The valve stem seals shouldn't affect the compression test very much as the valves are closed when the engine comes up to compression. Chances are, it is the stem seals still.

How do I turn my 2.0 16v into a bad mutha f**ka?

Flusted's 16v Tuning guide -
It could be a knackered cam chain. does it sound like it's coming from the distributor end of the head? How many miles has the engine done?
-
Yeah. Spose so...

I spoke to a couple of other people and they've all said about £40-£50. tbh I can't be arsed to roll around in the mud for £25. But then again, It's £25 that i don't have now.... hmm.

Hi, This is a bit cheeky, but does anyone know what a second hand exhaust manifold for a 1.8 16v is worth. someone has rung me wanting to buy one i have on my spare car and I don't know what to ask for it.. The position of the car means that removing it is going to be a bigger pain in the arse than usual, which doesn't help. Cheers everybody.

WWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.... The Wiki article isn't technically correct. You can remove the cowling and drill a strategic hole in the alloy ignition barrel casing, stick a thin sticky thing in, depressing the locking spring of the ignition barrel and it will slide out. I've doen this twice. Look in your haynes manual, and if it isn't clear, when you put your new barrel up against the casing you'll see exactley where to drill it. hope that helps.

haha. yeah, I stopped trying to pull it fairly quickly

I've tried pulling the handbrake on tighter to 'break the ice' before. and that's not worked. Although I realise I'm not going to move the cable that much at the caliper end, I'm sure i'm putting more force on it than a spring on the caliper.
-
My cables freeze up regularly in this weather. and I'm certain it's the cables rather than the calipers. My rubber boots on the ends of the cables are knackered and there is a mulittude of crap inside the cables. It would well be worth making sure your cables are free, and squirting some of the lube into them. it doesn't take long with the help of a mate. I still wouldn't rely on this curing the problem forever though. When it's cold, wack it in gear.... Better safe than sorry. There was no resistance on the handbrake when you released it? I leave the beast running for a while, 10-15 minutes or so and it unfreezes... the trouble with driving before they unfreeze is that you have cold air flowing under the car and not melting the cables. I've also heard that the bleed screw (and I suppose the brake pipe) siezes in the mk4 caliper, so before fitting them put some copper grease on the threads just in case.

I've seen them snap on a nearly new mitsubishi l200.

Yup, better the devil you know... You can have your's cleaned, checked, new seals, valves ground in etc for £200 odd (including head set)
-
have you got the anti screech springs in place?
-
Sorry to be back tracking in your thread, but is there any difference in the G60 and the Vr6 calipers? I assume they are the same units but the pipework is slightly different, hence the different kits. I have a 16v which I am putting 280mm brakes onto, but they came from a VR6, and I thought I'd ask about the pipework now whilst people are still thinking about it. I was intending to buy braided brakelines for a G60.

Hahaha. I like that story.

Cheers for the offer Nick, but we picked her one up a while back (There was abit of super thread ressurection going on here...) See you on the 10th?
-
Yeah...

ROFL She's an ex-cirencester student, so pimms facilities in the car are a neccessity.

Either pull a plug (1 or 4) out andstick a screwdriver in the hole and wait till it stops going up or use the timing marks on the camshaft. The two dots need to be either side of the rockerbox gasket iirc.

I've been thinking about 16v radiator positioning over the last day or two, and I suppose it is relavant to your mahooooooooosive i/c. I reckon you could fit a pair a 9" slimline fans to the 16v radiator just about. which would a. free up more space behind the radiator, and b. improve cooling. If you couldn't fit a pair of 9"s maybe wack a 12" in? Or have one 9" behind on one side and another in front on the other side? Maybe I smoked too much crack last night... Anyway I wonder if you could move your rad back into the engine bay an inch or two to allow more space to fit the intercooler?

Hope you find the weasel! Was anything else taken, or just the bumpers?
-
Oh, he's not that bad. ;) lol xbones If you do sell it, could you drop me a PM please? I might well have it off you. I'll measure the distance between my struts first though.

You can paint the bulbs iirc...

Horrible rattling, any clues? VR6, PROBLEM FOUND, NOT

That's a bit of a bugger. Parts gateway are quite handy for stuff like that.
