fitting a non adjustable steering column (how-to)
Jim Bowen replied to davidwort's topic in Drivetrain
I've bought all the bits from Pat McCrotch's thread for this, i can't seem to tally up the part numbers with those on first page, and think i'm missing a few bits still. Think the best way for me to carry on is just remove my column and start it -
Bet they don't smash his windows though :(

scary :! must be really strange to drive if the bearings aren't doing anything. -

alot of people don't recommend the non genuine VW top mounts, heard the bearing can wear out quickly. I don't want to tell you the wrong thing and you buy aload of bits, as i had lots of bother doing my suspension, all to do with the top mounts, thats why i ended up buying all the types of plate and all the mounts and then springs to suit each setup. The real confusing thing for me was i couldn't get a true -40mm drop, it was more like -90mm on the front. I ended up running it for a year or so with the suspension like that, then decided to get coilovers so i could alter the height. i have a set of late top mounts and bearings that i've taken off my car recently. They spin freely etc and not much wrong with them, but i already have new ones anyway. If you wanted to try my 2nd hand bits, i would be happy to post them if you pay the postage. I don't want anything for the parts as you may only want them to trial fit etc -

Looks like you have a late spring plate and early top mount. ---------- Post added at 3:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 3:04 PM ---------- Can just about see them here This pic is early plates and mounts, and late plates and mounts (separate Bearing) Although i remember the early ones being a large diameter than the lates, you may be better off getting late top mounts Late plate on a spring with small diameter top coil Early Late -
i've still not found the link to the for sale ad

its times like this its better to be an arsehole i find, i would admit defeat, pay yourself, then get some kind of revenge. its just the sort of person i am. Bloke knocked my wingmirror off once at a petrol station while i was inside, i got the cctv footage, waited months until i saw the car again then followed it home, then asked someone to smash his windows. I know i sound like an utter arsehole, but cba with all that police hassle and it ending up with me out of pocket anyway.

Well think this was one of the main causes of my "dodgy steering" These were brand new from VW about 4yrs ago, probaby done about 40,000miles. Found there was no grease used when it was fitted and the rubber boot was all loose, the pipe linking the boots was missing altogether. Could barely move it by hand, and only in one direction normal one

Is it just one door? Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk

I would look at the h&r springs, seen a few on here and the car sits well. I only got coilovers as the other springs I tried were too low. Meant to be -40mm springs. Think its to do with the age of car and top mount design. Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk

starting to think i shouldn't of smashed mine out with a hammer

I went to VW yesterday to order some front ones, came to £132 for the front pair of sensors (no wire) Didn't order them, i will use patent parts, am sure i've seen those near £16 each. Am sure its only a magnet with some wires on it

I must of missed the advert link

Is there a spec for it anywhere? CBA to look through 81 pages of thread

Being honest here, because thats the type of guy i am. I think the corrado looks horrible like that, Corrado has aged well since the mid 90's, but the mid 90's bodykits didn't. Sorry.

ordered that one, for the money, thought i'd give it a try, cheers

Can anyone shed any light on the below part(s) Part number: AKL 38103550 Description: intermediate (zinc) bag contains 50 pieces £13.14 +vat They show up on the front wing fitting diagrams on vatcat, just been to VW to get the price. I don't remember taking these off? Are they the gold coloured clips that the wing bolts fix into to? (all along top edge of wing)

i've got about 3, but think they are all for a late car, certainly look the same as whats in my 1995 corrado
-
am sure they are listed on gsf website
