  1. Spose I ught to wack a moderate update in. The VR died after a hard (for it) winter, something has broken up in the timing chain cover and I've not got the money to do anything with it, so, it's playing a waiting game, parked up in my parent's yard, looking sad under a hedge. I've slowly started to collect bits, and ideas for it, and hopefully, by the end of the summer, I'll have amassed enough money to begin the rebuild. Without going into too much depth, I hope to have essentially an as new VR6, which shouldn't need any new parts etc for a couple of years. In the mean time, I had to rather quickly get the 16v out, refit all the bits I'd been fiddling with, including the beiged throttle body and the repainted rad cowling and get her ready for the MOT, new rear topmounts were needed, along with new rear disks, bearings, rear caliper, and ARB droplinks. I took the opportunitly to fit the rear goodridges that I had knocking around (almost setting fire to myself in the process). She passed the MOT and has behaved very well since, with front topmounts and a rad fan motor on the shopping list. Already collected and hopefully being fitted prior to the stealth RR day, is a 4 branch manifold (cheers DanVW) and a rear strut brace is jus about in the post :) (cheers to everyone involved in the group buy thread, Bill, Karl, and Adz.) Sadly due to finiancial constraints and a strange feeling at lent, I've promised myself not to actually buy any car parts for 40 days. this has gone reasonably well, surprisingly. Finally washed the 16v this weekend, once yesterday, and again today. The first time since the summer  here's some pics...

    Door won't shut!

I washed my car yesterday, then left it till about 11 and the doors were frozen shut then. This made me quite sad.
  3. I thought that was a 16v with a Beetle breather?

    oil leak help!!

It is the oil cooler from the description, it's got an o-ring either side, but I'm not going to tell him that now, the mardy git. Honestly though, mate, don't get in such a sh1t with us, just bump the thread or use the search.
  5. My old valver seems better for things being seized than the late vr. Dunno if quality changed at some point? Looks like a lot of people are doing the rear axle at the moment. I need to do mine really. How's the valver going then Dave??

    Track Days

Do you remember the last forum related trip to the ring? 3 of 4 cars ended up bent, one had to stay in Germany, one came back with no bumper or drivers side headlight, and the other was set about with sledge hammers in the campsite to get it drivehomeable. Still. I would like to try my car round there, but ultimately think that UK based trackdays will be more satisfying.
  7. Speak to Dom, he's got a set of Audi wheels that will be up for sale soon I believe. Very tempted myself.
  8. Those plugs look sexy.... Quite surprised they don't just connect up correctly given thier origin.
  9. I'm pretty sure I've had my VR spinning both front wheels in the wet, with shoddy camber and plop tyres. Anyway. Get on and sort the alignment out, it'll make a world of difference. How're you getting on with her anyway mate? Pleased so far?
  10. Hello mate. Been a while! How're things? Had a similar experience with VR6 brakes last weekend! Had a young lady come round looking tfor a place to live the other day, got chatting and she runs a Jetta GTi, her mate did a load of work to get it through the MOT, and "had" to lower it on a ridiculous setup, I've not seen it in the light yet, but I think she'll have issues with the driveway.
  11. They should just unbolt off the crumble and go straight onto Gooney, then the pipe will fit nice and securely. :) The pipe legnths from the cat on a 2l or the downpipe from a 1.8 seem exactly the same.
  12. No. Soemthing will happen and I'll end up with a blue one or something stupid. Lol. I did consider spraying the VR moonlight blue.
  13. Lol. I'd better not. Everytime someone offers me a lift or a go with a car I end up buying one shortly after!
  14. Cool Nice work Mic. Currently planning and replanning these jobs on mine. Gonna give the AVS stuff a go I think. Possibly, or maybe the original wishbones with new R32 rear bushes and AVS front bushes. Hmmmm. Can't make my mind up. Bet she'll be awesome to drive after this. I've heard that the rubber bushing on the power steering rack is well worth doing too...
  15. Standard gasket is one big bit, I assume it'll be fine.
  16. Hmmm That's not the VW part no, I think it's the bosch one. The VW part no. is 021 906 031A it should be on the injectors somewhere.
  17. Have I mentioned that I love your bingo wings recently??

    Headliner Cleaning

It's not too bad a job to do to be honest, as long as you leave a day or so aside for fiddling around.
  19. It's the rear of the 2 joints where the wishbone bolts to the rear subframe, a 19(?)mm bolt goes straight up through it, there's 2 smaller (17??s) holding the subframe to the car just behind it. if you jack the car up you should be able to see it with the wheel still in place.
  20. You could change the rear gearbox mount for a deisel golf unit, mine was shot on the vr, and replacing it made a huuuuge difference to handling. Does it have any gunk around it? Is the rear wishbone bolt nice and tight too??
  21. :( I thought this was going to be a thread about your Mousse T album getting stuck on repeat...

    Loud noise!

Ah right. I misread. Start with the belt, and fluid level.

    Loud noise!

You shouldn't really hold the steering at the end of the lock, the pump is being worked bloody hard, let the wheel back a degree or two to take the load off...
