map was done at stealth, prior to that it was a Dubsport Map both did exactly the same so am guessing its not that as Vince really does seem to know what he is doing, I also have an idle adjustment screw and it doesnt seem to matter how High I adjust the idle using this (it just stops the throttle hitting the stop) it makes no difference to it happening, when I get the laptop adaptor I will take a look at teh MAP with the aid of Vince and see if we can set a few things, am going to look at eth crank sensor also, was going to put in a spare 16v fuel pump but Vince isnt sure whther this will fit teh g60 fuel tank, and recommends a VR6 one instead, anyone know ?

Well I am still having the same problem with this car, I have now have now done the following to the car. remap and rewired coils by stealth new temp sensor blue new map sensor new plugs new iginition switch new fuel pump relay new fuel filter and I have also checked the wiring to the DTA everything ok. The car runs fine most of teh time however sometimes it just wont start at all , and i mean will turn over but not fire even after 2 or 3 mins of cranking or it will stall at junctions and just not catch idle, i.e you depress clutch an engine dies, only way to catch it is to let clutch up and not let the car come to a stop. I have spoken to Vince on numerous occasions and am probably going to take the car back to him when I can but its a long way away. have also bought a laptop which I will plug in and check when the convertor from usb to rs232 arrives. we have started to wonder whether it could be the crank sensor, is this seasy to clean get at? The thing is the car runs faultlessly as long as your driving it but an dorddling or starting the car can cause an emense amount of trouble, I am probably going to replace the fuel pump next with a VR6 item. I know I have asked before but any help would be very grateful as at the rate I am going I will have replaced everything on the car.

does anyone know if the ignition switch on a golf mk2 is the same as corrado
-
That was me and no it wasnt messed with before I bought it, I was running stupid pulley sizes though, the are not indestructable, take a look at the vortex forum there are a few people on there that have had them seize the proble is the tolerances on them are so fine. They are very good chargers however but dont like being overdriven much like any charger, or turbo

I used to run cooling mist on my g60 and found it a very good kit however it doesn't look as well made as the aquamist kit and the pump is much larger so cant be as easily installed, I think the coolingmist pumps look much stronger than the aquamist kits.

especially stupid though after having been in casualty 2 days previously for jumping over a bonfire as a dare at a party and landing on a piece of wood with a 6inch nail in it  think thats why they thought I was mad. thought the methanol would just burn like when you gets mths on your hand as a kid however when its soaked into you jeans it another thing entirely, had to jump and roll while someone put my leg out with a towel, no lasting damage though. but yeah it bloody hurt

I bought 25 litres from here http://www.aaoil.co.uk/ piece of advice if you spill some on your clothes dont light it like I did (dont ask) otherwise you will end up in casualty like me explaining to the nurse that you are not a selfharmer but are in fact really STUPID :D

SLK32 AMG supercharger INSTALLED PICS!!!!!!!! last page!!!!!
samg60 replied to potatonet's topic in Engine Bay
just interested to know how your finding the Lysholm, what kind of boost are you seeing, i loved my autorotor for the small amount of time I had it running and always wondered what a larger capacity one would be like, is it ok a low revs with the capcity being so large, doent it use quite a bit of HP to drive it ? -
cheers lads, assumed is it was a aftermarket as it was lisetd in the spec list and also people are always goijng on about it beinga weak point of 20v engines, cool as long as I know its a genuine VAg I will order a replacement when I do the Cam belt in 6 months

just been reading the latest copy of the golf + and there is a seat ibiza with a 20vt it has had a metal wheel in replacement of the plastic original item on the water pump, anyone know where I can purchase these.

New Map sensor purchased and replaced all seems well, not counting my chickens just yet but hopefully this the end of this problem
-
woah hang on your going to turbo a carboretted 8v engine now thats a completley diffrent kettle of fish, I doubt this block will handle much psi at all
-
I used to manage 18+ with a lysholm charger flowing through a rallye intercooler and a jabbsport big valve head, bottom end never missed a beat and it was completeley standard, shame about teh two chargers I killed. Im sure there is a scirocco in the states with 22psi on standard internals, but to be honest if your seeing that type of boost you want to be thinking about better flow and bigger valves

Ok after the car has been down to vince and a good look over and a new map, coil packs rewired and it running fine for 3 weeks (I mean no problems whatsoever) it has begun having problems again, not starting then stalling at junctions when warm and then just failing to start completley and then when running like its completley bogged down as though its running on three or even two. after towing it home and the windreen wipers on for 30 mins it killed the battery and I swapped them around for an identical bosch item, the car starts fine, I havent driven it but it starts on the button. I definatley know its not the batteries as these are both identical batteries and it had the same problem with both, I tried a bigger 65amp battery an dit also had these problems. I have phoned Vince and he suspects a possible intermittant Map sensor problem, which I am leaning to however I dont understand why this would be so intermittant and also clear itself when the battery was changed, I know it could be because the car has been sat and if starting from cold the map sensor problem might not be an issue, however I tried starting teh car where I had broken down after being sat an hour and it wouldnt budge. I will buy another sensor however it would be good to be 100% sure about this having just spend £800 to get the car sorted in the first place, I also suspected the coil packs however most people I have spoken to seem to suggest that these either work or dont work (agu type coil packs) eithetr that ort there is some sort of earthing problem, however I dont see why that would have resurfaced after 3 weeks of no problems. Anyhow if anyone has any ideas please let me know. unfortuinatley I am without a laptop at the moment so cannot take the car for a spin to see if anything funny is happening on the DTA diagnostics. I just cannot belive how unlucky I seem to be with VWs

