Noticed quite a difference on my car when running 70% water and 30% methylated spirts, I have it coming on at about 15psi and when it does kick in there seems to be much more torque at about 5000rpm it can be quite scary as you suddenly get more torque steer
-
Now I wonder how much work to either rebore to a 1.6 or move the charger and turbo to a 2.0 litre fsi.
-
Twin charged now thats what Im talking about, shame its only a 1.4 http://www.germancarfans.com/news.cfm/n ... 050829.004

I just wanted to say how impressed I am with bahn brenner, I spent an hour shatting with John Betz the managing director last night through email showing picture of the broken shaft on my lysholm and he is going to supply me the parts to fix it and put the proper bahn brenner drive on it so it doesnt snap again, I know he is selling me stuff, but even so to spend a hour looking at the pics I had sent of my lysholm, to determine whether it would all work is pretty sorted
-
funny thing is took the part to my father in law and he said the break is from sheer torque, not from fatique or poor metal. just a bit concerned as the diameter is the same diameter as a g60 shaft so it should take the power. it only happend after I fitted water injection!!!

Right then I have taken said lysholm apart and all is not lost, the charger is fine (ie hasnt seized, it is the pulley thingy that snapped, much the same as a bottom bolt (see pics) but best of all my father in law is a CNC specialist and should be able to machine me a new piece within the next couple of days, so the car will be back up and running. I will not be selling the car just yet but will in the next 6months as I want a 20v now so once its backup and running if anyone is interested, let me know http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/l1.jpg http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/l2.jpg http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/l3.jpg

Right then I have broken the second charger in 4 months, this time the so called indestructable lysholm, I am now going to sell the car as I have had enough of g60 engines and am going to go down the 20v turbo route. today after fitting a water injection kit I went for a spin and snapped the end pulley of the charger, unlucky me thinks. any how the specs of the car as follows and if anyone want to make me an offer.. 8v right hand drive golf. dubsport g60 conversion rallye front mount intercooler gas flowed big valve jabbbsport head. (less than 5000 miles) gas flowed throttle body gas flowed inlet manifold sns stage 5 ship power engineering stage 3 cam adjustable vernier pulley diesel long ratio gearbox helix clutch sachs cover plate (£400) spax adjustable suspension bbs 16" wheels recaro electric interior full stainless exhaust water injection broken lysholm 1.5k of ICE this car was very quick just blew too chargers and as said above I have had enough of superchargers and want a turbo, I will find out whether the lysholm is reparable.

OOPs sorry that may have been steve at pitstop not sure (same place nearly), but I think you catch my drift, that it was more to do with the chargers rather than the workmanship!!!!! right then off to fit my WI kit.... hooray, (NOw where so I find lots of methanol) ;-)

I do think that although jabba have gone crap with regard to thier porting etc, it may be a little unfair to blame them for all the chargers going bang, both myself and Caios have had chargers fail in the last few months, both rebuilt by gwerks (who are second to none for g60s), but it was not gwerks fault they failed, just mechanical breakdown of a fragile design, after having examined both chargers it became apparent that the scrolls were failing and deteriorating....
-
the sound is not too bad when you are travelling its just antisocial around town etc, where the noise can bounce off the walls etc, on the motorway you hardly notice it.. as for the power, it seems like a much better option than a g60, I am currently running an 18psi pulley, and am still not sure whether I should go to the 22psi as it is plenty fast enough, I used t6o runa g60 which puched 15psi and also in comparison to my friends r1 (which just blew up) the lysholm seem much more powerful. I didnt go down the bahn brenner route, but bought a lysholm from someone in this country ( a one off) and it uses standard pulley like g60s rather than the worm drive on bahn brenner.
-
oops sorry Cai you were still, logged in on my machine, Thats better

I think they are veru good jsut very expensive, I am sure you can find cheaper, I guess C&R ship them out to somewhere to get them done anyway, try power engineering...

get a lysholm, seriously these things are really worth the money, I have just finished getting my lysholm 2087 charger (same as BBM) working on my g60 and will never go back to glader, these chargers are phenominal, I used to haev a glader that pushed a solid 15psi and switched to a custom installation of a lysholm (thanks father in Law) running an 18psi pulley, although I only see 15 on the gauge, (guess the FMIC eats a few psi) and the power difference is massive. A few considerations though. 1. these chargers have internal compression which means they are much better than eatons or roots or centrifugal (I personally would not consider any these chargers as they lack top end power or bottom end grunt depending on which you buy and are not as efficent as the gLader, so you may end up dissapointed), but the charger and teh exhust air that comes out of them is hot, very hot, so you will need a very good intercooler. I am also considering aquamist as well as my rallye intercooler 2. these chargers are not indestructable, although they will hopefully last much longer than a glader they are still prone to metal weaknesses and because they get hot (think bicycle pump) they expand and contract with heat. I guess some may not have the correct tolerances and might fail. 3. they are loud, and the noise is fantastic at full throttle, sounds like a jet, but becuase the noise is a noise not typically associated with a car it will turn a few heads, and may annoy ;-) have a read of some of the vortex forums.... other than that get one as Like I said before these chargers are fantastic.
-
I think you loose a couple of psi with a front mount IC, not sure on this but if you scour the vortex forums this seems to be what they are saying.
-
I am the one selling the minging pulleys , but like you said they will work ok :)
-
yes please
-
dont want to worry you but my charger was makinga horrid knocking noise prior to me opening it up, to find a very cracked scroll, if I were you I would open it up, or if you aren't confident with things like that take it to Gwerks for an inspection, I'm sure that wont cost much.
-
looks quality to me, might get one myself !!
-
if the cat is screwed and not letting the exhaust gas escape then you will have a loss of power, get it sorted...
-
yeah big valve head on a g60 makes an awesome difference, have a jabbasport big valve on mine and my mate has one on his g40, huge difference in power, especcially when you get the accompaning cam. (just nothing to wild on a g60)
-
phone TSR and ask them I am sure when I enquired with them they said the 8v heads were all the same, worth giving them a ring always been helpful when I have spoken to them
-
sorted, will be needing to talk tio you v soon...

you have the 42mm as the 50mm flare out slightly to increase to teh 50mm diameter
