... :D I'd have thought the opposite, surely you want regular exhaust pulses to keep the turbot spinning evenly??
  20. I've been thinking a lot about the 263 cams and the gains people are getting and percieving and thought it would be interesting to get a list of actual mods people have done to cars and the actual results. For now I'd be keen on recording info for all the cars, but depending on the popularity could split into the 5 engine types. As far as information is concerned I'd like the following. Car details; Engine type Mileage Year Dizzy/coilpack (vr only) Existing modifications Modification Name Manufacturer Cost Whether it was mapped to take advantage Power/Performance Peak Hp & Torque @ Revs before fitting Peak Hp & Torque @ Revs after fitting Peak Hp & Torque @ Revs after mapping Perception: (i.e.) how you felt it changed the car RR graphs to back claims up. Obviously it is ideal if you have figures for performance. And I'd like to see actual figures, not just manufacturers claims.
  21. I kno I mentioned it on Dub unit... but I foooking love that bra...
  22. You mean me... Who text you to tell you about this????
  23. Is it square??? if so, it is... Whip it off and clean it up, spray plenty of wd over it, it might be cracked or arcing. Clean the terminals up, and take the plastic cover off the top, there's a couple of terminals under it, that can corrode.
