  1. ROFL!!! I won't rush the VR, mostly as I can't afford bits! Lol. Going to start on parts that don't matter, like sorting the interior and body, rather than engine and MOT type items, otherwise I'll get it running and leave it looking like a shed... Going to start the brakes in the very near future, got 288s ready to rebuild, and I'll do the rear calipers at the same time. The fronts will come off and get sold to a certain DBP valver driver ;). Luckily the yard is flat, so it won't escape without any brakes on the car... then I'll start to look at the rear axle, bodywork, etc. got some newer injectors, a working abs ECU and some magnecors in my stores now...
  2. Yeah, the rising cost of oil has rooted the fertiliser market. Not very easy to get your hands on now either. Hmm, would plasticote do the job then? Just want to see what colour coded calipers would be like? Not that I'll ever wash them... lol
  3. Looks good dude... Keen on seeing her at BVF.
  4. Do you reckon it would be good on brake calipers? Although it doesn't seem to come in white, like I want...
  5. The late type bolts don't take a lot of purging, just put it in a tin of oil with the hole as high as possible and pump it a bit. The early ones need some fiddling. Look on VWVortex for a guide.
  6. Why not visit Toad's rado and drive through enema centre?
  7. The hedge is the best place for sleepy VWs... ;) If I was goign to strip it it would have been when I first bought it. I think I've killed enough Corrados now ;) I fell for the VR noise when I tried it up and down the lane, and will make it into a good runaround again, besides I've spent too much on bits and talked to much sh!te about rebuilding it to not do it now...
  8. Mine normally line the passenger footwell until I take them out the car, and they line my bedroom floor. Put it this way, my VR has full VWSH until 2005/2006. The car is fooked in every concievable way. the reciepts have no bearing on the car in it's current state, and clearly will ave less bearing on the car in the future. I also feel sad when I add the totals up. Must be pushing £6k of parts now...
  9. Just tickled over 191000, both cars are either being driven as dailys or are sat waiting for money to be spent on them.

    Wrecked R32

An old workmate had the most unfortunate sister in law ever... She'd been driving her brand new nissan micra around for a week when she was the first person to arrive at an accident, some goon had stuffed his car badly and was crawling around in a dazed state, she let him sit in the passenger seat while the ambulance etc turned up. in this time, he had a spasm in his back and couldn't get out of her car. The emergency services assumed it was some spinal damage and chopped her roof off to remove him!!! turned out it was just a bit of a spasm and nothing serious in the end. :gag:

    Rear Bearings

If you have started the sockets with allen keys, and don't have access to irwins, use a hammer and punch on the head of the bolt, both on the side of the head and on the end. you'll help break the seal, as Bill says, and you'll slightly bur the end of the hex over so it'll grip the allen key better, you might have to drive the allen key into the socket, but that'll only help to free it off. also, buy some allen key sockets, much easier yo use a 1/2 ratchet or breaker bar on a socket that putting pipe over an allen key.
  12. I'm just about to raid a mk3 vr for it's obd2 goodness and wanted to check what I needed to remove.I assume all the parts in the first post, the wiring loom needs to be disconnected from the fusebox and ecu to remove I assume? is the lambda different or will my existing one work? Any other hints/tips on remving it? Cheers! tom

    Paint Codes

Was that off an H plate near cardiff on Ebay? That's blue pearl effect, same as mine and the Yandards. Fooking lovely, there didn't look to be too much wrong with the car tbh.
  14. There isn't one under that end though Dr. The one that runs to the heater matrix fixes to the head near the aux water pump, and has a t off to the throttlebody. It's not too cheap. £35 or so I think. The pipes you pointed at get oil vapour build up in them, and occasionally a bit of moisture if the car hasn't been run much recently. I'd check that they havent perished and started dripping oil out.

    Speedo dropping

It's been bitten by a vampire and doesn't like the light?? I'd check your earths around the clocks and fusebox. Have a weasel around the speedo sensor on the back of the gearbox as rado-steve says.
  16. Well, I looked at the vacuum pipe going into it, and didn't put 2 and 2 together in a correct fashion. Lol. Could a different unit work better on a 2l conversion though?
  17. That's a breather for the rocker cover. No coolant around those pipes. Nearest coolant will be the two pipes going into the top of the throttle body.
  18. There's a guy who used to be Autotechnic before they went bad, called Alan or something. He knows VRs well, might be worth pming mattosmond as I think he's used him. Otherwise, if you want smaller jobs doing... let me know, I'm always up for earning a few quid on the side...
  19. The throttle bodies also get sticky and unpleasant inside. Might be worth taking it off and cleaning it...
  20. You could use a vaccum operated WUR from another car such as the mercedes and porsche of a similar vintage to the corrado, apparently these need stripping and reshimming to get the correct fuel control pressure, but do allow vaccum controlled enrichment of the fueling. This should be more efficient than a standard WUR that's been modified as it won't be running rich throughout the majority of the rev range. I don't know a great deal about this, so don't quote me, but I read an article about it the other day, and intend to investigate further. The awkward part seems to be reshimming them to achieve the correct control pressure.
  21. Really pleased we got it all done and fired up. The rain was starting to worry me a bit this afternoon. Let me know when you get him out for his first run!
  22. I agree. I don't like cars that have been sent off to be fettled with, collected and driven to a show. Much nicer when the owner's been up to thier balls in oil and paint building the car up. Hang on... could this be a topic you and Kev agree on per chance? :D I've seen some foooking horrific "show" cars that look like they've come out of a serious taste vacuum.
  23. I'd buy one and experiment. I would be surprised if there was absolutely no difference., just put your hand in front of the slat when the fan is running, you can feel the air moving.
