  1. is there any arcing from the coilpack? Open the bonnet when it's starting to get dark and inspect the connections. Try spraying wd40 over the whole thing and wiping it clean before addin a bit more wd for luck, see if that approves. I hit a big puddle the other day and the water sat on the engine cover dripping onto one of the terminals causing a massive misfire.
  2. It all comes in a kit with the spare nuts and bolts etc.
  3. Indeed she is... Must find a picture. Forgot to mention that the rear passenger door didn't work properly after I had an issue with a hangover and a fencepost in midwales...

  5. As an aside, you seen the picture of me being spanked on facebook?? Still don't remember that happening... xx
  6. Lol... I look like I'm really giving steve some beans. My reputation as a womaniser is being shattered on here at the moment. There would have been some secondary mod-love, but I couldn't catch Jim. Lol. Cheers dude. I wish I could come on more often to spread the turd awareness....
  7. £100/month isn't a cheap car by a long shot.
  8. Where abouts is the fella??? If he's local I can do the turd>letterbox honours for you... I'd be fuming... Good luck getting it sorted.
  9. After being made to feel sad by the online prices for alternators I've found, I was wondering if I could purchase bearings for a VR6 alternator somewhere? I can't afford for the car to go off the road at the moment, or I'd send the alt off to be rebuilt, I thought that If I could get hold of the bearings from somewhere then I could wack them in quickly one evening. Any thoughts anyone? Cheers.
  10. Kev, whereabouts can you get new injectors from in the States? I'm considering getting a set for my VR when I rebuild the engine... I'm pretty sure they must be getting tired now... Funkster, good link. I might look at sending them there if I can't get a set of new ones for a reasonable price....
  11. Second hand manifolds are about £25-£30 atm, just sold my last one too...

    Front splitter

There are 5 or 6 10mm bolts along the front, and 2 screws/bolts on either side. It's a bit fiddly to do though... Can't remember where to get them from though. You're bloody lucky that you only broke that on the badger!
  13. Looks good dude.... Shame about the speed bump. Maybe train your Mrs to run in front of you with a couple of wooden blocks in the future?
  14. I think thats poor work gg7aph. I'd be livid if that happened to me. Fair enough madscientist's mate might be a bit of a donut, and should have known the price, but I think you took advantage of that fact....
  15. New handbrake cables make a huge difference, worth doing as a pair though to get the adjustment right more easily. Your old cables might be siezed into the metal tubes that come through the floor and push into the handbrake mech, if they are, you'll need to remove the bit of pipe (PITA :() and extract the cable. I did this using a blowtorch to melt the plastic a bit and a dril to clean the hole up after....
  16. Afternoon... Bit of a revival on this one... I had a spare shift weight knocking around so I tried fitting it to my early valver with the square PAS tank, but the weight interferes on the return pipe running into it, I could spend a little while tomorrow fitting a late style tank and extending my pipes to reach it, but... Is it really worth my effort in doing this?? Will my gear change be magically better because I've fitted the weight?? Cheers Tom
  17. It's just drag in the box causing this, perfectly normal, nothing to worry about. The input shaft will be turning in the box with the car in nuetral, nowt to do with the clutch.
  18. I'd look at the wiring first... Sounds more likely especially on intermittant faults.
  19. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water just yet.... You've got a 60k mile bottom end, which is a great base and shouldn't have suffered much damage (posibly need a piston or two), get the valves replaced or buy a second hand head and get it fully rebuilt and wack it on probably cost around £500 for the head/refurb. You'd have new chains and tensioners etc and would never have to worry about the engine internals again... compare that to buying a fairly unknown second hand engine which could potentially need all the same work doing in the future...... See what turns out with the mechanic.
  20. It's quite different to the 020 linkages I'm afraid... Tekara has recently done his bushes I believe, it appearas that you need to take the shift mech out of the car from below which involves removing the exhaust to do the gear lever bushings, then there are a couple of parts on the shift tower which the cables connect to that can be changed. You might also need to change the bushes in the bottom of the gearbox that the selector tower fits into. I'd make sure that the play is definitely in the linkage though... Get a mate to move the lever around whilst you look at the shift tower under the bonnet. This play could come from the selectors in the gearbox themselves, especially if you rest your hand on the lever when you drive. HTH. Tom

    ABS Light

Hmmmm. You should be able to read it fine then... Try cleaning the contacts on the two plugs going into the pump and those on the abs ecu, see if that helps.

    ABS Light

This error is quite common for people using cheap ebay usb vag com cables it seems. Would be worth finding someone who can definitely read abs errors. I see this error every time I try to look at my abs with my cable, yet I've borrowed one that works fine with it. (My abs is still cooked though :( )

    High idle

Mine hisses badly, but my idle doesn't play up and I've not found holes in it yet. I would not be surprised if it was cracked in your case though.