I feel very sad after reading this post, and cannot believe someone would floor a car 10 seconds from starting

I am after a good quality badgeless grill with spoiler I have seen many on ebay and just want to know what people have had experience with, i.e badly fitting etc. Thanks

sorted, just came off the phone with Stealth and my car is fixed, turns out the coil packs were wired incorrectly and the map was worng to accomodate this (coil packs had been wired as VW intended rather than the way DTA expects, all the coils were being charged at the same time arther than in pairs, and a ford realy had been used inbetween to wire them which I suspect was getting hot and failing to deliver the required voltage, hence it being fine from cold, but failing as it warmed up) + the engine mount was shot. car apparently made 300bhp and 300ftlb as opposed to the first run of 270bhp and 254ftlb) fantastic, now just need to go and pick it up

I Wish I was mate, but definatley spomething not right just not sure what it is, increased the ilde to about 1200rpm this morning (there is a screw on the throttlebody which prevent the throttle hitting the stop, this can be adjusted) and still it stalled and bounced on idle, doesnt seem to make a difference where the revs are when idling.) and as soon as I hit the lights it just wont go. the car has been much worse since i but the old 52 amp battery back in, I borrowed a 62 amp for a few days. but both the battreies are new Bosch silver. I guess I will just have to take the car to vince

sorry to keep bringing this back but am a little stumped, I have tested the alterantor and the battery when the car is running and they are very healthy, however when the car is at idle and you turn the lights on (got my wife to do this whilst I had the boot open to hear the pump) and you can here the pump slow as the load increases, it isnt a slight dip and then back to normal it actively slows (well the noise does anyway). When driving in the night it will stall at idle even though I have increased the idle to just over a 1000rpm , where as in the day the car performs almost flawlessley (does stall occasionally.) If this really is the engine managament then I am happy to take the car for a remap and get the idle parameters adjusted however it just seems strange. As stated before I have checked the alternator with lights on load and it sees a healthy 13.76 V (also used a bosch alternator and Battery tester and it says they are fine) Any Help greatly appreciated. Sam

I have a feeling that all my problems are related to a dodgy earth somewhere, started my car last night and it started and idled fine, as soon as I switched the lights on it stalled and you could here the fuel pump slow. Its very noticable that when I have the car at idle any large power consumption i.e. electric windows, lights etc will cause the car to start hunting for idle. haven't had a chance to check whether the alternator is supplying enough charg as yet or whether there is just a short somewhere, but am convinced its the problem.

looks like the vacum in the tank was a red herring, as it stalled again, getting a little lost here as it always seems to be when coming to a junction on a slope, approackinh downwards not upwards, the car has half a tank of fuel so it cant be that and tehn afterwards the idle bounces, sometimes when it happens it can take a few mins to restart, is it possible its the fuel pump (i have already replaced the fuel pump relay) do g60s have a main control relay similar to mk3 golfs which can cause a problem like this ? Its not a huge issue, but I want to get it sorted and am running out of ideas, i would have initially said its perhaps the map, but i ran it all weekend and it was fine. the only other thought is teh blue temp sensor that was knackered on my car, and replaced it with a slightly different part number as the part had been superceded its now rated at 140max rather than 125, but like I said the problem wouldnt be itermittant would it ?
-
Yeah thats what I thought, maybe its pure coincedence, but I think it was putting the fuel pump under a bit of strain as the fuel pump would stop and not start again occasionally, I guess we will see, but drove it over the weekend and havent had a problem at all no stalling or hunting for idle so fingers crossed
-
car sorted looks like the problem was the vacum in the fuel tank, have since loosed cap until I can clean the breather and hunting for idle and stalling has stopped.
-
Thanks Matey, yeah already had a look at the tables, will get another laptop sorted out and take a look, Vince was very helpful running through a few of the DTA tables anyhow.

Got the car on the ramps today (first time I have been able to have a thourouggh look at the underneath, all looks mint) however I couldn't find a lambda sensor anywhere on the exhaust which means the DTA must have been mapped with just the MAP sensor, would it make good sense to get a lambda probe inserted and then remapped, could this also be the problem with the hunting idle and the occasional stalling at junctions, everything else is fine on the car but just need these simple thinsg sorted. any ideas anyone. Also the fuel tank seem sto be creating a vacum so its obviously not able to get any air (hissing noise when cap is opened), does anyone know how to fix this, I tried a search on the forum and it seems some peopel have had this problem and fixed it but couldnt find out how ? Thanks Again
